  2. Yeah it's funny that most everyone i know is in to fishing yet i never took up coarse fishing, tried other types of fishing, carp, trout, rocks and sea fishing but somehow coarse fishing was tbe main one, although i did a little bit when i was younger just never got into it proper(thiink i didn't want it to take up too much of my time perhaps)anyway like yourself i think i will buy myself some gear and see what happens(lol the missus is gonna love me now, another hobby yet again)good luck with your fishing tb25 and as they say in fishing land,'tight lines', Higgins
  3. Nice fish for your first catch pal .Been thinking about starting fishing myself, have seen some fishing gear in Aldi so may have a look. What made you take up fishing then, soenthing to do through summer while waitingb for hunting season? Higgins.
  4. Don't forget to post the compulsory pictures of the finished kennels,we all need some inspiration from you Mush! Higgins.
  5. Had a couple of nasty accidents when i had lurchers,a bitch was out running hares in some long rough grass one night when she impaled hersel on a reinforced concrete rod left by builders sticking out of the ground, went in her chest just missing her heart, had to pull her off and carry her home a mile away, took her to vets, after treatment she recovered well enough to run again.Another lurcher of mine jumped a six foot spiked railing from too far away while chasing his rabbit,as he was coming down on other side spike went inside his leg and he was hanging upside down till i pulled him off,he wou
  6. Something like Cuprinol or Ronseal, anything you would buy for sheds and fencing, Higgins.
  7. Mush i wouldnb't use creosote, just buy the cedar red fencing stuff,i've a ferret court been treated with it and it has withstood all the wet weather and snow we've had last couple of years and will look good too, Higgins
  8. have you checked the dogs home, police and other rescue charities? These places should be checked every day in case someone hands the dog in as well as looking in area dog dissapeared in,hope you find the dog, Higgins
  9. been to this one a few times a good few years back, not been going any shows lately,i tend to stay away more now,the days of attending dog shows is fraught with danger,it's a shame but that's the way it goes.I won't take a dog with me if i do manage a day out at one,who can you trust at one today? Higgins.
  10. Is anyone else experiencing slow connection speeds for THL,it just seems to be this site anything else comes up fast.... Higgins.
  11. Could be,i think earth has the right one but the name doesn't seem right,i think he could be derek hobson, check it out, Higgins.
  12. Best thing to do is find a picture or photo of a terrier working convert it into a line drawing and get a stencil for tattooing made.A pal of mine had an underground scene from a well known print, the one with tree roots showing etc;looks great, not had any tattoos done myself but if was to have a tattoo it would have to be a terrier working or not, Higgins.
  13. LOL, sorry mate found those pics so funny just had to post them on here,no reference to stag do's, but hope your's ain't too bad, Higgins
  14. Just thought i'd put some pics up of pranks done to drunk people, pmsl at a lot of them and makes me think twice about getting drunk....
  15. it is possible a jill could die if left in season without being mated, but i have never personally expeienced it,the only thing i've come across is a stressed out or frustated jill rather and i've kept ferrets for a long time.In my experience as long as the hutch was kept clean and you kept an eye on the jills vulva region for any early sign of infection, then it could be treated as soon as possible.I have 5 jills now all in season in a large court and all appear okay(may take some pics tomorrow to show condition),only two of these jills had previously been mated(the other three are some of last
  16. Well there is a recession on,but they were 'at it'before the recession,at the end of the day they are running a 'profitable' business, nothing to do with caring etc; They are skilled in what they do but choose to abuse your trust,it's probably a long shot but if that was me i would be questioning their diagnosis and try to reclaim some of the money back(£110 for an injection, wow, what was that stuff?),your cat is living proof they tried to rip you off, either that or the cat still had a few lives left, Higgins.
  17. Yes have seen that a lot recently,is that due to greyhound charities etc;?
  18. just read a topic whereby someone has incurred a huge vets bill, and although people have suggessted put the animal down, they have declined. My question is would you only go throughb the expensive option of having surgery if you had the money or if you was attached to the animal(close bond) and you had no money would you still opt for expensive treatment? 19. Just one of my many fleeting thoughts is the fact that we owe a great deal to the humble greyhound breed,as a base for breeding the many lurcher and terrier combinations,it's just a shame they are overlooked once they have been 'used' by so many, Higgins.
  20. good thread folks,i've not beem studying genetics for a while now but certaim points come back to me such as dominant v reccessive and polygenes etc;To simplify some of the terms used,Dominant means it will show and reccessive means hidden unless paired with another reccessive gene then it will show.Polygenes explain the diversity and varying size in many crosses, put simply they control many genetic variances from size to coat colour, long hair v short hair, rough v smooth etc;Only added this to the thread for the benefit of begginers to genetics,i would say it's a fascinating subject and well w

    ticks

Thbat's hbow i found this one on mine, went to grab him whilst playing with him and he winced and nearly bit me,i realised something was making his neck sore and tender,so i ran my fingers around his neck till i felt the bump which confirmed my suspicions.

    ticks

I discovered this critter on my terrier's neck and it well pissed me off,he caught this in the garden as i regularly let him sleep in the back garden so i presume that's where he caught it.Here's some pics for those whbo haven't yet encountered tick problems(also having read up on ticks they are best eradicated as soon as possible due to potentially lethal diseases to both humans and dogs).I took this fecker out with some fine tweezers on my second attempt, now need to use some preventative solution like frontline to avoid re-infestation,hope these pics will help someone identify what a tick lo
