Dispatching deer using a knife through the Atlas joint
muddy210 replied to bullmastiff's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
during my dsc1 course 10 years ago i was told the only lawful way of using a knife on a deer was to cut the throat and the best way of doing this as described was to use a knife similar to a filliting knife and to cut the main arteries in the neck by first passing the knife through the neck of the deer then out through the front. not the most humane way of dealing with a moving beast by any stretch of the imagination. since this time i have been called to many rta incidents often by the police in built up areas and still find the best method is to take a second shot where praticable with w -

start off on the land you got and get a good name for yourself talk to the owner and have an understanding about his job be seen doing a good job pick up rubish thats floating about if he has chickens and fowl report to him sightings of foxes and such. dont be a bain on them do your job quietly and effectively then after a while ask him if he knows the next door farmer he will and will probaly offer to put the word in. but let the owner get to know you over a good while first all farmers talk to each other in the area thats how permisions grow dont expect it all to come within a month sometime
-
as allways with anything it is allways a case of who you know not what you know i am in a very privilidge position to be able to get the permission i can. i have allways kept my nose clean and kept in touch with the people that i have the access from. and as all will no one bit of access leads to another and so on if you keep yourself a good reputation. my advice to anyone is to start off with the small places the ones most people think of as not worth it the owners will be more than happy if you take out the only 10 rabbits on the land it might not be the best spot but it will lead to other t

HI guys thanks for all the PMs i have replied to them all And i hope that some of us can get some rabbits taken care of. Before i stopped fereting i could often rely on up to ten people to come out but being out of it for so long some of the guys have gone to the big grassy clear from blackthorn hedges in the sky the others have either givenup aswell or moved on. looking forward to the new season muddy PS to narrow it down for people i am in north east lincs grimsby area.

hi all as im only back in the game this year with new kits i dont have access to older ferts to train the youngsters. so having approached all my landowners again they are happy for me to carry on as before. so here is the offer i would like someone with good working ferrets that is willing to come over and work the area with me. for the following season i have plenty of access going into thousands of acres so we wont get bored. but please bear in mind i am looking for people to help train my youngsters as such in that mine will be entered with yours and we may have to dig. i have access to al

hob and jill they have not been biting for weeks now but just started this week i know that more handling will cure this but just wondered why it would happen after 5 weeks in my care with no biting that they would start to nip. its not a problem just getting opinions on what would cause this
-
Two jills have been handled everyday since birth and by me since 8 weeks old up until now they have been fine the odd nip here and there but nothing to much. over the last couple of days they take more pleasure in nipping than any thing else there not biting as such just the usual nipping thati would expect. i just cant understand why its started now after 5 weeks of lots of handling. nothing has changed with what i am doing. clean them in the morning feed them at night and handle them during these times and when ever else the oppurtunity arises at least an hour a day. not causing a problem bu

Also i cant wait for the ferts to be big enough to get out roll on the cold weather

i know what you mean Jamie i used to work a large bury in a private wood that the pet brigade thought was theres to use as wanted the thought of me using the ferrets to chase the litlle fluffy bunnys was extremely cruel several times they thought gassing was quicker and more humane. how i still laugh. muddy
