Worst bird to start them on Catcher....too many feathers that fall out to easy. not so sure,they retrieve them they will retrieve anything,nothing like a flapper to get the dog interested ....you just said the very same thing in your last post. A young dog shouldn't be started on pigeons because of the feathers falling out, wether its a lurcher or a gun dog. Snipe are great to start of with...... A winged bird isn't good either as it makes the dog want to run in, probably more a gun dog fault though rather than a lurchers... Dident say you couldent start them.Did say it

  18. I saw a red kite, sparrowhawk, buzzard, kestrel, goshawk & peregrine falcon all in the space of a few days, and all within a few miles of each other last summer. Not many people have seen that either... Yes these falconry centres are nice places to visit Malt..............

  20. Shame none of the smart arses put their brain in gear and came up with that before they jumped in on the lad eh? In his 18 years he is doing really well then Malt as he has seen 2 things now that probably only a hanful of people maybe see. A kestrel eating a magpie and a kestrel eating a poult. Sounds very much like a sparrowhawk but if he has looked it up then i shall believe him 110%.......keeping my eyes open now for the chance of seeing that... Dont think my comment earlier was smart arsey either.....

I reckon thats a Spanish Kestral anyway so I reckon the kids better at identifying birds than you cleverdick. Thats the only 1 i could find that was up close and decent but you can still see the difference surely, very similar........
