  1. I had a walk around my inlaws farm today with my .22 and the 8 month old lurcher. Walked u up to the top of the land and saw 4 rabbits, 2 full grown and 2 part grown, all of which vanished as soon as i got my gun up over the wall. dam things!!! The lurcher obviosly new they were there, pulling on the leed.. I carried on walking round, and saw a part grown bunny sitting on a hill by its own. Too close to a wood to give the dog a run so popped it off with the rifle.. Slipped the dog and to my delight, she retrieved her 1st bunny to my feet.. After a bit of sniffing!! wel happy. All my practice
  2. i would say shes about done ggrowing mate I think you're prob right, most of her knuckle has gone now!! Do you think she will be ok for a odd run or 2,? Her pray drive is through the roof, always looking for something to chase down fields!!!cheers

  4. Lovely looking dog. cheers pal, she'll do for me...
  5. I've got a whippet x beddy/grey collie, she's 7months, 18 and half inch and showing a keen interest, thrown more to the whippet, fine coat etc but she's not too bothered by cold or rain.
  6. I hope my pup does as well on her 1st run, she just coming up 7mths now.. Good on ya and the dog of course... How old is she, just out of curiosity if tha doesn't mind. Cheers
  7. Thanks for replies, Prob worrying about nothing. I'll keep practicing wi dummy and hopefully she wil be ok next season. Plenty of time to practice yet.. Cheers
  8. I've got the Deben Tracer Max mounted on my Rifle scope, recently i got the handle attachment. It's very light. Shame i can't say the same for the standard battery, weighs a ton. I'll be purchasing a lithium one when the price drops a bit!! Too expensive for me at moment..
  9. Cheers guys. I hope she learns in time. But maybe the real thing wil sharpen her up to over running the prey... Been out on a walk this morning and she was marking a rabbit hole for the 1st time that i've seen, must have been something at home because my russells were marking too. Happy with her.
  10. Now then folks, Out with the pup tonight practicing with the lamp and rabbit skin dummy, she runs out well and always retrieves but almost always she runs past the dummy a few feet due to too much speed then turns round and picks it up for the retrieve. Is this common with a young dog? Will she learn with time or the real thing next season? Any advice welcome as it's my 1st lurcher. She's almost 6 months Cheers
  11. Having always had pups i can't speak about getting a full grown dog, but i do understand the rewards of watching/training a young dog. You know you've done the best you can that way..
  12. I understand that there are too many dogs being born into this world hence us looking for a rescue as our 1st option. I told the lady that we had no intention of breeding our JRT bitch, the only reason she hadn't been spayed was because we got our Male JRT castrated instead.. I can understand her reason to some degree as i'm sure they get rescue's by the dozen. But even so i can't help feeling this may be 1 of the reasons people like ourselves go out and get a puppy. If someone had a large pack of dogs it would cost a fortune to adopt with all the vets bills from castrations and spaying. Maybe
  13. We tried to go down the adoption line, with little success. We couldn't rescue because our Jack russell bitch had not been spayed, even though we were after a bitch anyhow??? O and the particular dog we wanted liked cats and because we didn't have any it was being reserved for a home that did..WTF. Totally baffled us, so sacked if off and got our pup.. Was like they didn't want to rehome em..
  14. I had a inspection when i moved a house 12 months ago and asked the woman about a open ticket, she didn't think there would be a problem so i just wrote a letter to local firearms lot. Gave me open ticket without any bother. Had my licence for 3yrs at that point.. Send a letter..... Whats the worst that can happen!!? Good luck
  15. I'm fortunate enough to have a Farmer for my father-in-law, so having sheep, cows and hens to practice stock breaking on isn't a problem with lurcher pup. I have always found that a stern voice when the dogs showing a bit too much interest works’s a treat. I think plenty of contact is the key in the first few months. Even so my JRT has had a couple of chasing do's when she was younger, a good roasting and a clout, she good as gold now... A public footpath prob the easiest option for you i guess, would keep on lead at 1st, so too much interest can be corrected... BEST OF LUCK
  16. Hi All's i do is load photo up in paint or Adobe photoshop and resize and save, making sure it's under the 200K size limit, then just attach using the section at the bottom of your "REPLY" page. Sure there are different ways, but thats how i do it. Good luck
  17. Dogs were following few rabbit tracks, but tonnes of snow everywhere. Good day tho.. We've hardly any snow compared to the Dales..
  18. She should be 22-23 inch TTS, But who knows.. Dam was Bedlington x Collie Greyhound, Sire was a Whippet. She's coming on well with retrieve and other commands, hopefully she'll do the business next season.....
  19. Was a quality day yeah cheers. Pup growing fast 18" TTS now at 5 months.
  20. Was the mrs's birthday so we had a walk at Malham in the dales, just a few pics for you to have a butchers at..
  21. Thanks for the replies folks, think i'll just salt it for a while, scrape and fill it full of straw or wrap it round dummy for the pup to practice on. Sounds like it could take forever to cure a hide properly..... Cheers
