    Keep on with the wings build his confidence try different distances places then I always start my dogs on cold magpies, light colourfully and not a big mouth full new dogs will not want to retrieve large birds to start with some will straight away but I find building them up slowly is the best

    If there in pens just break up a bale of straw under a tin sheet or sheet of wood they will find it but get ready for plenty of shit there horrible to keep atb

    This mornings plan was to start pairing up my English partridge from the big wintering pen as there starting to pair up themselves and getting territorial. So large fishing net at the ready 7 pairs down roughly 20 to go when the net got caught on my welly zip I went arse over tit grabbed the nearest thing which had to be a drinker hung up on the middle timber which snapped and left a gaping hole were all the partridge made there escape am gutted second year birds so hopefully they might come back to pen come last light fingers crossed

    Start from scratch and take your time on the basics it's to easy to jump a step or two thinking it won't matter because he's a older dog stop whistle is a must for any spaniel I would be working around that

    Yes that was last shoot formally but I was talking to the keeper and a few HPR and pointer clubs come together and walk the full moor, over a few days for the count and they take any pricked or weak birds out ready for next year's strong breeding stock

    Was a brilliant day 4 drives all in butts each butt has 2 guns one shooting forward the other back then taking it in turns who's shooting were I should of shot better but I don't have the money to practice so Al have to rely on luck

    I add glucose powder to the water a lot cheaper than Greyhound recovery drink and does the same job

    I have a friend who's half Greek and i have supplied meat to him for years he invited me round for tea he slow cooked rabbit cooked with tinned chopped tomatoes doesn't sound much but beautiful none the less

    We start seeing them about end of November but don't allow guns to shoot them till boxing day shoot give the little guys time to recover from the long trip

    The keeper on the neighbouring shoot is a real nice chap we look out for him. problem is he let's land off a few different farms with each farmer letting someone do a little shooting hear and there so he never has full control. last year the farmers son and his friends decided to go shooting on Xmas day not giving any consideration that there was a boxing day shoot on the land keeper was fuming but what could he do the blokes 67 knows nothing else and has no birds in his drives due to spoilt rich kids so we let him come over and have a few boundary drives didn't cost us anything but ment the w

    am feeding a small drain just on the boundary of are shoot we get old bread from bakery so i brop 2 bags a week off in side and just on banking i havent shot it yet but went out early this week on full moon and sat for a hour seen a few skeets but nothing in number then heard a couple of shots in the distance and that was it the drain was full must of been 300 at least am not going to put any shooting pressure on them so they feel safe then hit it early December atb kev
