  1. this is another from the same month , i had quite a few rats that year it was just after a bad dose of dixi
  2. i had two rats tails in the traps this morning , the traps were set for rabbits but the rats had moved in , funny enough i was talking about this yesterday , imbra and juby traps seem to toss the rat through jaws and catch them by the tail whitch they then bite off , i never got a picture this morning so here is one i took a couple of years ago
  3. Nice to see something different mate ,how do you catch the turtles and how do you cook them.?
  4. Thats a lot of traps , what do you set them for rats , rabbits , squirrels ? put some pictures up as you seem to have more fire power than the lads on the western front.
  5. Melton is good , always plenty in at good prices. MELTON MOWBRAY 20 DECEMBER 9AM .
  6. very nice bitch ,a good companion whether snaring ,ferreting or shooting.
  7. Most people who shoot seem to skin their birds now days , i never do ,i prefer to pluck as you get a lot more from a bird ,years ago a pheasant would feed a family of four and the bones, gibblets and neck form the basis of a stew , i get a lot of birds nowdays and my wife makes roasts ,terrines, pate , and consomme does anyone else use the entire carcass .
  8. Tripped a couple up on the headland and as i was walking back a rabbit jumped out of a tussock straight into the bitches mouth ,she dropped it instantly and laid down, if i have a rabbit in a snare or trap she jst lies down in front of them till i have dealt with them then gets up and has a sniff.
  9. exactly the same mate. If they have been dead for some time start at the crop and work slowly down the breast and don'tpull to many feathers off at a time then then the rest is easy
  10. i like to freeze at this time of the year, the young birds are plump with plenty of fat and are very good roasted.
  11. they had a shoot on the land next to where i set snares for rabbits , this morning the dog picked one up in the kale and i had anotherone in a fence wire , both had been pricked .
  12. Mam always dry salted the shallots and left them dairy cheese room [cold and dark] for two days, they were then put into two one gallon pickle jars . The previous years pickling liquor was used to boil the boxing day gammon and also used it to make a tomato sauce which we had on our Saturday herrings
  13. Not the best weather for snaring but i got lucky and pulled a couple up.
  14. [/uR L] thought i might have a few more but the fog put paid to that

  17. i watched a rabbit hop into a set where i had some Juby traps there was barely a twitch and it was dead another time i was driving through a place called Burton Coggles where i saw a rabbit run at full pelt into a snare ,it was pulled up very sharp but not injured
  18. i have had half a dozen wires i n a field at the rear of my neighbours house , they were set around some reed beds at the bottom of a large bank, when i got to the field my dog put a rabbit out of the hedge which took of for home, it was running straight at the snares and sure enough it got pulled up with a jerk ,it was still squealing as i walked up but when i got there there was no sign of a rabbit and the snare was pulled tight, the dog worked the reed bed and put two rabbits up which ran into the bank , mystery or what
