  1. To be fair i dont know anybody who would suggest a collie grey doen't have wind, they are known for stamina.... I know that mate but have read on here many a time a few silly coments to that nature, from the great unwashed
  2. I am a very keen runner Myself, My lad always runs with me. I know my main run and how far it is. I do 8 miles 3 times a week. My lad is off lead running about here there and everywhere, and easy does double what I do. The only time he runs at heel is if we see another dog coming other than that he is off doing his thing and notching up the miles. Wouldnt be surprised if he dont get close to 20 miles some days. Sad thing is I get back to the van well and truely knackered, most the time the lurcher is hardly panting. Who said Collie x greys have no wind
  3. I had a bull Terrier, that I had mated 3 or 4 times but always missed. I ran a course of antibiotics over her season and she took. Vetdid a blood sample and it turned out she always ran an infection over her season. As Skycat has said different bitches take on different days as well
  4. Cheers mate he is a strong bugger, and is on the taller side of the cross at 27tts
  5. some cracking dogs lads, and to the original question I dont think you will go far wrong with a collie x greyhound This is My lad Hancock bred 3/8 x 5/8 Been easy to train very quick to learn and does everything I ask of him at 7 months old and at 12 months old with his first catch cheers Thorny
  6. I bred Bullys for years and would say I know the breed very well, take it from me mate he will do this again, They are a fantastic looking dog, but everynow and then a dodge pot will turn up. If it where me mate he would be on the way to the vets. Personally I think its an easy option to give him away and pass the problem on. Ask Yourself this how would you feel if in a week, month or year how would you react to finding out he has got lose and torn some young child a new look or even worse.
  7. For Me these dogs are Colliecurs so why would you add anything else? Surely be good to breed them back to one another, or 3/4 crosses or maybe half crosses. I am sure many on here will not agree but there isnt a lot a game collie cross cant do,especially some of the raceier type. I would say with tha added brain power perhaps there is a bit they can do that other`s dont
  8. That's a great looking dog that mate credit to you looks a strong dog Atb with it JD Thanks mate, he is a strong steady dog, and shy`s away from nothing.I bought him from Hancock as this is my first lurcher, and I didnt know any better. We paid £200 for him last year, I dont think thats a lot of money. He is a joy to be around and is a fantastic family dog as well as begining to grow into a good mooching dog. He suits me and what I like doing perfect.
  9. My lad is also out of Tweedle Dum, I would say if anything this dog has to much pace for his own good at the moment until he learns to use his gears. He tends to over shoot but is getting better as his first season has gone on. Just over 27tts. Fantastic nose on him and finds plenty of stuff that is hiding up. Can ba little headstrong so I have to keep on top of him at times, but again I hope this will improve as the seasons go by. Very easy to train. I get asked by My local shoot to bring him along beating as he works like a trojan all day, and has kept many a gun busy.
  10. For me the hip to front shoulder measuments still look out of keel the first photo clearly shows the terrier type inward facing legs with paws turned outwards. ATB Cookie not knocking the dogs just highlighting why I would choose the rough unless you need a more bushing based lurcher over lamping pure speed turn abilty. ATB Cookie I think You mean weak in the passterns mate, and it is near impossible to critique a dog from a picture, You could argue she also looks upright in stiffle, but I would say its more the way she is standing in the picture. I would say it would be impossible
  11. Strong looking dog Cheers mate, there aint alot he cant bowl over
  12. For me it will be this picture my lads first catch at just shy of his first birthday
  13. Some lovely dogs there chaps and those bull crosses just look ripped, they seem to carry muscle tone better than anything else Here is My lad collie x greyhound cheers
  14. used to fish at Springhills down on the kent/sussex border many moons ago. Its a complex of trout and course fishing. There was a lake there that was a trout lake but had a good head of carp in it. The guy would encourage people to take them off the surface with a deer hair fly. Once caught it was a mad rush to transfer to the course lake 30 yards away. I got a taste for carp on the fly then. In the summer months I go out loaded with dog biscuits and pop up maggots and fish the dykes that run along side the river thames out on the kent marsh, and catch wild carp for fun normal wieght approx 4l
  15. Cheers mate and thanks for the advise, she is a bit of a slow maturer and her teeth have only just finished. I even had to pull one of Her milk P4`s out as it had rotted with no adult tooth coming threw to take its place, all sorted now and she has a lovely set of gnashers, that rats had better run from. Friend of mine owns a livery yard could be just the place to start her, will get her down there next weekend.
  16. I have a young Jack russell bitch fast approaching seven months. I plan to use her for flushing cover to lurcher and she is getting more confident with this all the time. She was breed from a guy who used both parents for mainly ratting. She has a real bit of fire in her belly and may make a descent little ratter, so just wondered at what age should I give her ago. Dont want to rush in and her get biten and put her off. Would I be best just going about it myself, or finding someone who would let me go out with them and there dogs for an afternoon, as this will be the first time I will of also
  17. Father in-law has a springer that was bred by my cousin up in scotland, so has its tail. Poor bloody thing smash`s it to bits, and I have never seen it with out tape on it. Perhaps all the do good busy bodies that forced this ban due to cruelty should go and see an undocked dog out in the field, they may just have a rethink
  18. got any up to date pics mate, i am a fan of the sire of this litter
  19. snowing here like crazy so maybe a mooch in the snow for me tomorrow
  20. Honest post there mate, I am the same. I mainly do daytime mooching with jack russell and lurcher, sometimes we can catch two or three in a mooch then we may go a week or so with nothing. At the moment there is plenty of game birds about, we have had a couple but my lad just cant perfect his diving on pheasents techneac just yet but the more he see`s the better he should get. The plan is to bring a bitch in to join him for next year. Then I can have a dog either side of hedge rows and jack doing her thing.
  21. I walk the land I work always during daylight hours, just to give me a feel for a place and as everyone has said, fallen trees, barbed wire, cattle troffs ect ect. A month or so ago out on some open waste land I work, I managed to fall over into the only blackthorn bush, god knows how even the dog looked at me as if to say "you pratt". It hurt like hell when i flicked the lamp on to have a look at myself one of my legs looked like I had a hedgehog under my jeans with all its spikes sticking threw my jeans, my hands where also full of thorns. Called it a night within a few hours my leg had blown
