  1. cant see enough of ferret kits i luv em
  2. any dog can mark a set and any lurcher can be a good help around a warren ive seen big lurchers and little ones do equally as well, it just takes time and patience to train a good ferreting dog.
  3. You have nothing to worry about mate i would rather have a submissive dog than an aggressive dog. couple of storys Had a 3/4 collie/grey called gin who was a lovely bitch around other dogs but would turn tail an run at the first sign of trouble. One day the local corner shop guy who had a beautiful german shepherd bumped into us on a woodland walk both dogs off the lead, shepherd growls and takes off after gin they run over a field through a hedge squeal of brakes end result shepherd dead car damaged and 1 lucky gin sat on the doorstep waiting for me. So just take care I once owned ve
  4. got her back from my mates horse farm and took her out again and she dissapeared in an old set on another friends farm up thge dale she hasnt been seen since. After years of ferreting without collars etc i swore i would never ferret without one again. I get attached to the smellys
  5. i went 2 years ago and it wasnt that good a bit disorganised but i will go this year for a look and its up the road from me
  6. now then John, that little jill i got off Trev (The biter) got her tamed down and put them back into the big court and she got out of a hole about an inch wide that i hadnt noticed. i had been resting some slabs against the netting and it stretched the wire she was tiny but i couldnt believe she had got out as she was pregnant, im only pleased she didnt get into my hens! Alan mate i will let you know if i dont get sorted before then ta
  7. I need two.Im down to one hob since my pregnant jill escaped, built a new court and its decidedly empty with just big trevor running through it. i like albinos but colour isnt really important, and im not bothered about what sex they are. Cheers Keith
  8. i am a very quick tempered person and lived a bit of a violent life when i was a youngster but realised i couldnt expect to control a dog if i couldnt control myself. i can honestly say every time ive struck a dog has been a very sad day and it has always set back their training. So i try not to raise my hand if possible i never used to play with my dogs either thinking it was a bit soft, but i guess thats what being young is about making mistakes as long as you learn
  9. bet you cant wait to put a good bull x over her
  10. you will roe the day you started this!!
  11. My little kelpie x grew decided not to chase a hare, i use her only for ferreting and she had never seen a hare before, one trotted out in front of her she took off with it but caught the scent and realised it wasnt a giant bunny so went back to marking warrens as if nothing had happened
  12. dont worry about conditioning untill she is over 18 months, you can start increasing her exercise at 10 months but she is a baby until 12 months exercise her brain and get the early training in. too many people damage their dogs by doing too much physical work at a young age. have fun with your pup
  13. you have done your homework in selecting your pup. Enjoy every minute, yes they are a bit of a different x temperament wise but they will work and work for you and by god they are a non stop type of dog. Started working with a gsp pup and its owner getting the pup on the whistle. Took mags out with the guy just for a walk on sat morning and she had the whistle commands down pat in an hour, re call, sit and change of direction. Well done Tomo Im always here if you need any help and i look forward to the stories of her growing up
  14. i only ferret these days and its only a hobby so during the season i only use 1 dog but she picked up a few tears last year and with bad weather and then she had a season it was frustrating at times and my lads big dog picked up a horrific injury at the back end. so i can see why lads have a few dogs but anymore than 2 and 1 would be getting left behind every other weekend under normal circumstances
  15. doesnt take much bird with big dominant breeds and the end results are disastrous. but then again a greyhound kennel fight is f*****g terrible to behold. dogs packs are by nature fluid and your right nothing is ever 100%
  16. Socks has got it, your dog has been bred to be as he is. keep him fit and fed and enjoy your time together
  17. flatten both of them at the same time and dont let either up until they submit entirely. i would never kennel them together because you will end up with a dead dog. you must be the absolute top dog and be on top of the aggressor in a heartbeat the dog whisperer does it with a hard touch i would bully the pup or the older dog until they get the message. We home board dogs and they must bond with our pack. Our big dog runs to us the minute he is being pressurised by a new visitor. that dog then gets dropped and shown his place. im the gaffer in my pack i dont put up with bolshy behaviour and in
  18. i use chappie dry dog food and to be honest my dogs are spot on. ive tried them all and ive not found better. easily digestible and they seem to thrive on it.
  19. all of my dogs run beside the bike i dont usually start until thgey are at least 10 months old and for the first couple of months only a mile or so. Smaller whippet crosses or most longdogs usually mature physically quicker but bull or deerhounds shouldnt be pushed the deeround is a massive breed and needs to grow out of its bone before you start with conditioning. I would work up slowly to about five miles at the age of 2 i have found that going further doesnt add a lot to conditioning. More importantly for younger dogs is to run free through big fields, woodland and beaches they encounter
  20. i dont mind them,We have one not far from us and i tried it but my dog wont show she tried to bite the judge but it was good crack on a nice day for an hour or so. It means bugger all to me but some people are addicted travelling from show to show. Its a slippery slope for working breeds just look what shows did to the bulldog!!
  21. i cant get our two to chase a lure i wish they would just for the crack!!
  22. Only too happy to show off Maggie everybody else is bored with my ranting but your new so you dont know any better . Maggie 1st x kelpie/grew there is loads of posts on here about her growing up
  23. she could be ill which would might bring her out of season or do ferrets go through a menopause???
  24. cracking pic this was yesterday, i know its a bit out of focus but its a great action shot swimming with her big mate she isnt elegant in the water The big dog is a french beauceron a very powerful formidable dog if anyone needs to pull rhino down then this is the dog for you jacks big nose, i didnt breed her mate she was bred by a lad in Keighley a copy of the sleight breeding, i did try and keep in touch with him but he never replied so i dont know if he ever repeated the breeding. she was bred specifically for ferreting and what i saw of the litter there was not a cloddy pup amongs
