It always amazes me when I read such threads 1) NEVER use gloves to handle your ferrets - if they bite so what, it doesn't really hurt does it? Gloves make it difficult for you to know just how hard (or not) your grip is. And besides, you want the ferret to get used to your smell and feel, not that of the glove. 2) NEVER cover your hand with a foul smelling/tasting substance - you want the ferret to view the smell of you as a pleasurable experience. 3) ALWAYS give a negative and immediate response to the ferret when it nips, but make it a response associated with your hand. Why not keep her and deal with it? For sake, where's the 'a dogs for life' thinking gone Feet and toes need loads of time to heal properly, and even though they look 'sorted' they can still pose a problem - even for a weekend moocher! Stick with her, listen to the advice and give her time. You say it's her first season so there's no rush! Crow

Are you sure? He may have been the first to make others aware of it through his 'commercial venture' but can you really say that before him no-one else set themselves up with the same 'system'? Crow

Hooks and nets are not a good combination, especially on the front!

Can someone please forward me the link - just for 'research' purposes of course

Please mods, stop this blatent example of using us men as nothing more than objects to be used and cast aside

Sorry, I don't understand

You've got it all wrong - it's my mood that's grumpy, my arse is lovely

I will no longer look at threads that appear in the classifieds with a title that only says 'For Sale' or 'Wanted' Not only is it downright lazy on the part of the thread originator, but it also means that many people waste their time looking at threads which prove to be of no interest! So, if you can't be arsed to consider my wasted time then I can't be arsed to help you out Rant over!

272 views of this thread yet only three replies! That always happens when people just put 'Wanted' or 'For Sale' in the title- why not put 'Working Lurcher Wanted' and you'll have saved me, and 269 others, looking at your thread when we needn't had

Sorry, I should have included the following quote too: So any doesn't include purse nets then? Anyway, who are you calling fool, fool

Why knit onto a split ring - why not knit directly onto the ring you intend to keep? I knit straight onto the ring for a purse net, I don't cut it off again and I dont use a split ring - and I don't think mine look untidy or amaturish (and no, the meshes don't pull apart on the ring!)! I'll teach you how when you come down Crow

I don't think you'll find a commercial supplier - those that I know who use sliders make their own. Give it a go, it's simplicity itself

Don't be a tight-wad. If you'd bid on the ebay one you'd have gone to £16 anyway, just bite the bullet and go another £4 It's getting collectable, and every day you hesitate the price goes up

Give these a call as they were advertising one recently. T.M.Cawthorn, 7 New St, Sudbury, CO10 IJB Phone: 01787-372075 Or you could try Coch-y-Bonddu as they were advertising one too. Expect to pay about £20 - £25 Crow

I was out last night lamping with my ferret when suddenly I saw something flutter across the beam. On close inspection I found this: Has anyone lost one I wonder -
Some petty arguments when running a lurcher club

It's interesting that you don't consider the retrieve as part of the job! I always consider retrieving to be a bit like dropping your trousers when you have a piss; you don't have to, but it saves a load of work in the long run and is less embarressing in front of your mates Anyway, back to the poll - in the bag! -
Take a look in the classifeds section of this and the 'other site' and you'll see many pups for sale. And what about the large number of older dogs currently being offered up? Maybe we should be looking in our own back yard before we start having a go about Hancocks The number of dogs in rescue homes is not down to breeders, it's down to irresponsible owners who are quick to ditch a dog too! Breeders breed because they can sell - stop buying and they stop breeding Edited to add; maybe it's time for a return to dog licensing?

I doubt she's pertrified If she was she'd more than likely stay close to the 'pack leader' (and that MUST be you!). She's probably just realised the fun to be had by running off and enjoying herself - she's only a pup after all. Also, your pup will start to mature earlier than, say, a collie cross, so she may have found the joys of scents, etc. Keep an eye on her when she's on a lead. What's she doing? Has she started to be a 'bit more interested'? Also, as has been said, work on the obediance too. But, more than anything else remember that she is still a pup

Funny how they supported shooting as a preferred alternative to hunting with hounds when supporting the ban! Crow

im afraid what you state is not baiting! To set dogs upon (a chained animal, for example) for sport. You know very well what I mean! 'To set dogs upon (a chained animal, for example) for sport ! That’s an example only, as well as chains it could be confined, held, imprisoned, etc. If I were to set a terrier on a fox in a skip this would be baiting. What about a barrel? This would be baiting too? By the very definition the act of setting a dog on an animal for sport that is not free to escape is baiting - and that includes if I sit and watch it in a tunnel that I've just spent 45 min

OK, lets get one thing straight; I have not given my opinion of those that fight dogs in any way. I certainly haven't called them scum or evil b*****ds, and I'm not jumping on any band wagon. What I am keen to do (to those openly contributing to the thread and those lurkers in the background) is make it perfectly clear that many of those who hunt with dogs do not see themselves (or their sport) as having anything in common with dog fighting As for the scenario of terriers working below ground lets have a look at that: > When entering a terrier to ground it is not with the intention
-
Your last line says it all.....Cant believe some of the replys on here....i think some of you need to give yourselfs a shake and have a re think! So that's it then? Just because some groups of people (our apponents) consider dog fighting to be akin to hunting with dogs we all have to sit back and accept their understanding? What sort of logic is that? To follow that logic means that we would never be allowed to have our own mind - in fact what makes them so f*****g important that they can lay down the 'rules' of understanding anyway? Why don't they accept my view? I hunt with dogs,

I am better than a dog fighter because I don't go out with the intention of letting my dog smashed up - and if it does I deal with it immediately. How would you consider a gunmen that shoots with the sole intention of causing injury and a slow death? Both have the same intention, and that is to dispatch the quarry as quickly as possible. So should we be supporting the dog fighters? Why is it nuts for some people to condem dog fighters as scum? It's all down to personal morals and beliefs and dog fighting goes against both for many individuals so it's bound t
