I remember recently some military policeman shot a video of a big black cat and it was walking a long a railway line so you had the space between the sleepers to get an idea of length and it was plenty big enough! I still need a fair bit of practice with mine! To be fair mate i have missed a lot more than i have hit, and nearly everything has been in cover, or just not been expecting it. Squirrels, rabbits, rats, and various things with feathers. Pheasants are easiest obviously, sometimes you get three shots at the same bird Edited to add - take it out lamping and try to knock over a couple of squatters. If you miss and they run you can always then slip the dog.

Like and civilized ferreter I do, his name is Jeff and he's pretty handy, the rabbits do seem to taste better after having their last rites. I found him hanging about my local primary school. I did try using a Rabbi for a while but he kept tangling the nets. . . . not very kosher at all.

Total gentleman, mine went missing in the post (i guess as it never arrived) and when i told him, he immediately posted another with no argument and included a pin badge for my hassle. First test shot i split a fencing panel and since that have taken a fairly wide range of game. They are IDEAL for a wee mooch . . . . . especially where you shouldn't be, their compact size makes them discrete and comfy and i find them very accurate.

Go and get him mate - usually if they come from an 'unknown' source they get pts after 7 days (at least in some places. . . . i.e ARSEpca). If you have the ability do it, or take it until you can put him with a friend in a nice pet home. If you don't do it you will probably always wonder . . . .

The orange rust can be a sign of mange, you will not see the mites as they are under the skin, and even with a skin sample you will not always see them. If they continue to lose hair but more importantly begin to scratch and raise scabs on their body then it's mange. Treated with two drop on doses two weeks apart (product and quantity dependant on weight of ferret)

It's all about who you know, or who you know, knows. I've got 1000's of acres of permission from chasing up EVERY lead. Like someone else says it's also about getting involved with stuff, going to local farmer pubs (possibly with dog in tow if its well behaved) and get chatting, hopefully it comes up in conversation (hence dog) and goes from there. You could also try beating on a local shoot or syndicate. But first place is does anyone you even know vaguely have ANY connection whatsoever to anyone who owns any land.
