Been reading this thread with interest. I ve kept both crosses and found the collie cross very easy to train great feet and better stamina than the bull cross. Saying that I switched from the collie cross to the bull cross about 15 years ago . I found the bull cross tried 100 % on every run and did nt have as good feet but would run regardless . They were a totally different animal bred for different jobs. I preferred the three quarter greyhound quarter collie but they did nt compare to the bull cross for Reynard . I'm talking regular night and day. But the bull cross was never as good on hare

We all have our own opinion but a 7 or 8 yr old dog or bitch has done 5 to 6 seasons work so at that age should be in its prime. I think a lot of dogs are used to stud way to early thus producing some of the shit that's about. Only my opinion though. -

i can t find what I m looking for that's why I was considering the mating. As quoted earlier the bitch is nt how you would picture her at all. And I ve never left pups on a bitch any where near 8 weeks -
I often lamp alone and had walked a few fields one night and had stopped for a smoke. as I started rolling I heard a loud scream then a pain in my hand followed by legs like lead. The dog had had sniffed the electric fence which my mate was running off the mains for the cattle.i d got the the shock cos I had him on a length of cord and the b*****d had bit me as well. And I d thrown a full pouch of golden Virginia up in the air

Half Cross To Half Cross Advice Wanted.

That's a nice pup stud dog. He s very similar to both the dog and bitch in build. I wanted the pups racier than the parents. I know I could breed racier using a different dog or bitch but I know both these dogs inside out and both are steady honest grafters . I ve used some well known dogs over the bitch to throw racier pups but they don't suit me. Bit to much keen ness and less brain -

Hello all.I don t post on here often but wanted some genuine advice.I have a half cross bull greyhound from good lines .He s getting on now at around 10 yr old but still working.I also put a good half cross bitch out with a good friend and she is a bit older than the dog.I ve noticed the old boy slowing down now and need a pup in.i ve owned and worked dog and bitch and they are spot on apart from the bitch always lacked that extra bit of pace when needed.the bitch stands 23 and the dog 24.Would the second generation throw any rangier and houndy? Was considering a three quarter bred on the bitch

could nt be more true. just stick to one or two close friends and most of all enjoy the day out with your dogs. in time you ll be your own dogs critic and will know how and when theyre working. as you say she s young and they re not machines they all have off days. stick with it mate and take all the story s with a pinch of salt

f*****g HELL!! And they say vets do their job because the love to help!! hahaha Do you not mean they love the f*****g money!` i know lol.the jab costs around 6 quid. but because i took her in and they x rayed her and jabbed her i was nobbled for £150 and was in and out in 15 mins.they ve got you by the bollocks in situations like this.he prescribed diazapam first to sedate her a bit. but i would nt have any of it. it would pass to the pups and make them drowsy and not want to feed and she would nt be able to stimulate to piss.after i told him this he said maybe your right. i have compla

my 5/8 x 3/8 is 8 or more now and he ll still run behind the quad all day when following the hounds or will lamp or still work with the terriers. i think as long as they ve been kept fit they ll still perform in later years for you.
-
thats right but it s hard to get hold of it now think it was called collo cal or something similar Collo cal D, a good vet should prescribe it before whelping to a known bitch they said they have nt used it in a couple of years so don t stock it. it would have taken a few days to come in. the vet which i normally deal with would have been down my house in ten mins and jabbed her. i did comment to the vet when she came into the surgery about not wanting to get her arse out of bed but she said there was no need as the bitch had been removed at that time . i won t write what my reply was
-
yes it can be given after whelping or as someone said earlier you could give it orally. but giving it to the lead up to the birth can cause eclampsia so its just wait and watch the bitch after she s given birth. sometimes it can be up to a week after.it put s you on edge afterwards and i watched her for a week afterwards every 2 hours cos she still had a little grumble which was probably nothing but i aint losing no more . it was a mating off my old dog and there s only 1 dog pup left and its a dog i want to keep back. the cow killed the one i liked lol shit happens i suppose.i ll be glad when

cheers bud its only cos i ve experienced it before . it s just a heads up to anyone else so they can nip it in the bud without losing the lot
-
cheers think ive turned the corner now they re fat as ticks and doing well
-
no . but i know its more common in the english bull
-
it s quite common in bull breeds and they will kill and sometimes eat the pups. i ve known it when a bitch has previously raised a litter fine then a few years down the line another litter she has suffered from eclampsia and turned on the pups.as i said after the jab she feeds and cleans the pups fine.it s quite common in eclampsia for a bitch to try to kill her pups then be returned to them after being treated.i ve experienced it before but the signs were more obvious then
-
i still supervise her feeds but the other five are doing real well. this condition is called eclampsia or milk fever and should be watched for early on in labour. i ve experienced it before but she never really showed the symptons that strongly. the bitch will be anxious ,be warm to touch , panting excessively and quite glassy eyed. if untreated the bitch will fit and eventually die.
