  2. Thanks again folks for comments.. Neilsherlock, The pup is a Saluki/Grey over a Bull/grey. Got her off a decent fella and out of well proven dogs,so hopefully do me proud next season... Can be a strong willed sod at times.

  8. Nice dog fitchet, how's it bred? How old was it when you took it ratting? The pup deffo showing potential for the future, but don't want to rush her... Rather take it slow and get it right 1st time. She's a totally different thing compared to the whippet cross's prey drive at this age.... The rabbits I get are used as dog food so not too fussed if they fetched back dead..
  9. Bloody good fun is ratting and watching the dogs work. My whippet cross was introduced to rats after rabbits J.DOG, but My pup already seems hard mouthed on anything it can get in its teeth on. Gave it a fox tail to rag on the other week and it destroyed it in seconds. Its seen a couple of other dead things and clamped on like a vice.but Don't want to put it off wi getting a good bite off a rat. She 5 amd half month. What u reckon?. Cheers
  10. Afternoon,, Do any of you folk take their lurchers ratting? I always take my whippet cross along with the terriers and she does a cracking job. What are you're thoughts on taking a pup? Age etc?. Will it give any benefits or cause problems for the future? Cheers
  11. It did take time with my bitch pal, even though I did find it frustrating at times it all came together in the end. I found using a really tasty treat like dried sausage or something that pup likes more than toy. In my experience when they start messing any playing about with dummy or whatever its time to pack up for the day. That's why a narrow place is good because pup has to run to you to try get where they want to go... If u get me. Good luck. It will click I'm sure. How olds the pup pal?

  13. Oreyt fella. That pup of mine is 1st cross bullgrey x salgrey, both parents were well proven dogs and the fella bred them as allrounders to keep a couple back. Out of 10 pups, about half were quite bully solid dogs and other half were more racey. I aint seen any on here that other folks have. Would be good to see and hear their thoughts on the cross.. Atb
  14. Cheers mate. She's a complete different dog to my beddy whippet. Her prey drive is huge already, compared to what my other was like at 5 month's anyhow... Atb
  15. Morning, all I do is throw a rabbit skin dummy down a narrow hallway or down side of house. And when they bring back to me they get a treat. If they don't bring back no treat. Keep sessions short at first or I found that they'll get bord and start messing about. Once they know what they are supposed to do. I move into the field. And carry on there. Good luck.
  16. Oreyt folks, had a good walk out with the dogs this morning and thought i'd share a few pics of my pup, slightly shit quality photos i must admit. she just gone 5 months. Coming on ok, and showing good potential. Not too sure what size she's going to make. About 19tts at moment. mum was 22 and dad was 26tts. What are youre thoughts. Cheers
  17. I've got a 1/2 whippet 1/4 beddy with a dash of collie and grey, 19.5tts. And she was a pain in the arse when young, but as she got older,-towards 18months, she became much better in the head strong department. Walking to heel and a great companion when out shooting, retrieving feather as well as fur..
  18. Bit of a waiting game before you know fella.... My Saluki grey x bull grey is same age as your's and she only about 18.5" at moment. As long as they do the job eh.... Atb
