Sorry mate I get what you mean, what I ment was a dog in good condition, dont want to turn up to some flea riden critter.Although having said that it is nicer to have a nice looking dog about the place rather than something that looks like chunk from the goonies, but as You say as long as its job who cares. What have you got then Ruby2013?

Just wondered if any lads on here have a descent little bushing terrier to line my Russell to this spring. Only breeding to keep a pup to help her mum out with flushing to lurchers and guns whilst beating. My bitch is only small 12"tts and easily spanable. so dont want a monster to line her. Looking for a spanable smart looking dog of around 14" tts in the hope anything I keep will be a little more up in leg than mother. Plummer, russell ect ect just a good honest worker that dont disapear down holes every five minutes as that wont suit the sort of work we do. Cheers

What sort of age do you lads take a litter from a bitch. I plan to take a litter from my russell this spring as I would like to keep something for myself. She is 2 years old. Does everything I want from her day in day.

where abouts in the Garden of England do you hail from Stabs?

Thats all I did with My little bitch when she was a pup, just let her do her own thing. For many a time to start with she would just follow the others, as she got older and started getting to know the scents of things she would get her nose down, then you have cracked it mate. Just remember a pup is a pup so needs to be one make things a game and dont knacker it out. Thorny

Any chance of any information on the Jack in Kent, I plan to breed from my bitch at some point. Size, what work it does, ruff or smooth coat and where abouts in kent -
Nice one mate, same as you, any joy we have had is in thick cover on higher ground

From looking at a long range forecast January looks wet and warm so no change. I am gutted I worked so hard to gain a farmers trust and get permission to ferret his land, I would say nearly all his land is on the Estuary so just water logged. Having said that we did manage one, pushed out from very deep and thick cover today. To be honest bushing with Jack russell to Lurcher is by far my favourite pass time, took a while to get them to work in tune with one another but just about there now and a pleasure to watch.

I work mainly marsh lands and surrounding farms as You can imagine its very hard work at the moment. Not worth even taking ferrets out of their hutch, Lamping is a complete waste of time due to the amount of standing water and water logged ground any rabbits can here Me skwelching through the mud a hundred miles away. The only joy I have had is working cover although there is still not alot about. We have had one bunny in the last half a dozen outings flushed from some thick brambles. My poor little Jacks ears are torn to bits but still she keeps grafting.
-
Good luck tonight mate, dont do much lamping as I just couldnt get the permission for it, do mainly daytime mooching and ferreting. If ever you fancy a walk out in the daytime give me a shout, more often than not my terrier will push something out to get after

Not a million miles away from me then, Medway

Been alot of that of late Delboy, only a few weeks back it was on Meridian news of a large number of sheep killed in a field by a couple of dogs. They managed to catch one of the hounds, said to say it was a lurcher!! looked very bullxgrey. With idiots about it just knackers things for descent folk. I lost a massive permission this spring due to idiots out lamping a field with ewe`s and lambs in. Farmer lost a few lambs from just being chased about. I only had permission for ferrets, but that was to much and said no dogs on his land. Gutted!!!!!!!

where abouts in Kent are you mate its a fare sized county, good luck trying to get some lamping permission up my end its near impossible to many dickheads have ruined it.

Thanks for the input, and that rifle does look fantastic. As this is going to be My frist attempt at getting out with an air rifle I wasnt looking to spend that much and would be happier with a second hand gun, That if I get into it I can then upgrade from. Just wondered what else anyone would recommend and uses thereself Cheers Thorny -
The wife is stuck for a birthday present for Me. I have suggested an air rifle as a few of my mates get out and about with them and I have been invited along a few times. My local gun shop stocks a good selection of second hand rifles with scopes from £150 upwards. Done want to go mad budget wise so just looking for an honest gun I can use with confidence for rabbits, wood pigeon and the odd game bird should it cross My path. So what should I be looking out for? any advise welcome Cheers lads Thorny

Looks a fine bitch and I am sure she will serve you well, is she out of tweedle dum? I have a dog here out of him cant fault him. Wouldnt pay much attention to the jump on the band wagon knockers.Very few actualy have any experience of his dogs. If you Put the graft in now,she will graft all her life for you.

I have a 5/8x3/8 collie grey mix of both border and beardie. He is the first lurcher I have had. Doddle to train and puts many a dog to shame whilst out and about. Steady as a rock and bomb proof. Hunts up during day and will flush and catch his own game, but still always under control. He is a big lad though at 28tts. In my experience I dont think I could of gone for a better first time dog. Cheers Thorny

I do plan to take a litter from here in time and it is encouraging to see so many nice working dogs being posted.

A cracking pair of yapers there Terry, and Moses looks a tough as they come. Here is another of mine doing one of her favourite things she mooches about down on the river at low tide looking for crabs, she finds the odd one now and then, that is quickley dispatched by crunching it up and swallowing it

Shame things never worked out with Tod, especially as so much work goes into a young dog. I had a full bull terrier years ago that would black out after he was let off the lead if he did a big burst silly 5 minute run about. He spent most of his life on a lead and died aged 5. Good luck with the new pup, it will be interesting to see how he developes Justin
