  1. Familiar photo Phil. Seriously it's good to see the old 35mm stuff. How did we manage before the Digital media days?
  2. Totally agree with that point. Nobody stays in the game as long without something to teach & there have been many who excelled in looking the part.
  3. Well done Phil your still showing us younger lad's how its done. That merle is a lovely looking animal by the way mate
  4. The thing is however that whether Hancock was a chicken farmer or a collie, greyhound farmer he started breeding in the 1980s. Here we are in 2018 & his Daughter Sally now runs the business so with decades of breeding so many pups in all manner of equations SURELY THEY WILL HAVE GAINED THE KNOWLEDGE DUE TO PUBLIC FEEDBACK ALONE ON WHAT SEEMS TO BE WORK BEST & FROM WHAT STUD LINE ETC. Personally I have no axe to grind regarding the purchase of a Hancock dog but I believe that they suffered from too much exposure from a certain writer of what was often simply nonsense. M
  5. Ralph was plagued by injuries but has had a successful career at stud being mated to quality bitches such as Mona
  6. Red Sonja is Caufields Joe X a bitch named Susie
  7. Heres Ralph .. Buddy X Red Sonja...
  8. That is as good a setup as I have probably seem for a bitch. Best of luck with them ?
  9. Yes you have a point there but I'm certain the saying is"act in haste, repent in leisure" & you have a point in saying that life is a hard game but should our sport & our dog's be such a hard game? Should we not be enjoying these things,or at least taking what enjoyment we can? Obviously opinions vary but I'm pretty sure that the majority of older people will give you this piece of wisdom that 'life is too short so enjoy it while you can".Whether you enjoy Fen running or lamping I hope you have the best of luck but please take what you can from it before the faceless politicians try to
  10. We all have to start somewhere and age doesn't always equal wisdom I'm afraid. Any sport attracts a fair share of arm chair experts but good mentors are thin on the ground. I'd advise anyone to go out & travel around & see what the difference is in dog's for lamping, coursing bigger stuff or what makes a good ferreting dog etc. People who are swimming in advice tend to be in need of some advice themselves. Nobody has all the answers. What i would say to anyone starting the game is to respect the fact that the dog or pup you have may seem not to be want but its what you have bought.
  11. This should be good, beer and popcorn at the ready !!! Déjà vu here methinks ?
  12. That is a lovely looking animal ?
  13. Have you got blue tooth to download straight to your laptop??Perhaps simply try putting the micro memory card in to the adapter which will fit in to the slot at the bottom right or left of your laptop and download from it to your files. That is easiest I find ?
  14. Well they never charged me at the time but yes if your charged then it's"no comment" as giving them a response only gives them notice of what your defence will be & time to prepare. They won't suddenly revoke the charges against you but when your case goes to the PF or the CPS they may if the facts are favorable for you. Best advice is to say nothing & save your energy arguing about it until it becomes necessary. Like it or loathe it our sport comes under undue discrimination but getting in a slanging match with an officer of the law will often bring even more attention to you.?
  15. No no no! The 2 game keepers were standing shining the lamp on me with a German Shepherd & I told them that it had better not go near my dog. Next thing the blue light goes on and we are then joined by another blue light. 2 police cars who were actually quite decent and accepted my story and gave me a warning. However I later received a letter from the Procurator Fiscal saying I had been caught & witnessed by the police trespassing in pursuit and had witnessed me lamping. Next charge was i had been caught in the possession of equipment for the intention of trespassing in pursuit (&
  16. I have a summons under trespass in pursuit (in that I was caught by the police and witnessed by 2 keepers lamping)& also I was caught by the police with my dog & a lamping kit with the intention of trespass in the pursuit of game. I was actually let off with a warning when they caught me but the Procurator Fiscal deemed to pursue it . They offered me a Fiscal fine of £100 or risk being taken to court. Our game has always been border line to risk with the law and punishment that is disproportionate to any actual blame from our actions but that is certainly nothing new. You always have
  17. They certainly look as if they have a good back on them mate . Lovely condition ?
  18. In my experience of insurance companies what they say & what they do is not always the same thing. Some vets state now that if the cost of certain procedures exceeds a certain price then you will have to pay for it yourself and claim the cost from the insurance company yourself. I'm not saying that they are all like that but its not exactly rare these days
  19. If you tell the insurance company that your dog is a working /running dog then you will pay through the nose if they will insure you at all. Technically your dog is a cross bred and a pet so if your vet isn't about to get specific then why rock the boat ?
  20. Get it in amongst them and preferably off the leash, if you go to most farmers doors and suggest that you be allowed to do this I can pretty much guess what the reply will be. Dusk or early morning is probably the best time to do it?
  21. I think i should perhaps add that most if not all lurchermen will have encountered this problem in some form or another, i certainly have.... However in reading that you have more than just 1 dog i think you have been pretty damn lucky to have escaped without serious incident so far. Sometime`s the dog ignores them wont wash when answering the farmer or police when it decides not to ignore them. Also quite frankly when 1 has a sheep down the rest tend to join in particulary when they are out of sight it. Often it tends to be as bugs bunny put it "dog pile on the rabbit" or in this case the sh
