  1. Same as many above, i like a short, round headed shovel, with a decent shaft and comfortable grip, got a couple from tool station or screw fix for a couple of quid each. Long shovels are no good for getting in under hedges etc. But if going to land that needs it, a long bladed post shovel goes in the car.
  2. I agree, either get it sorted or get rid of it. Donating 5 quid means f**k all, when folk are peddling a half dozen pups for 100-200 each. A for sale section can be a good thing, but i think it needs it's own mod.
  3. DOn't you think it might be worth pointing it out to him?
  4. Bull x with the scars, looking out of car window. Def been taken off here. So has the pat i think.
  5. Just for the record, i have never met Malt, but have just got a really good impression of him from on here. Seems like a totally sound, level headed bloke, who wouldn't let it go to his head, and would allow the right level of humour, but get rid of some of the pish. Even if for starters he just removed the blatant sales posts, apart from maybe the old sticky at the top for genuine kits being sold / given away. And also locked the odd thread that is just a wind up and argument. As Malt says, at one time i was posting a daily thread on actual ferreting (even if only catching the odd bun
  6. Yes Scott i think he is. And yep, you are right, since it's been linked to facebook, it's been real bad!
  7. Alright everyone! I doubt that anyone has failed to notice that of late, this section has been flooded with ridiculous posts, and folk on a wind up. This is obviously detremental to the section, most of our sanity and the genuine (but slightly clueless) newbies who get a barrage of abuse as folk think they are just on a wind up. I'm sure everyone has also noticed that Stubby has been M.I.A for quite sometime and very few other MODS ever venture onto this section, so no one is about to clean the place up and remove the idiots. Now what i am proposing is that we have a new MOD. A
  8. Wouldn't buy anything off him anyway . . . . Poorly made and take an age to come.
  9. Well he seems to have some issues. I think dressing appropriately, being polite etc is a small price to pay for getting some hunting land.
  10. if your willing to get dressed for the occasion do some un paid graft have someone looking down there nose at you all for some permission then i'd rather not have it Someone has a chip on their shoulder . . .
  11. My whippet has a nose like a hound, will follow a line well, find game in any cover and mark to ground.
  12. To be fair, a lot better than expected!
  13. It is 100% worse since it has been linked to facebook.
  14. Very good marking dogs, but be aware that using them to grab netted rabbits etc might cause you some problems if you plan to shoot over it in future.
  15. Aye i notice he managed to look weighed down for the photo haha. He's a smart one though - always doing the old "can you just hold these bunnies for a sec" and then getting 'engaged' in some other task! But aye he's learning. . . . you say, "Tom lad, see that towering hell of blackthorn over there, with the wee hole right in the middle" and the answer has gone from "what hole?" to "I'll get a net".
  16. Now did i say that? I don't really know these guys, and only met them after asking if i could watch their dogs work as i thought the x sounded interesting. I was impressed enough. These lads put more work in front of their dogs than nearly anyone i have met. I never commented on anyone else or anyone elses dogs. I just think that many folk on here have kind of missed the point a little . . . .
  17. Some of the posts on here are pretty funny. A lot of folk can't see the wood for the trees can they.
  18. Used to use gun dogs to mark, but then they would just sit there at attention during the actual ferreting and not budge a muscle if a rabbit skipped the net. Can't imagine watching a spaniel/lab chase a bunny and not be wanting to shoot it. Most terriers and lurchers will mark warrens if given enough exposure. We use a whippet, a collie x and a bull/whip/grey/beddy lurcher and all three do it.
  19. Haha Rob, you are a nutter mate, just spat some pasta across my desk! I must admt i do look a bit strange most of the time, and in that photo i ain't even wearing my chaps haha. With regard to the dogs, it's a good combination. Last season we worked Gem and Finn together a lot on big mountainside daytime, and ferreting, a lot of the time he would range off and find game with his nose and then get it moving with some raw pace, and Gem would end up watching him, using her brain and then positioning herself for the catch. She runs very clever, but also as Johnnyboy said, she has great pace ov
  20. Alright alright so the hats a bit gay, it was raining! Rob - it's a funny one the speed thing. I would say that reaction wise around a bolt, at the moment Gem is quicker off the mark, due to her experiance, but when it comes to flat out speed over short and middle distance, finn is faster i would say, and then if you took it over say a mile of running, then Gem would be faster due to her stamina. Perhaps?
  21. Well done mate, a credit to you as always.
