Good topic , as i am still novice on running dogs some of the threads posted, i read i think god my dogs must be crap lol , we dont have golf courses , but we do have very short pony paddocks , and very fast rabbits , both dogs have had the odd rabbit from these fields but also a lot of misses , i much prefer the cattle fields , but i do walk the local ones in the day light if possible and any rabbit holes out in the field , i stick branches in them , i no you cant avoid all dangers but i do try and run them as safe as i can .

southcott replied to MR TEA POT's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
sounds a bit like are morning ! after purchasing my first two ferrets not really a clue on these little chaps other than watch the teeth , we went out yesterday for the first time with my friend Kay who has worked ferrets before . and we allowed hubbie to come and play with his gun, we had great fun bolting the rabbits , my little lurcher missed both , as did hubbie with the gun , but all in all it was a great afternoon and me and Kay where crying with laughter when the ferret took a dislike to hubbie , not quite sure what the dancing on the back legs is all about , i guessed he was either e -

I hate going around asking , going to make a real effort and ask the local farms today, will make life a lot easer than sneaking around

That made me smile this morning , your evening sounded very similar to mine, i ran my two last night from my friends truck , i was not sure how it would work with both dogs , as they are young and very competitive with each other, so i popped my crate in the back , and covered it with a blanket to avoid any noise ! ran the small bitch first and really pleased she is now using her brain and not missing many , The larger bitch is very keen and has a great turn of speed , but still a lot to learn , it now makes me realise how much my other bitch has come on since last year. One of the rabbits kil

I use the voice first , then the stare , and if they are really pushing it a shake around the chops.

I often wondered what do people mean by a hard night/day, like how many runs/courses would you call hard day/night My normal night is walking from the house for about 2/ 3 hours with about 5 slips if we are lucky , but i have got my friend who shoots interested in running the dogs so we are lucky enough to do his land with the landrover weekends , She had 8 rabbits last night and ran beside the landrover on some of the fields , she is quite a tough head strong little dog and did some fair long runs, i could tell she was tiring so we popped her in the land rover and finished th

just checking i am doing right when i come home from a nights lamping , and the little bitch has worked quite hard. obviously first she is checked for any injury's and then watered , she lives in the house so she is nice and warm , but i was wandering if i am giving the right type of food to replenish what she has just burnt off . tonight she had cooked beef , with grated cheese on top , she did drink a fair amount of water, but do i need to give any thing special to replace what she has just burnt off.

spoke to a lady who shows boxers , she said she always culls her pups if she has to many . At least she was not in for the money .

my 7mth pup is the same goes mad at any excuse ! jumps on the other dogs , people , does your head in , i leave a lead on her in the house to give her a jerk , and only when she sits does she get a fuss , this is the most excitable pup ive ever had , not only is it really annoying , i worry she will either hurt her self with the flying leaps , or get bitten by the other dogs .

i use it mainly on my sheep , but have used it on the dogs , but dont over do it

My bitch broke her toe last year , and we where told about a new practise in Bodmin , that deals with the rescue grey hounds and there injuries, will try and look out the number for you , fortunately my bitch mended and did not need surgery , so can not guarantee them 100 % , but may be worth ringing for a chat. -
