totally different dogs for totally different jobs. Spaniels are generally used for beating. They will hit any cover even if there is nothing 'in' there. Labs on the other hand being retrievers are ment for the picking up side of things. Both dogs can do each others job to a standard but they do have there qualities in certain jobs.

Have you winessed it, or are you just going by propaganda distributed by the organisations you have mentioned? Trying to act pompous and belittle members only makes you appear foolish and suspect. So as i have mentioned, have you seen it in person? And do you think only riflemen have the rights to take deer? I will say that in this country its now a historical thing for me, BUT i do like your united attitude, and a hint of love for the LACS......... I believe this member was a member before on here and was asked to leave???? I vaguely remember I mean I can't be 100% sure of c

Mains Electric Fence Energiser Help
Lab replied to jasper65's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
I've always used a single pin driven down around a foot and that's a fence taken off the mains. And you don't want to touch that.... Lol Nice one Lab . I had a belt off the 12v unit while set on the highest setting and boy did that give me a crack. it seems strange on this Galagher mains unit why it says 2 or more earth stakes 2/3 meters long , I have never seen them that long............ -

Gamekeeping. Past, present and future.

Thanks for your input mate. I agree with you 100% it is a career more ideally suited to someone who has already gone through the 'daft stage' where you want to be out drinking and shagging every weekend. But then again, the grouse side of things is more and more being tailored to suit the younger ones and they are struggling to get decent lads. What man in his right mind would get up at 4am sit out for hours on end waiting on some vermin to come in, spend the rest of the day checking snares, traps, gritting, burning, shooting etc etc then stroll in at dark Oclock to a wife and kids have a b -

Its a strange one for me. I've never worked for estate and any shoots i've had have been me renting the place and letting out shooting. I never went to college but i learned the stuff i know from my Grandad. I spent alot of time learning on the rearing field first....and although maybe a little biased i have always thought that this is the hard bit of the job..... The keepering side of things for me was great. I loved shoot days(when it was going right) and just getting out there and working the dogs. Obviously there are alot of bad points with the main one being 'time'.You have no time for -

No doubt in the right hands they could ,what do you think Lab,a challenge ?,but never to the standard of any Gun Breed,It's like taking a S.J. on the Road, they'll do,but the place for them is in a field.. I quite believe that any dog, well any small dog could do a job in the beating line. Especially with the drive of a russell. The part i find funny is when people say there better than gundogs at there own game......yes maybe a shite pet owners 'gundog' but not one bred for purpose.....

Luckily the boss picks up the feed bill LOL With out doubt stamina is bred in to a dog without the correct physical conformation the dog will never reach the same levels as a dog bred specifically for the job. the nature of field trials mean that a fast, busy dog is desirable one that will give it's all for the moment its' being judged rather than a dog that takes its' time and works methodically for prolonged periods so to answer your question you can't nurture what it doesn't have and ftch generally don't have stamina, From my point of view if a dog has to be swapped half way through t
