Whippet Section Needed, Whos With Me ?
brenner replied to brenner's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
yeah , there are some odd balls in the dog game for sure -
yes busher. There is many a lurcher or whippet that will chase a Fox but purposely not go for the strike when they get close enough, even though they seem keen to be slipped on them. Each to their own but personally in that case I would double slip with a dog that would smash a fox, just to build confidence and then let said whippet go the next night on its own. If it still was hesitant on going for the strike on its own, I would remind myself its a rabbit dog and I would stick to rabbits and whatever else it might take . A.t.b brenner..no shame if a whippet won't take Fox but a bonus if it

Whippet Section Needed, Whos With Me ?
brenner replied to brenner's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
hey wuyang, I'm on the whippet forum and I like it but I have to say my loyalty lies with the hunting life. Over the years I've been on here I have been in stitches with laughter at some of the slagging that goes on , on this site. And truth be told , people that are into whippets or any other breed just for the money are very quickly sniffed out on this site . There really are some characters on this site and knowledge that you won't find on any other site. Half the fuckers on here are mad but wouldn't life be boring if we were all sane . As I said I do like that forum but ide much rather ta -

have to admit , even though im a fan of whippets, I look forward to your posts re whippets. I allways get a laugh out of them. and lets call a spade a spade, there are whippets alive that add fuel to your fire but .. that said , thankfully it has not been my experience with mine or the few ive been out with . -
Whippet Section Needed, Whos With Me ?
brenner replied to brenner's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
i get that your looking for someone to take the bait. but on a serious note. every pure bred working animal has its enthusiasts . be it a racing / coursing greyhound , saluki, whippet, pitbulls, ect . and when you get into pure breeds people like to talk breeding / pedigrees , what blood clicks with what blood, what certain lines have to offer or take away from others . it has very little to do with "look what ive got" and more to do with a common interest and for me.. learning more about other types of whippets that I might never get to hunt along side. a.t.b brenner -

I believe it would be a great thing for lads to talk all things whippet. Be it pedigrees/ breeding, Coarsing, racing, ferreting lamping . I think it would also be a good way to talk working with whippets without any of the usual " my lurcher is better than your whippet talk" that usually takes over. If you wanna compare lurchers to whippets, it would simply mean that you stumbled into the wrong section and need to be redirected. If anyone is with me just keep adding replies to say so . I can appreciate horses for courses and I wouldn't part with a whippet that was a good rabbiting dog that refused teeth. BUT.... I would rather a dog that would give a good account of its self on Fox, and if I had the choice between two stud dogs, all things being equal in regards to rabbiting I would choose the dog that wasn't shy of teeth over one that was . But that's just me, each to their own .I'm talking breeding pure whippet x whippet of coarse. I can understand that. lol. That's not how t.h.l works. We're meant to disagree on literally everything and then carry on like a pair of kids

Sure you'll have some fun with that pair There electric on the lamp , brilliant to watch and only just beginning , now to be fair there only getting easy courses because there's no need to give them anything hard at that age but there brilliant to watch , turn on a penny and a good burst of speed glad to hear they are starting up well for ye sully. Happy to hear they have a bit of speed to them. I'm looking forward to seeing how they do on teeth . Is the bitch bonding with ye ok ?

with the exception of ferreting without nets of course lol..

Just out of curiosity... Does anyone know what way these whippets are bred ? Are they worker x worker. Racing, show , non ped. I'm not in the market, just curious

If anyone knows socks personally, it wouldn't hurt to drop in on him and make sure he's ok. I'm starting to worry.. a thread on whippets gone 2 pages and he hasn't been on giving people abuse. Very strange ....
-
yeah. My whippet won't bother marking holes unless he is out with ferrets.
-
to tell the truth, Ide be feeling a bit let Down if read a topic on whippets , and socks didn't even bother to come on and start winding people up. It's kind of a his thing . Lol

True lads. but some people just Like the breed .and as the man says, most will hunt anyway , show or not. As most whippet fans know.. there have been some really good dogs out of "strike while The iron is hot" and he was the result of a working line out crossed to a show dog. I believe the idea was to put conformation back into a tightly bred line as well as the obvious reasons for injecting fresh blood. That dog really threw whippets with fire and stamina. That's a cracker of a whippet mate. Very good feet. Best of luck with whatever you do with him. You might even have a good little team if your terriers Bush rabbits, I just think it turns every walk into a hunt if you go the right spots. Your whippet would stay in great shape and would thank you for letting him do what every fiber of his body wants to do. Do you know if he is from any particular line of whippets ?

Yes on the whole the Alsatians are far always more steadier and easier to keep and maintain, the drive in say the mallsand dutchies can be far to much for lots of the lurcher handlers ,one needs to be able to switch off from the behaviour at times . Some just Cana handle this atb bunnys.thanks for the reply. I like the idea of these highly driven dogs but in reality I don't think I would have the head or the time for a Dutch or malli.
-
That's a nice looking bitch. Are the working line German shepherd usually less of a handful then a d.shepherd or malli ?

I'd imagine his answer will be for a bit more strength , seen a lot of whips take foxes but struggle to hold them, seen one whip/bull work ever on a fox and was more than capable of dispatching his quarry. pretty much it , in a nut shell. He is a is only a rabbit dog at the end of the day. He made short work of that one but I've seen him struggle on stuff before. A.t.b
