  1. your correct on the practise, I was using the back of throat "gargling" technique, and thought it was giving a good call, after around 3 hrs, I had figured out how to use the "stomach" air as he demostrates on u tube, and its a totally different call saying that, yesterday was a total waste, hardly a bird in the sky
  2. if you were to get this years kitts, you aint got to worry about breeding until next year, wether you get homes or jills, 2 x jills can live together all year round, but you'd need to either get them jabbed next year, or run them with a snipped hob, 2 x hobs can live together all year round, if you get two brothers as kitts, they will live together, keeping an eye on them next year for to much aggression, and if so, get both castrated, or split them in the summer months, and get one snipped I have 3 intact hobs that live together all year round, no fighting I also have 4 cast
  3. a lot are crap at puncuation too
  4. theres loads of callers out there, all saying they are the best on the market, a guy on pigeon watch has tested a few, with dire results, and I myself have the "achme crow caller" which sounds like a demented donald duck, anyway, after lots of looking and searching u tube, I found a guy called corvussam, a member of pigeon watch, living in belguim and a maker of crow and magpie calls, one of his calls, is called a MID (magpie in distress) and the u tube clip shows in sending magpie's nutts, as Ive recently put together a large owl decoy, with a dead magpie decoy in its grasp, I thought this
  5. my ferret court is made using an old anderson shelter (from the war) and our neighbour was dismantling theirs, so I asked for some panels, and made a hutch to match the ferret court

    messers

well its locked now, it may have been ok to start with, but has quickly turned into a "slagging match" between certain members, if someone with only one post is selling an item, and you dont trust them, a simple way is DONT ASK TO BUY IT, why should anyone send an item to an address for a member, before getting paid, irrelivent of how many posts are made, simple use paypal/e bay, ask the member to put it on a "buy it now post" and then do just that, that way, your covered by e bay, and it'll only cost you a little commission, rather than you expecting it to be sent out before payment, and th
  7. its always a good idea to pair ferrets together, when your going to be in for the day,(to watch and listen) if the jill is correctly in season, you'll know they have mated, as all day the hob should be ragging her, you'll also hear squeals as though he's murdering her, plus the marked back of her neck, if you havent witnessed any of this, Id say she wasent ready the first time, and may need a second visit from him
  8. showing my age here, but if you use something like 3/8" ply on all of it, but use 1/8 ply for the bow back, it will bend easily without the need to cut lines in, or soaking
  9. nice looking hutch, although Id add more woodchip to the floor, and loose the carpet on the ramp, they will climb a wood ramp easy, or use some of your corrigated tubing, a ferret could all too easily catch a claw on the fibres in carpet and rip a claw off,
  10. take end of collar, slip into buckle by about 5mm, hold onto this, place collar over ferrets head, like a lasso, then do up collar, as stated above, if your worried about the ferret biting you, then its not handled enough, if your not worried, whats the problem
  11. have been toying with the idea of reloading, mainly for the 20 gauge, now I gather that unless Im making 1000's then it may not be cost effective, but what the heck anyway, couple of questions as I know nothing what would be the difference in loading a cart for game or sport, as reading price lists, they can both have same amount of powder/shot, yet clay carts are normally cheaper how much powder/shot would be needed to make up a 1000 carts, so I can approximate an £'s amount do they do a book "reloading for dummies" where do you store your powder, thinking the missus may

    Ancestry.com

let us know if you have any joy with it, would like to try it, but at £ joining fee, gave it a miss
  13. yup, also get it with certain "star" shaped dry biscuits, but it shows how much we trust the ferts when we stick fingers in there
  14. open cage door put ferret collar on ferret shut door and walk away come back hour later and remove (if the ferret is no longer wearing it, YOUR doing it up too loose) repeat each day,

    maybe he fancies you
  16. use the "search" function, theres hundreds of cage pictures, if you take the time to look
  17. I dont know how the law stands, but my mate had his motorbike nicked from one of "these" secure parking lots, I'd have thought at the very least you'd need a secure box bolted in the boot,
  18. any type structure/court thats built for the ferts, is better than a cage, just go for it, you can always add/remove bits at a later date, good forward thinking on the drain,
  19. as many as you want to put with him (lucky bugger)
  20. Ive only been decoying around 10 months, and did'nt want to spend a fortune getting all the kit, incase it was'ent my cup of tea, twelve shell deeks from evil bay for around £16, they bring the pigeons down, yes have had a few come down then speed off, but that could also be down to my hide etc, I would'ent worry too much, go out and enjoy it, remember to keep still till the last minute,
  21. I wouldent on a jill that had only days to go, but it sounds like yours have only just been paired up/seperated, so I cant see why not
  22. I too have probs with the carts, not to the same extent as you, but they do need a pull to get out, Im off out tomorrow morning, fingers crossed
  23. , the chattering woke my daughter at 7am, we caught the first one at 11am we have to keep their numbers down, otherwise they tend to start attacking our chickens
  24. beechris kindly phoned me last night, asking if I wanted a magpie he'd just caught in his larsen, which I gladly took as the immatation nest/eggs wer'nt working, I know have three magpies jumping all over the cage trying to get the call bird
