  1. I've noticed I often get pretty much on top of the rabbits when driving in the dusk, closer than I get on foot, or in a truck. You're right about access, but i've got some bits of land which I can use the quad on happily, and are designed to be driven around.
  2. Do you do it much mate? How do you find it? The truck lamping isnt really my thing, but it's a bit different off a quad, with the dog running beside, I think? I find it really handy in the day, especially with the wee hound, in bigger places.
  3. Aye, mine love all kinds of fish. . . what ever is going.
  4. From reading through the forum content I got that idea, but didnt think it would be THAT bad!! On a positive note they are having a members barbecue in august about 10 minutes from me, might take a batch of home made venison burgers with me....... Sounds like that BBQ could be fun . . . . . On the upside, I recently got a few bits of permission for the dogs, after knocking on doors, and finding the folk owned a (non-working) pet lurcher, and that they had fallen in love with running dogs as a result, and whilst unhappy about folk shooting stuff on their land, they were interes
  5. that would be pointless!!! deer are not designed to run long distances hence they never stroll far from cover.......... How much cover is in the Highlands? mountain regions are slighty different to field after field of flat open land Very true. . . . On a slight tangent. . . . something that i've noticed (I think). . . Is you seem to regularly see roe standing out feeding in the first light, right out in the middle of huge fields, yet don;t seem to see fallow in the same way. . . are they just smarter, more flighty? Or is it because they are in bigger groups,
  6. I'm pretty much addicted to this E.P, she is only 16. . . and such a talent!
  7. After the recent (lengthy) discussion about running dogs out of 4x4 vehicles, it got me thinking. Pretty much all of the talk was of jeeps/pick ups. . . which makes sense, when you are driving to your permission, and using the same vehicle to drive the land, or you are driving about poaching. But I was wondering if anyone runs their dog/s off a quad, or ATV, either on the lamp or in the day. I've been doing it a bit over the last several months, starting just for exercise, and the working them in the day off the quad, covering more ground, and keeping up with the hunt. Also, when exercisin
  8. I have noticed a similar trend. . . . lots of very anti-hunting folk. . . . rescuing hunting type dogs. . . .especially lurchers.

  10. I'd imagine. . . only if the deer tripped over the wolf hound and broke it's neck. . . .
  11. Time for a blast on the quad with the dogs!

She's beautiful. . . . . . . . . . . thank f**k she took after her mum Being fair though, your not a bad 'producer' mate. . . . . . and I think that the hybrid vigor has worked.. . . . these English have to be handy for something
  13. ........ I've gone up in the world . . . . .
  14. When you coming to see her butty............I won't feel happy bringing her home until she's been "blessed" When is good for you and Rach mate? I can come tomorrow or thurs? Wanted to come down today Shes cute
  15. She looks cracking mate, I can see the resemblance already . . . .
  16. Don't know if it's been said, but I reckon part of it is to do with the fact that a top dog can produce a lot more offspring (potentially good) in a life time, than a bitch can. However, it takes two good dogs to produce real good dogs, in any field I think . . . .
  17. How fantastic to read a post of someone that knows everything What you talking about? It's an everyday occurance on here!
  18. Aye, I think the name may be a little inspired by literature I love it, it's a beautiful name
  19. Johnnys already got two out of the three, and his veins are all good
  20. No . . . . . not that one . . . . I'd just like to offer massive congratulations to Johnnyboy and his misses, FerretGirl, on the birth of their daughter Arya. She came into the world this morning, and mother and baby are doing well. Really chuffed for you both, you deserve all the joy wee Arya brings, and she couldn't have better parents than you two. Or a better godfather!
  21. Live in the city, work as a solicitier, investment banker, lawyer etc. . . . . . Then move to the country, buy up a farm, to play about on, chop it up and sell it for horse paddocks, then sell off the old barns for barn conversions. . . . . . and moan until the local town gets a costa coffee, and a marks and spencers. . . . . I live in the country, and its falling apart because all of the rich tossers from the city want to move out here and play about. . . .
  22. Tell em to stay in fecking London. In fact. . . . tell all of the city folk to just stay fecking put!
  23. Suddenly we live in the land of everyone catching 50/60/70 rabbits a night, with half a dozen charlie, and half a dozen deer thrown in. . . . . . . . . . . I'm surprised we have any game left in the U.K.
  24. Im confused. I didn't really think that walking about a field on a slip, would make a dog fit? Surely if two dogs are out the same number of times a week and one is taken on foot, and the other driven. . . . . unless the foot man is lucky, the man in the vehicle, will get far more runs for his dog. . . . resulting, in a season, in a fitter and more tested dog? I thought that was the point? If you have permission to drive, and large areas to cover, I can fully understand why you'd do it. . . . . . If you are poaching and you drive the land. . . . you're pretty much a wanker, f
