  1. I think there mainly a rabbit dog to be honest mate. Dont know if they would be any good on bigger things, my neighbour had one and said it wouldnt know what to do with a fox if it caught it and wouldnt catch a hare anyways. It was a star on the rabbits though. I fancy one for rabbits but alot of people say they aint very hardy ?
  2. Cheers mate like the idea of a collie grey whippet, would they be ok in large fields aswell ? As I have some farms I can go on with some big open fields Also wondering about a whippet ? Or a 3/4 whippet 1/4 bedlington ?
  3. What lurcher would be best to run on the terrain I have around here. The ground has alot of sand dunes so is quite hilly, also has alot of shrubs and such, you can see where the rabbits have been running through and you can also see tons of holes in the sides of the hills I was thinking a dog that has tons of speed wouldnt be much good as hed be slowing down to turn n move all the time Whats a good agile cross for take rabbits ? and even a long ear when Im out with the gun to shoot em
  4. so ? I got spaniel for that n I also like fowling ... have a lab I use for that
  5. Am thinking of getting one but dont know whether to get a 1/2 n 1/2. 1/4 n 3/4 or just a straight whippet pup
  6. Wouldnt they be more likely to give mouth ? What about bedlington x whippet ? Or whippet x bedlington whippet ?
  7. Yes your right speed is speed.........but what seperates a lot of dogs is knowing how to use that speed.Fieldcraft and knowing when to put the burners on is a big factor in a dogs sucsess in the field........I've seen a few dogs that will blow my bitch away when it comes to out and out speed but their catch rate is not as good.A fast dog will always be able to run fast in a straight line but quarry dosen't run in straight lines. I do get what your saying mate, best to know when to hit the boosters than to use them all the time
  8. Probally is, shes a 2 year old lab but my year old springer is quite nippy lol
  9. No worries mate, just some people seem to think that just because he won races and such means he was useless in the field calling him a "show pony" if a dog is fast on a track then its going to be fast in the field surely Speed is speed at the end of the day
  10. Well fair play to you John mate. Im not looking to start any my dogs better than yours arguements, were all grown ups I was just merely interested in a dog that belongs to a friend of mine. I know he ran the dog in the field and he got his fair share of game, he also ran him in races and put him in shows from what I hear. Best of luck to you all. You probally have forgot more about lurchers than I know. Hopefully though atleast I can learn some on my way, only just got interested in it and dont see me getting one for a while anyways. Hope they lift the bloody ban though, gutted if I

Also other people I know who have seen it run. What have you won with your dog mate ? oh ai, feck all You really need to get out more fella if you think trophies and rosettes are the sign of a top class dog I've probably forgot more about lurchers than you know you numpty........thats why your singing the praises of another mans show pony he ran the dog in races mate

  13. Yer well lads like to see some of the things you have won ? Or is everyone all talk, seems alot of people here are eager to put others down yet have little to show for themselves. Regardless I have seen evidence and know that not only was this dog good in shows and races but was regulary worked out in the field and caught plenty of game Dont see why some people trying to belittle the dog anyways ? Was just curious about a dog of my mates

  18. DOG NOW GONE The fella I had my lab off kept her litter sister, she is a good gundog but he trials them and the lil bitch just aint sharp enough to compete so he wants to move her on to make room for a new up and coming pup he has bought in. The bitch is black, coming upto 2 years old this summer, from what he has told me she is very steady but if unseen in woodland does tend to range out a little too far. She has been out picking ducks off the river and also done some picking up on a local shoot where she picked a strong cock runner. She may not trial but would make a brilli
  19. What would you guys say is best first lurcher ? For the purpose of a pot filler with things like rabbits, looking for a mooch about in the day and also to be lamping. My mate says something like a whippet crossed with a beddy/whippet. Also have read collie x greyhound are great first dogs ? What about something like a collie/grey x beddy/whippet ? Anyone work these ? Dont want a dog that is massive lol Also what type of things would you use them on, pre ban of course ? Would they pull down say a fallow ? Have had and trained a labrador for picking up and a springer spaniel

  22. my mate in work from South Wales owns a Lurcher called Dixie, this Lurcher was champion of champion of many counties in the UK, hes got a wall cover in trophies and ribbons that the dog won. I have recently took a interest in lurchers and have a good chat to him about them. He is very proud of his dog and showed me the pictures, also he showed me a copy of Country Mans Weekyly from 2002 which he kept which featured his dog and some of his achievements. Just wondering if anyone heard of him ? I think I read he came from a lurcher called "Floyd" ? Supposedly the best lurcher to come out of w
