  1. Is the question not, do you prefer a dog that runs and catches deer quickly and well, or one that fannies about, might catch them if they hit something but in general often loses them. Because that doesn't sound like it's going to have that many different responses.
  2. Alright mate, funny funny, all i know is that i watched two guys insert burning/smoking something into the holes of a few small warrens, leaving one unblocked and use a pump to drop the rabbits bolting out of that unblocked hole. What i have never understood is why they were doing it and not using a ferret. I'm not claming i have done it and i don't have any reason to lie, or say that, if it wasn't what i had seen.
  3. Well didn't this get emotional. Johnny and i have had this conversation a number of times. Hunting is great, and a way of life, and a love. But anyone who really 'enjoys' the killing, is somewhat questionable. Someone smarter than me once said, some men hunt to have killed and other kill to have hunted.
  4. I agree with johnnyboy68, although taking the dog out and seeing the ferrets work is quite nice, the actual killing of rabbits isn't fun at this time of year, apart from the odd buck. Pest control, wading through nettles, jumping on scuttlers, with the number os kills constantly on your mind, is never my idea of 'fun'. It's a necessary evil and i'll be honest we try and let any doe run on. And before any smart ass says it, the landowner doesnt care if they are dead or alive as long as they are gone.
  5. stinking out a warren is exactly that ,nothing to do with smoke,if you saw people shooting rabbits that had been stunk out ,they must have had quite a lot of patience, because it took a few days to work. Well they were using burning rags, so i guess the smoke may have played a part? All i know is what i saw matey The stinking out for the rough shooting was done the day before and had good results.
  6. Haha, it was pest control done through the medium of hunting during the summer Figured 'summer hutning' would get a few views DISCLAIMER - ALL RABBITS HARMED WERE DONE SO STRICTLY ON A PEST CONTROL BASIS
  7. Wicked album of reggae / dub versions of the gorillaz tunes -

  9. I thought it would get to at least ten replies before some muppet went "look at me look at me, my dog does deer, please come and smash my door down and take my dogs away ", i thought the initial post was fairly clear in its tenses
  10. And it only took 8 replies to find the retard!!!! :notworthy:
  11. To be fair i can't think of anything worse than doing the farms and estates in summer, about my limit is gardens etc. If it's bigger then it's a gun job My main issue with summer time ferreting the main places is that there are so many mini buns underground that the ferrets just run in circles killing them, it takes ages, you cant get a mark to dig, and you leave the warren filled with the dead, f*****g it up for future trips. This was pretty chilled, but you could tell the dog and ferrets were not that thrilled with the heat. I used one of last years kits though (bred by my buddy johnnyboy6
  12. I've read through that topic and whilst interesting it's not true. Rabbits can be stunk / smoked out of a warren, i have seen it done both to put them all above ground for a rough shooting day with spaniels and also seen someone doing it and shooting them as they flee. It does not work with a smoker, it only works with i think diesel soaked rags, which must create a thick, acrid, oily smoke. Doesn't work well on deep warrens though.
  13. I'd use a good fast line bred 3/4 grey 1/4 collie, that's doing exactly what he wants the pups to do
  14. I had a call on Wednesday about some bunnys in a garden, living in the flower beds, had to go down today to shift them and despite the low numbers i was expecting a b*****d of a day, waiting about (no digging allowed). Instead it went very smoothly, 4 rabbits home, 4 rabbits in the nets. 2 dead bucks and 2 does destined for the warren in my garden. Job done, in minimal time with minimal fuss Now i'm going to treat myself to a pie and a pint and then go shoot some tree rats! Sorry the photo is a bit crap (phone).
  15. Sean you CAN kind of smoke them out, with burning diesel rags, but it's not a great idea. Does work though, but not so much on deep warrens.
  16. The only thing with line breeding, is it IS handy when someone else manages to produce a cracking 1/2 or 3/4 bred dog or bitch, or the line breeding thing can go to pot.
  17. I'd say in general line bred, assuming you can go back a decent way, say 3 gens, and see that you have good dogs, it should in theory throw more litter consistency, if you use the right types of dogs. I.e half x to half x etc etc etc if you pick the right dogs can produce a litter of bigger dogs (example) consistently across a litter, than a straight 1st x. How that sound?
  18. I had a very happy slightly chubby vegan girlfriend once. But aye, most of them are weedy moany b*****ds
  19. We have a fair number of song birds, but a lot of greys and you do notice in areas where we kill them on sight there are more birds than the areas we leave.
  20. How do you define a war criminal though? That's the thing, how involved at what level do you have to be? And who's going to make sure the yanks don't write every civilian shot as a 'necessary casualty of war' rather than a war crime, just because they are fighting the 'good fight'. I mean we go balls to the wall to get the folk who bomb a couple of busses or drop 2 towers, but the yanks have done a lot of similar stuff, and they just let it go. And the Russians. And those guilty in the Bosnian conflict, the yanks purposely did not put any effort into pursuing them. The list goes on
  21. Scott - it's empty now mate
