  1. hi folks...i was recently given an old air arms side lever air rifle (22)...its very tatty, was sprayed with grey/silver paint and has quite a bit of surface rust (all fixable)....now one morning i woke blurry eyed and thought id have a look at this thing and see if it does still work...i cocked the lever and dry fired it..sounded absolutely fine to me.....what i didnt realise was that the lever arm had come out of the slot/housing....the ram/piston is now wedged too far into the gun..(hope that makes sense)the ram/piston (presuming thats what its called) has now obviously obstructed the part w
  2. thanks fella, very helpfull,it seems its quite an average gun then, altho it is pretty worn and could do with a clean up or service i reckon maybe worth a few hundred tops....its similar to the link at the bottom of your reply but not with the fancy inlay.
  3. hi guys, i have recently been given a shotgun, its been in my family a fair while but originall belonged to my uncle,my good friend has just handed it back to me....we spoke about the value (if any)of the gun,he took it to a few shops but we all know they aint gonna offer full whack, this gun is not for sale but i was just curious if it did hold any value other than sentimental. its a 20 bore belgium game gun engravings as follows underside it has "jos defourny....fabricant a.herstal belgique" behind the trigger is the number 9699 (i presume serial no)? on the top of the barrels (its a si
  4. hi folks,i have been recently granted my shotgun ticket,i have been handed down a gun which belonged to my uncle....its an old belgium game gun i believe, and is 20 bore...i intend to start clay pidgeon shooting next weekend to get some practice for rough shooting,im looking for a cheap all round cartridge i guess..,money is tight, not too fussed what i use for clay shooting but would prefer a slightly better quality one for out in the field if necassary...i would appreciate your experienced advice please guys, i dont have much of a clue at the moment,i dont mind buying bulk..maybe you could a
  5. im fortunate enough to have many friends who help run the landrover offroading club down here so im always asking for advise about various 4x4s....basically,my knowledge of an engine is very limited, and they know this, so everytime i see a nice old landie and ask thier advise, the answer is always the same......DONT BUY IT....all the guys i know are constantly in the garage or on thier driveways repairing and fixing thier beat up old landies, but they love it, and do have a very good knowledge of engines, but, they do all have 2nd cars so they can get to work everyday.now this may make you laugh
  6. everythin would be made to exceptional standards, wether it be toughened bullet proof glass,or even fire proof metal...imagine your house burned down.....would be nice to know your guns are still intact
  7. yeah tht was what i was kinda thinking, but then also wondered what the thing is with glass fronted diplay cabinets??.....im not sure what the law is on them...are they just for displaying defunct guns?
  8. i was hoping some of you shotgun/rifle owners can help me a bit a here.i have just got granted my sgc and was talking to my friend who is a traditional blacksmith about possibly building me a new cabinet....this got him thinking if perhaps this is something he could do as a sideline offering a bespoke service building specialist cabinets and storage safes etc....we are not talking run of the mill filing cabinet types..he is thinking along the lines of a high quality polished stainless steel with lots of ornate metal work/designs to make them look really different and special. what im asking y
  9. many thanks guys....ill check the diet out,in mean time ill try the baby/camrosa oil and see what happens, keep u posted on progress for future reference.appreciate your responces.
  10. thanks guys..the vet used an ultra violet light over my dogs skin and found no trace of any mites whatsoever......
  11. wondered if any guys on here could advise.my 2 yr old plummer has recently started losing hair from his ears.the missus took it to the vets and they said they couldnt fathom it out, no ear mites, mange or anything else..........i thought it may be the missus little yorkie cross tearing it out coz they always play fight but not convinced, he hasnt been worked for ages due to my workload so dont think hes picked up any mites or owt....today i could literally just lightly tug on a few hairs and they come out with no resistance, almost like alopecia or something......starting to look unsightly now
  12. Thanks guys, will update profile bit later, im actually based in the south west near bath if that helps????
  13. hi guys, looks like my s,g,t will soon be here, had the visit from the officer and she hinted that i may aswell start shopping for a cabinet....i have no idea where to start looking (apart from the obvious gunshop)....i am on an extremely tight budget due to a crippling mortgage,i have a 20 bore gamegun lined up which is being handed down to me,i will need a 12bore and also a airrifle ,i reckon a 4 gun cabinet would be a safe bet....can anyone advise on where to to start looking, what sort of money im going to have to part with for a 2nd hand one?..maybe someone here has an old one for sale??.
  14. thanks again mate, thats very helpful, hes a bright dog,im sure he will pick it up,i just want to make sure hes right for the job and also that he's safe,i have witnessed a dog that was a bit stubborn on recall and it nearly got shot due to it going too far ahead in the bush.
  15. thanks waidmann, sound advice....he will chase a ball,i normally use a golf ball and he will chase it for hrs,he is sometimes a little reluctant to bring it back but im confident i can teach him that much..do u suggest a small treat on return?bit of praise obviously?he is quite obsessed with sticks but a loud NO from me stops that, he will go in bush and root about but he has no idea what hes looking for,i guess time is what i lack the most hence my thought on a training school or similar but im guessing that could be very expensive, but, i was hoping it would at least get him going on the righ
  16. think the missus would turn the gun on me if i brought another dog home....whats a jagd anyhow?
  17. hi guys....im expecting a visit from the plod very soon as ive applied for shotgun ticket, its been about 5weeks and i aint heard anything yet but theyve cashed the cheque so i hope its soon, really excited about this now.....anyhow,i have permission on 500acre farm land and also a nice bit of woodland....i have a 2 yr old plummer terrier, great little dog but has no experience working other than a ffew good ratting days...is it feesable to train this dog for rough shooting/bushing myself...? i have no idea where to start, i thought about maybe sending him to a gundog school/camp or whatever u c
  18. Comanche.............dont suppose you wanna flog me them roof bars off your vitara.....?.....if not could you tell me where you got them and how much u paid...cheers dude.
  19. your dogs a dried up old lesbian...........trade her in for a ripe juicy bitch
  20. agreed...hot salt water dabbed on with some tissue works fine....they heal pretty fast,my pups 1st bite was a big gash and healed within 5 days to a nice crust.
  21. agree with BBB....no good on a lead, but try the small shed scenario 1st then see how it goes, it dont really matter too much about age with ratting but they do get bored and preoccupied,if you are fortunate to get a bumper rat where there are shiteloads of the things running everywhere then let him go and im sure hell pick it up real quick......the live trapped ones get them used to the smell and fast movement helps them hone thier senses a little quicker.youll be fine mate, most dogs take to it real quick.
  22. another vote for a trapped one first mate, brilliant way of intrducing them, they will get bored and preoccupied too soon at that age mate, trap a live one and put them together in a shed or somewhere the rat cant get out and see what happens.
  23. you bloody northeners will rob yer fekkin granny.
  24. your in luck scottslass,we own both, my missus has the freelander and i have the old suzuki vitara....my missus dont go offroad much but we live in the sticks in a village...her motor will go almost anywhere,i bombed round a field in it once and it handles very well,u have the incline trigger which is great for v steep hiils, its great on deisel, auto traction.permanantly in 4x4 i think and still cheap on fuel, only prob with it is if u dent it too much its gonna cost u to fix, lots of room in boot....personally tho,i think they are are not really suited to hammering around fields all week,i dont
  25. hot salt water make sure its properly dilluted.....if the wound is bleeding heavy then clot it with some ground up eggshell.....i learnt that from a an old hippy woman that was into alternative treatments for dogs, she advised me to take a little pot (i used an old camera film pot) whenever i was out with the dog, just grind the shell up with a pessel n mortar and away ya go,it just jams up the wound and soaks in all the blood and almost instantly clots stemming blood flow.
