    It could be argued that Christianity did the same.......... So lets look at the christian majority countries and islamic countries and see which ones have the highest literacy rates; In christian countries we teach our kids to read write maths sciences etc In islamic countries they teach thier kids to rock back and fore quoting the quran parrot fashion...and they wonder why they cant get anywhere in the world But the fact is, Christianity caused a massive regression in progress..................... known as the Dark Ages!
