  1. a lurcher is a hunting companion to me. If my dog catches a rabbit or a hare then i will neck it as quick as i can as its for the table. If my dog catches a fox which I only run single handed then its up to the dog to dispatch it i will intervene if the dog is in danger of its sight or a foot being damaged or it is not killing the fox cleanly. If a dog can not kill a fox really quickly on its own then i would not use the dog for foxes again. A lurcher should not be dependent on his master being there to kill a fox as often the case is he catches his fox far away from help As for deer i think
  2. i agree totally with this also it is a fate worse than death for a worker being kept as a pet I would never re home any lurcher I own to a pet home it almost never works out that I would be happy
  3. many thanks for the welcome. I will get a few images of my dogs and ferrets up and the land and waters i hunt and fish on soon.
  4. Oh come on skinny! sure not all dogs can be broken to livestock but some can. this dog never had a chance! it was paraded to the public on this forum, not offered for rehoming and executed before anyone could step in, probably to boost his no nonsense profile! it backfired with the negative comments he was getting, probably from experienced dogmen who may have sorted the problem and he said at one point that he was going to make no more comments on the subject. this thread would have then blown over and died out. then what happens? he decides to bait the thread with another story, ridiculing w
  5. i hope Cesar Milan does not read this topic because he will be shitting his kak's with all the dog whisperer's that reckon they could sort a dog killing sheep when they have never even seen the dog nor do they know the man that owns it except for a few posts on the web. I tried to start a poll on the right action to take in sheep killer's but the admin pulled it cant see why it was not any more controversial than this slanging match.
  6. could you outline a typical day for the pup. Meal times walk times where it sleep and where it is kept. Maybe then a sensible reply could be posted. Dogs differ too. Also what do you do when the pup fouls in the house
  7. a little about me. I keep lurchers ferrets and a terrier. I have a collie bull greyhound cross bitch just a year old an old cross bred bitch semi retired and a nine month old border fell cross bitch and five ferrets three worker and two youngsters i bred this year. I also like a bit of fishing salmon trout and pike mostly but will try anything. Also a big fan of mma and do a wee bit of trainin myself. Thats me I am skinny and i am a chocaholic.
  8. lightforce striker variable power.
  9. in the wheaten grey crosses too many lack height and length of back so i would expect this more so in the whippet cross. Also in my experience good feet are not always a sure thing in wheaten bred dogs similar to bull cross. As said before the Ozzy dog is the best looking i have ever seen on the web but if i remember there is a bit of greyhound in him too did you have a quarry across the pond for the wheaten whippet in mind dan edwards
  10. this reads like an episode of the gilmore girls. Dont judge me i have been unemployed for over a year and its on when i get up.
  11. someone should start a poll on this subject. I think Milo done the right thing and made the hard choice. Anyone who keeps a working lurcher that kills sheep is wrong.
  12. Would like to get one of the white ones and have it mounted. .
  13. most show organisers will tell you the majority of revenue taken at lurcher and terrier shows is from people who do not hunt their dogs. Alot of hunting men i know dont go to shows more than half. They say they dont go because the dogs that they race and show against are not hunted i dont envy anyone who has the courage to judge a show. I go for the burgers and to have a laugh with my friends
  14. if there was a class for lurchers that was aimed at purpose bred show and race lurchers I think it would reflect the changing definition of what a working lurcher is and give the judges the means to place a dog that is not hunted with out a moral dilemma.
  15. over half the dogs s at shows now are never hunted i like both hunting and showing and I simply do not care what other dogs are doing in the show ring i would be more concerned with what attitude of the handler's regarding competition and being a good sport. Twiggy you need to chill out a bit
  16. well its the times we live in short of running working terrier trials what are you going to do John D the most a judge can do is look at a dog and make his choice based on the idea that the dog cold do a days work given the chance.
