Before Xmas i gave a church bloke who has a mobile soup kitchen a load of veg to feed the homeless a xmas dinner and i asked him if he could use rabbit meat as i have a freezer full but i could supply him fresh meat most weeks. To be honest i didnt think he would be interested as a lot of people dont eat rabbit these days i suppose i was being very naive as to the plight of the homeless as he was over the moon saying how the hot meal he provides could be the only one they get all week. i know a lot of people are on the street through their own weaknesses ie drink or drugs but who am i to j

Nice one WR did you get much today? We are out tomorrow, the snow came earlier turned to rain at tea time and is now in the process of freezing so it will be tricky getting to the bit we have in mind tomorrow

i have dug to a ferret using the locator to be down 4 foot only for the ferret to move and come out of the warren on its own volition. i know it can speed things up using a locator and i dont dispute they are handy just saying there are other options to consider and i would think long and hard about digging 8 foot + to a ferret i think i would wait a bit first

I have been ferreting for over 30 years and ive never lost a ferret and until sept i had never used a collar. i did so because i was borrowing a friends ferrets and his collars to do a job and yes they are useful but they arent neccessary. its probably down to a lack of experience on the young lads part and it is a shame i hope he gets it back and isnt put off by the experience. There are many tried and tested ways of getting ferrets back off a lie up make sure the ferrets are well fed and well handled when feeding whistle or squeak them in get them used to coming to you u

Accidents happen all the time mate dont feel bad. had my lot out this morning and i was stepping over a style when the little lurcher decides to go underneath it so down goes my foot with 18 stone on it onto a 22" bag of bones she nearly passed out and gave out such a scream i shit myself. she wasnt hurt luckily but my heart stopped for a second The pup will be right it just takes time

i put one out of a spinney behind my house and it was taller and longer than my labradoodle bitch and she is 23" it scarpered before the big dogs got there. i dont hunt fox i am a rabbit hunter but they are a bloody nuisance and have taken my chickens in broad daylight so if one gets killed i wont cry about it. that fox was a big bloody fox and if i had had my gun it would have had to go. The lad was out with the lamp around ours last night and said he saw more foxes than rabbits. the lads round here hammer the foxes and still they seem to be everywhere, they are one of natures survivors i

Lovely pics mate, i was born in chevington drift just down from red row, depends on how old you are if you will know it as it was open casted in the 80s. Still got friends and family up there and we still go to the beach at least once a month with the dogs plenty of rabbits up there they do go on the beach i have a big painting of that exact angle of sunrise of the bay. Too many people up there though these days its a bugger when people discover places

Great write up i look forward to seeing how this unusual x works out for you, i know for a fact that they will be useful as you put a lot of effort into your dogs but i wonder how you will rate them against past experiences and the more traditional crosses?

Well done and good luck to the babe and parents i like being a grandad much more than being a dad -
Darbo: i bought her as a 7 week old pup from a lad who followed sleights breeding, she is my dog but but we have a policy of sharing dogs in our house so the lad will use her for lamping when his dog is injured, secretely i think he prefers my dog to his seriously though she isnt an easy dog she is timid and aggressive because of it you can see it in her eyes when i put her on the table top she is un happy about it her ears are back and the eyes a bit starey. I have spent a lot of time training and socialising this little dog and i would think if a young lad or in experienced owner h

Dont f**k about mate get her to the vet, at 9 weeks they are babies and will go down hard if they dehydrate you could lose her if its parvo the sooner she is at the vet the better, i know its expensive but you have a duty of care to your pup. good luck

I always look like that mate im a f*****g horrible b*****d, every body hates me My little mags is a kelpie x grew she is about 20 months old and 22" to the shoulder game as a banty cock and i would reccomend the x for anyone wanting a good rabbit dog. very fast on the straight but has the turning circle of a double decker bus, The lad is at work tonight and he will have her out lamping for an hour when he comes in, he runs a saluki x normally but the big dog is cut at the minute. The lad raves about her speed but says she sounds like a pony running as she puts that much effort in

Set off before daybreak this morning, i had a little spot in mind at the back of a couple of fields is a steep bracken covered hill leading into a wood. During the summer the rabbits laugh at you as you walk down the field towards them as they disapear into thick cover. Got to the site and it was just light enough to net up, maggie had marked a warren of about 20 holes which used up pretty much all of my nets (I had hung up a load of nets last time out and just grabbed the bag with what was left)i used the old silver and the young albino hob who is getting that big i can hardly get my hand

i looked at that link for angora ferrets mine must all be angoras cos they have coats like bears at the minute if anyone wants to give me 300 euro each i will happily oblige but it will be hard parting with fluffy, vincent, wilma and splodge as they have just mastered painting and decorating and vincent is a handy plasterer

i work moors like that up here during the grouse season, the weather changes quick up there it looked a cold wet day

Mate if you were a bit closer you could have come out with me. Try getting him retrieving fur dummies on the lamp and then just get him out and try and get him onto a clapped rabbit so he can follow it on the beam easily, he hasnt clicked in his head yet that this is another form of hunting

Welcome mate, however be warned we have had some rubbish weather, xmas good cheer is running low, everyone has fallen out with their partners wives etc. So the natural place to be is on a computer full of hate and bitterness....... If its not too foggy get the lamp out lad and do a bit

whats that green stuff the dogs are standing on!! They have started filming the new episode of ice road truckers up here today

They are bonny little things are they just like a ferret in ability and handling training? as an experiment i would pay £30 for one just to see how it goes, if you have a fancy to do something you should go and do it lifes too short to let a few quid get in the way. £30 quid is only half a night out when one of them little things will be with you for years and give you no end of pleasure

Bonny little dogs mate how are they bred?

Spot on mate true spirit of Christmas there, good luck for the new year and thanks for taking the time to brighten up the day

Although i dont have fish we lost over 30 frogs last year i think the cold weather just went on and on and on, i try to keep the pond ice broken but life gets in the way sometimes i forget. its a shame as i like the old frogs in the garden it keeps the slugs down and as im a gardener by trade i like a well kept garden and i collect herbacious perennials its a symbiotic relationship. Hope the fish make it mate

I have 3 jills and a huge hob in a 8'x4' partially covered court with a terrier dog kennel as their sleeping box, i just stuff the kennel full of hay and they all live very happily occasionally the older jill will fill up one of the play pipes with hay and live in that as if she is sick of the kids and needs a bit of peace and quiet:D
