  2. Cheers buddy, Thats what I did with that duck, just let her sniff it until she was more confident, once she was used to it she was carrying it everywhere she went Hopefully next time we're out now she will get a warm one back to hand
  3. Ive been doing some cold game work with the duck and the dog was apprehensive at first but after a lil bit was picking it up and bringing it to hand like a pro
  4. Had a amazing night the other night, went wild fowling for the first time ever. Set up around the flight pond with the 2 boys with me at other points, we waited as the light faded, I was looking about when I heard it, BANG, I turn round to see my mate Dai had dropped a Teal over the top of him but missed the second one, I pulled the gun up and lined it up and BANG, I missed it, the bird pulled to the left and I gave it the other barrel, BANG, I hit it square on , down it came but it was a runner, so Dai told me to get onto it quick and dispatch is ASAP. I sent out my young lab, shes 14 mon
  5. If you have a cocker coming then why ask if you should get a cocker or a springer ?? Both dogs are great gundogs, just depends on the trainer!
  6. It is my only dog and my first. Im not trying to rush for season just think im trying to get the perfect dog lol. Thanks for advice, a will keep at the basics the now till he's a bit older. Billy You'd be surprised how many people ruin there dogs by rushing ahead when what there trying to do is make there dog perfect. I did the same with my lab. Take a deep breath, take a step back with the training, just because the dog is 6 months doesnt mean you start training, Take a month off mate, see what hes like then
  7. When I got my 8 week old ESS I put her straight in with my 1 year old lab, both bitches, They play, fight and generally cause havoc enjoying themselves in the garden, house and tonight down the pub lol, but once in the kennel dont do any of that and just go and cwtch up in bed, they have never tried to play with each other in there haha. Weird that is lol
  8. Why on earth are you training a 10 week old spaniel to heel ? At this time its just following you, it doesnt know its "heeling" Train the dog not to pull on the lead and simple things like sit and wait, then leave it machure before you start training. Let it be a pup!!! Would you send a 6 year old to university ? I think not. Calm down mate theres no rush
  9. I have also heard to add the metal strips around the corners to stop them eating the wood, also you could attack mesh onto the door if he's ripping into it with his claws
  10. Where the hell did 5 pups get 1500 to buy there dad ? Did anyone else scratch there head after reading ?
  11. Can you post some pics please ? Im in the bridgend area and possibly interested! Is he kennel'd ?
  12. Bloody hell lol, the Springers I have seen are hard enough to keep still for 2 minutes, if cockers are worse then I think I know which I will be going for lol
  13. well got the lab hopefully for duck flighting and water work, although I would train the spaniel for this I wouldnt be relying on it to do this really, mostly looking for a dog to train to flush from heavy cover And to take beating and rough shooting
  14. Right not looking at the moment as put off getting another dog until my 1 year old lab is older, machurer and better trained (hopefully) lol! But I have decided as rather have another lab I would like to get a spaniel more for there hunting as the lab will hunt but not so much as a spaniel, I was just wondering what you guys would go for ? At the moment my dad and me paid half each for my labrador (Which I wish we never had) as I want her kennel'd but they keep putting her in the house and spoiling her, but then when shes naughty and doesn't listen its my fault so with the next one I
  15. 1. No idea, does he pull it out and lie on it? Or pull it out and then go in without ut ? 2. Some dogs do it mate. You just have to keep him away from it and let him know its not ok!! 3. Some dogs need a bit of grass to settle the stomach or just need some in there diet. Maybe try adding some chopped up veg to the kibble! IUn the wild the dogs would get veg from eating the animal it kills stomach!
  16. I do really want a springer, always wanted 1. Worked with them alot and know what they are like! It is for working in cover to the gun, the companion to my other dog is just a bonus and I do have the time to bring it on Although I might let this one go and look for one closer to home as at this current time relocating the kennel and having alot done to the house so will prob give it a few weeks/months till a more convenient time and then start looking for one
  17. Mines the same mate, she will wander off to look for dogs to play with, Shes 1 now and getting better. Seems happy to just lay in the garden more, but if she sees/hears a dog she will still go Just need to secure your garden, I also put her in a run when I cant watch her!
  18. Cheers mate. Dont know whether to pass this one by though and wait till the lab is a bit older. Shame to let such a good pup go by but I do have alot going on atm aswell so might be for the best!
  19. I myself have some of those kennel run panels. Very easy to do and much cheaper than buying those timber kennel + runs. Panels are about £50 each depending on how big you want it. I got mine 2nd hand from a mate who'd finished with his Mrs n kept a lurcher ar her house, so I got a bargain. There very easy and good if you have a corner in your garden as then you only need 2 lol! Best to stick on top of concrete though, you can just have a small dog house in them then
  20. You might be better off with a spaniel mate, MUCH easier to train for a first timer, My uncle used to have one that would flush for his birds of prey when he was young! Also great dogs to shoot over!
  21. Theres a thread like 5 posts down called "Kennel" Its shows the whole process and results in an excellent kennel, I fail to see how you could have missed this topic. Anyways, copy it and you'll be fine
  22. As some of you may have read, am looking for a companion for my 1 year old lab bitch and a dog that will be more eager to hit the cover and thorns to flush rabbits as I have a new permission with tons of rabbits but all under thick thorn bushes! Always fancied a English Springer anyways, and also another dog to keep my bitch company in the kennel so they can be houses outside together fulltime rather than in the house good.gif Dont like leaving her for too long all alone! Anyways had a quick scout about and spotted this lil nipper, only bitch left in the litter. Here are the details, what
  23. Yer she has been introduced to the gun, started off bangin plates n such n worked upto a starter pistol, then the shogtun, she is fine Havent done any hunting with the guy I go training with but have taken her beating and she hunts very well through the cover but not into the bushes/bramble! Seen a 3 n half springer bitch for decent money might be a good companion for her
