    But many if them do get broke, and do need fixing, even after just jumping down off a settee, or trying to run down a few steps a bit too quickly. No-one has mentioned 'outcrossing' them to another breed. Surely, it wouldn't be too hard for breeders to produce a less injurious type of teckel, like they were 60, 70 years ago?!

    Why don't people that own and breed these dogs, set about a breeding plan to lengthen the legs, and shorten the backs of these dogs? Not a dig at you guys, just a genuine question. I really like teckels/dachshunds, my old old man still has the grandson, aged 12 now, of the two he had. Grandmother lived to 16, but they both had more than a few problems over the years. ?

    Yeah, well when I say sleep, it was more of a exhaustion based 'haze' after all the 'mental anguish' I had to endure the last couple of weeks. Anyway, you were lucky you had lampposts. We had to make do with lightning struck, burnt out trees! ?

Had a phonecall from our middle lad's school, again, 3rd time in three weeks, he's got detention next week, again, and is on report.     No, Magoo, I'm not a whippet man. I've owned whippets which caught hares, and I've owned lurchers which caught hares, both with fair law, and caught said coursed hare WELL UNDER a minute. Believe it or not Magoo, these weren't exceptiinal dogs. ?

    Some very good replies. But, just remember, you are working with a saluki cross, so ALL of the above advice 'might' work, or not. Good luck, but I'd rather an easier life. ?
