any more ideas on what makes a good dog man?
-
i tell no one i hunt. Never on an application form as my interests or never tell work colleagues in my current career. Ferreting is the easiest permission to get for me not always with the lurcher at first but usually can get her but if not i love my netting. I am off in the morning looking forward to it first time for my two kits just a wee shallow burrow or too.

my ferrets love it i gave them in the rib bones and they cleaned it. A friend of mine shoots the odd one and i get it if its not good enough to eat.

i would more than happy with two in one day.

A good dog man ensures that his dogs get the best pen's and kennels he can provide and the should be cleaned routinely. He will feed his dogs the best diet he can manage and ensure the recieve all the jab's they need and routine treatment of parasites. A good dog man does not regard his dogs as a tool or a hobby but a way of life you get out what you put in. A good dog man will be honest with himself and others about every aspect of his dogs. He will be open to criticism and new ideas. A good dog man will never let money corrupt his plans or sell out. He will give his dogs the best chance to s

varies a great deal. Some stand at twelve days some sixteen. Often the clear discharge can be mistake for the bleed which gives the wrong day count. could have missed her too.

my working lurchers have always been fed last thing at night unless there is frost a full moon or fog. Been that way since I had my first one. They go to lamp empty and and i restrict their intake of water when they are out too. I also give them a good half hour to relax before i feed them when I come home. On a side note any of you have friends whose wives seem to take the notion to feed the dogs early even though you said you were going lamping. My friends wife done this regularily and he done his nut. I would have took the air rifle out just to spite the bitch. I have never seen the mode e

it is good to see so many dog men that are concerned about a dog not even theirs. Unfortunately some of my hunting acquaintances past and present are terrible to their dogs. I have become immune to it and now I dont even give it consideration or it will drive you mad. My dogs are the only dogs that I have control of and so long as they are worked and rewarded for it with proper care that is all I can do. A good friend of mine gave a service of his dog to a fella I played a part in setting it up the pup's met a bad end and it drove him mad he said never again. Just have to accept that you h

that is what myself and most who seen her thought. He did try to line a greyhound bitch with an airedale dog and he ruptured the bitch inside reckoned the airedale had a cock like horse bitch died too. Stick to the wheatens I reckon.

at the end of the day if you look at the varied history of the lurcher opinions differ on many things one current theme prevails to boldly go where you are not allowed with your type of dog that many centuries ago would have had you hanged now just persecuted by animal rights terrorists. Why only last year i seen two grown men at a bowing day sale purchasing sling shots with grand ideas of a real tree sponsored excursion over a wall into a wood full of tasty things with wings. At the end of the day mischief is in my dna.

they developed there own breed the Bull Arab did they not. By the way seen the title of this thread and thought of f**k here we go some nut is on the vodka and using the net

i was just up with the fella that owned the bitch and two of my mates had pup's but they decided they were going to be a bit heavy and not fast enough for what they needed but they were lively pup's.

No Sniper his name is Scud Is that the dog that covered an Airedale bitch last year?

my sense of direction is f*****g terrible in the dark thats all i am saying. But some how i usually manage to avoid the few fields nearest the farm house.

name her after a good bitch from your hunting past may bring good luck. I have a bitch here named after the first lurcher i lamped with she was old but still done the business the theory seems to working so far as my bitch is starting well.

Muntjac and roe in northern ireland not many now but they are there and will spread. I heard they hitched a lift on the sea cat.

get someone to go in his shop and spill liquid on the floor then you head in go flat for the spill and do a good fall lie there and ask for an ambulance. If he thinks he will get much of you it will be very little compared to what you get.

from what i have seen the wheaten terrier has good qualities to offer to a lurcher cross. Mostly lack of concern with sharp teeth in light or dark. I would say this it is vital for the half cross to have as much height and length that the greyhound bitch is a brute really 29 tts and the dog is big too to produce half bred's around the twenty five mark at least. The half cross is often not that fast but seldom let go when they catch and are ideal around a dig. I have found alot of three quarter's throw smooth and loose more head than bull cross. I think in the times we live the rough coat is

your dogs are always mint as far as i have seen sure your wee bitch has won a pile of shows one under a good friend of mine plus i was asking you about using your whippet on my lurcher bitch as he is a belter. If I was you I would not grant access to any animal rights org unless they have authority. Next make a list of everyone you know that you have beaten at the shows and after that any hunting people then family neighbours and ex girl friends. By the sound of it it is someone close to you as they are watching your house but have not been in it and know your movements. I dont know the exact

last year i was renting a house and i got a visit from the dog warden. My neighbour had seen rabbits hung up in the yard from her upstair's window to be honest something i had never thought of. Anyway she reported me for neglecting the dogs. The dog warden came out from the council took one look at the dogs them pens land stated there was no case to answer and he would not even record it lucky for me he is from a hunting family and sensible about his job. I will settle the score with the woman that made the complaint sometime some way.

Why do so many lurchers get swopped about?
Skinny replied to stroller's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
in one word 'patience'. Lack of patience in waiting for the right dog and lack of patience waiting for a pup to mature lack of patience waiting for the dog to mature lack of patience when training the dog and entering the dog especially to tougher quarry. Now that said I have fell down in all of the above but when i bought my first pup's both six weeks out of workin parents that i had seen work or knew for sure they were good old I reared them up put in the time and they made both decent dogs by most standards. I have reared another two since then one stil a work in progress but is making good -
surely the best way to avoid the attention of dog thieves is to never sell pup's never advertise and never match dogs for money. All the security measures in the world will only keep an honest man out. I reckon that as much dogs and general theft is carried out by regular people as is by travellers and more often than not the person stealing knows the victim. I am very sorry for anyone that gets their dogs stolen and I am not defending the reputation of travellers but most I know of are living a comfortable life from state benefits and compensation scam's. It is ironic that the irish traveller
