The river taff, south wales, which I've lived less than 300 yards from for most of my life, in different areas, is now among the 10 cleanest rivers in britain. Kingfishers, dippers, wagtails, mallards, widgeon, grebes, little and great crested, and a host of other birds and wildlife, are regularly seen, including otters, that two of my mates have seen,but I've still yet to see one, and I've fished and walked many stretches of it regularly. Great for salmon, sewin, and brilliant for brown trout and grayling.
