Mines the red dog, I use her for ferreting, do this in the summer to keep her fit. http://youtu.be/pWQuuw9qz-c

You cant beat a whippet for rabbiting mate, its what they were bred for, Acceleration, speed, agility, and prey drive like you wouldn't believe. They wouldn't match the straight line speed of a big lurcher but they make up for it in the turn.
-
My two.
-
Never heard that expression before, but yea that just about sums him up,
-
My whip lure coursing red dog.
-
I work mine to rabbit only, lure course them in the summer to keep them fit.
-
My rabbiters apart from the welsh who will not work for love or money. My young Patt for this season 5 months old, and my two whips from coursing lines.
-
What sort of work am I looking out for, I go to most shows and lurcher meets down midlands way.
-
One of mine got out for a couple of hours the other week, and three to four days later was covered in about 50-60 ticks tried picking them off with a twister but there was just to many, went down pets at home and brought Frontline for small cats, two drops on the back of the neck for all four of the them, all dead now just had to get the dead brown tick bodys off her, £15 at pets at home you could probably get it cheaper online.

Patterdale Terriers Do They Make Good Bushing Dogs
bryanm45 replied to suzy007's topic in Bushing Dogs
Hope they can bush but if he can't he will have to get used to it, he's only 15 weeks old so far so will let you know in the future. -
In the archives Sooty Sam sired some 140 registered whippets whereas from the same owner his great grandson Strike while the irons hot 470 registered whippets.
-
Here's my frail wee 18" break at the drop of a hat not for you whippet, each to there own eh.
-
There must be hundreds of people who seen his dogs work as so many people used SS over there bitches you would of hoped there'd seen this dog work to use him, or was it Chinese whispers, and the emperor's new clothes, or clever marketing on MB part.
-
Sooty Sam is out of Laguna lines regardless of what people think, and I don't think he was oversize just 21"tts which is just acceptable for a whippet, the introduction/ breeding of bigger whips was after, even the show whippets now are big, one of my bitches has SS in her lines way back but thankfully this will be Laguna blood and nothing else, my two bitches are the correct size 18"tts and do exactly what's expected of them, they are rabbiting dogs in the season, and I race and course them through the summer.

after she passed i fetched another one from another well known line and he was the worst dog in the field you could ever imagine, he could run and chase a bag but was useless in all other respects when it came to being in the fieldYou get good and bad whippets in all lines, some have it some dont, was he a good Laguna dog, now there's good and bad Lagunas.he wasn't laguna, neither are mb`s whippets laguna is a kennel club prefix that belongs to some else He was Laguna linehttp://thewhippetarchives.net/details.php?id=8859 the dog i brought wasnt laguna prefix belonged to Lilah Bond gunni

Don't read me wrong, I love whippets and have two of my own, But the direction they are going is wrong, just to big, whippets are small game dogs, rats and rabbits, you will get people say they take other stuff and TBH they probably do, but right tool for the right job, bigger whippets are moving away from what they are bred for small fast agile rabbit dogs.
-
But more like whip x greys without there speed

its not just the height it's the build so much stronger than most whippets you can tell a mb whippet straight away when you see one and the work in these dogs is awesome they give everything they have every runIf I wanted a bigger whippet I would cross it with something to compliment the whippets acceleration, speed and prey drive, but I won't a small quick rabbiting dog, as that's all they are at the end of the day.

What would be the difference between a working whippet and one of his dogs apart from about 3 inches in height.
-
That's right there was a height limit for coursing , but MB's dogs were for work, I've seen modern MB dogs and they are very big, probably too big to be a whippet, now starting to breed a separate line of big whippets, did anyone ever see sooty Sam work, was he that good or was it just clever marketing.

Do you think this is for real. http://youtu.be/bROPwoTXtT4
