  1. Unfortunately you seem to be talking out of your arse. The Guild have never said that you can't charge someone unless you're a master molecatcher and what you gain from the course is a deeper knowledge of your quarry, which in my opinion is never a bad thing. The course is free to take so you lose nothing by doing it. Perhaps you should get your facts right before spouting a load of b******s. rant over
  2. PitMan PM me your e-mail address and I'll sort you out The answers used to be found on the Guild website but apparently were taken down cos other organisations were using them for their own purposes. Contrary to what they say I found the Guild totally unhelpful with the answers. Many can be found in Jeff Nicholls books, some online and some I had help with from a fellow forum member You get a certificate and a car sticker on completing each level and I've actually found the knowledge I gained very useful when talking to customers - it impresses the hell out of them when you start ta
  3. I'm after a small quadbike to help me with molecatching as I'm getting fed up going around on foot. A 250 would suit me fine, nothing fancy or expensive, just something thats mechanically sound. I'm in Shropshire but will travel a reasonable distance for the right machine and can pay cash.
  4. I've been into metal detecting since the 's and detectorists were always advised to search molehills as they could bring historical artefacts up from depth and deposit them in the hills, ready for you to find. In all the years I've been detecting I have always done this and never found a bloody thing. Since being a full-time molecatcher I've sifted through thousands of molehills and again never found a thing. I'm always dreaming that some day I'll pick up a handful of soil from a hill and a gold sovereign will drop out. Is there anyone out there who has found any coins/artefacts/other i
  5. attractive - Tasmin the newsreader from BBC3 60 Second update, Keeley Hawes (serious come to bed eyes), Holly Willoughby. unattractive - I'm too much of a gentleman to single anyone out.
  6. Thanks for the suggestions. The area is already fenced and they've dug under so perhaps electric fencing is the way to go. I'll pass it on.
  7. One of my molecatching clients asked me today if I know how to get rid of badgers. He's a keen bowler and his bowling green has started being visited by brock. I don't know much about badgers and wondered if anyone knows any legal ways of "discouraging" them ?
  8. Theres plenty of moles around here in Shropshire but I've been working several new farms recently where theres a large number of workings which look promising from a distance but when you look closer obviously haven't seen any life for a while. They just look abandoned and theres no new activity nearby. Dead, moved away/deeper ?
  9. I've never come across rats living in mole runs. Judging by the size of some of the ones I see around it would be a tight squeeze. Field voles perhaps ?
  10. It had never happened to me until last week when I had 5 caught by the front limb and one caught by the very tip of its snout, all from the same farm job.
  11. Use a Talpa mole trap if your struggling with the duffus traps, and if you cant catch one in a talpa trap take up fishing instead. Talpas are very easy to set and i always catch with them the only drag is you cant catch two at a time. When people set the barrel traps they dont dig and set them quick enough which lets more oxygen in the tunnel, which the mole senses straight away, be quick and fast and make sure killing knots are in the ground and the tunnel is smooth before covering the trap. I suggest you re-read my original post - I wasn't saying I had difficulty with duffus traps or

  13. I wish I had a camera yesterday to show you a mole trap I lifted which had been comprehensively blocked to say the least. It was totally crammed solid with hard packed earth but yet neither side of the trap had been set off. Considering I tune my traps for maximum effectiveness, it got me wondering how on earth a mole can push and pack so much soil into both sides of a trap without setting it off ?
  14. Some interesting ideas. I do mark all my traps with a hazel stick with red tape on the top but I set a lot of traps and the fields I work in tend to be huge and the workings spread out all over the place. I find that if I don't know roughly where to look, I end up losing traps cos my memory is terrible or the farmer has decided to drive across the field over the markers. If I have a sketch plan then at least I'm in with a fighting chance. Perhaps a laminator and chinagraph pencil is the answer for me.
  15. When catching on farms I have large numbers of traps down and record the rough positions of them all in a notebook sketch. However it gets pretty messy when you've got wet mucky hands and I'm sure there must be a more efficient way. Does anyone else have a different method of keeping tabs on their traps they'd like to share?
  16. I got Black Ops for Christmas and have been having a go every now and then but I'm stuck at a certain part and I'm pulling my hair out. I can't remember the exact location but its in Arctic Russia, theres a SR71 Blackbird providing cover from above and I've just knocked out the comms link in the enemy location in the mountains. I run out onto a metal walkway which gets shot out by someone with a rocket launcher, dropping my oppo down a ravine. Then I'm stuck. I can't jump across the gap to rejoin my team and I can't go back because the walkway is damaged. All I can do is stand there and die i
  17. Yeah I've just read an older thread on this subject and noticed that KG has the monopoly. I phoned them earlier - £6.36 + VAT per trap + £8 postage. Seems a bit steep when I can get a duffus for a shade over £3, and theres a lot more metal in that.
  18. I fancy trying some trapline traps to complement my half barrels but don't want the hassle of importing them from America. I know Killgerm sell them but they seem quite expensive, does anyone know of anywhere else in the UK I can get my hands on a few to try for a reasonable price ?
  19. Second that. Flat pack traps do the biz for me The reason the traps are full of soil is that you haven't been careful enough when setting them. The mole has come along, detected something suspicious and filled the trap. Make sure you don't straighten out any bends (it should be in a straight section of the run to begin with), you haven't pushed any soil up either side of the tunnels and that the floor of the tunnel is nice and smooth. Good luck with the rest.
  20. I was thinking along the same lines recently and came to the conclusion that it isn't women per se who are the problem - its marriage. What the f**k is in it for men really ? Theres something strange that happens once the ring hits that finger, unless you picked the right one to begin with, which brings me back to the original problem that its much harder to get rid of her and start again once the man with the one day week has done his bit.
  21. I'd stick my tail in her gob just to shut her up !
