  1. Best of luck mate... yep agree with above.Ignore the tossers on here and enjoy learning/sharing knowledge. Before you know it you will be one of the more experienced hunters and will be helping others. Incidentally, the tv here is always advertising outdoor holidays in N/Z and it sounds like a great plave to live. All the best Mooster.
  2. Never thought of that.I'll try them on my lot for a treat now and then. Thanks for the idea!
  3. Most of my pernission is bramble hedge. What I do is to clear the brambles with gardening gloves and a pair of secateers. Come back a week later to set up your nets without tangles everywhere.By then the bunnies have got used to the new environment. Good luck Mooster.
  4. I've used ny old kyak up here in Plymouth mate. Great fun and great for getting to inaccessible places up river for mullet. The only thing I've found is that you have to have everything closea at hand including bait, knife and tackle.
  5. Leave them for 24hrs without pampering them with food. They will chomp into the rabbit when they are hungry as others have already said. I always keep in mind those African wildlife documentaries.Ferrets are like lions and wild dogs in their feeding habits. They are not always successfull and have to go hungry sometimes so it is natural for them to have "lean" days. Stoats and weasels don't get a meal everyday do they? Mooster.
  6. Sounds like your parents have already warned you about the next 8-9 years of cleaning, buying food and bedding, handling daily, finding someone to do all this when you go away, want to go out with your mates etc etc etc....they live a long time mate so be very careful!!! Well done for seeking advice first though, maybe leave it for a bit and find someone who will let you borrow/look after their ferrets now and then. Good luck Mooster.
  7. What a load of old crap! I'm off! Ohh you're an "anti" oh well you're a hippy. Well at least my dad's bigger then yout dad. Well i'm a real hunter. Well i'm a more real hunter than you. No you're not yes I am ....look at me.blah blah blah. Time was, you could come on here and have a laugh or get some advice from Ditchshitter and co. BYE!
  8. Check out the recipes section on here mate.
  9. Try to find a copy of "pigeon shooting" by John Grey. It has instructions on making decoys from real pigeon carcasses which is very interesting. Or buy a few plastic ones and adapt them for your own needs (also described in his book). Or...cut the breast meat from any pigeons you have, freeze the body and use that. Old books on pigeon shooting can be found in antique book shops and are fascinating. Good luck . Mooster.
  10. Is this question being asked to show that ferreting kills protected animals indiscriminantely? Just a thought,so beware.
  11. yep, mine love it although it seems to make them have loose poop so try try in moderation first!
  12. I am so sick of these people. Can any normal Americans on here please say something to convince us that you are not all like that? I remember the first book I bought from a pet shop about keeping ferrets. It was clearly American and warned against feeding raw meat preferring dried food and ice cream! We love you guys but please tell us you are not all like that stupid tart feeding a red hot chilli to her ferret!
  13. I've got a copy of an old "countryman" magazine showing an even older bloke threading tobacco leaves onto a string for drying in the uk so it can be done. I'm a reformed smoker but would love to taste a roll up made from home grown bakki! Good luck.
  14. If you live anywhere near the coast and have never tried sea beet can I recomend you try it? When cooked it is just like slightly salted spinach with a lovely rich texture. I've been steaming it and freezing small batches for use in roasts etc. Has anyone tried alexander which is very common on the coast at this time of year? I've picked some but been put off by the strong smell. Regards.Mooster.
  15. Sounds good.will be trying this one with sone of the frozen rabbit i've got.Thanks.

  17. What an intro.................a change from the usual "hello,i'm interested in hunting"!!!!
  18. Bad news.I grew up around there and still live nearby but have not seen anything in the local news or papers. Publicity usually helps a lot with these sorts of incidents. Good luck.Mooster.
  19. I agree, came across it by accident whilst at home this afternoon.Very interesting.
  20. Too tight to buy one though wasn't he!!!!
  21. Thought so.......I'll get my coat!
  22. Well done Ian. There are some nasty individuals out there.
  23. I've also posted this question on wildfowling forum.... Now that the ferreting season is coming to an end I usually turn my attention to fishing as I live by the sea and enjoy spearfisning and sea fishing in the summer. I was out for a mooch on an isolated estuary today and whilst watching some mallard on the mud and some canada geese in a nearby field reminded me of something I have often wondered. Has anyone ever taken wildfowl by swimming underneath and pulling them down? I saw this in a film when I was a kid and have often wondered? Would be a real hunting experience, wetsuit, snorkel,m
  24. Hello folks. I'm normally over on the ferreting forum or general chat but have paid you guys a visit to ask about something to do with the taking of wildfowl without a gun. Well when I was a kid I remember seeing a film in which a prisoner of war on the run stayed alive by swimming amongst some mallards before pulling one underwater for the pot. I've read loads of old poachers memoirs about the taking of wildfowl with snares, traps etc but am wondering if a duck or goose has ever been taken by a modern day hunter wearing a wetsuit, maybe with his head concealed with foliage? .....or have I j
