  2. Heres a pic of one of the 3 carp i caught on monday night out with stu, not the biggest but hey, it was a fish on a very hard 24hr session. Crap easterly wind with plenty of rain and not many bites
  3. Oh well mate we tryed. the weather was lousey, rain and a strong east wind but at least we caught. On home made boilies as well, cant be bad
  4. Its not just Phil who gets to be on the recieving end of snaremans Knowledge and kind heart. Just look at what he has put into this site as a whole, you cant buy knowledge like that. I for one have benifited from his efforts both in what i have read on here but also due to the phone conversations. top man by a long chalk
  5. I think the best bit of advice i can give you is have a good think about the land you want to work. What i meen is this. If your only going to net a small warren whilst ferreting then theres no point in buying hundreds of yrds of netting when a pair of short 25yrds will do the job. same as if your wanting to work a large woodside edge at night then 2x 25yrds of netting will be a bit of a waste of time, imo so like ive said, firstly have a good think about your needs
  6. Ive just seen this post, At a guess i would have thought a few things such as twine diameter, cored or coreless would all dictate how much twine you get for a 1kg spool, just a thought
  7. Hello Mapreader, i thought like me, you to had fallen off the face of the earth, hope your all well and ready for this coming season. I suppose a net of 12 mesh deep is shallow compared to a net of 14 0r 16 meshes, but then as you and i know, a setting height of say 18-20 inch isnt that high compaered to some netters prefered heights. Then again as i have found out whilst in conversation with both you and other netters, we all have our prefered ways of doing things and gaining advice, no matter how much we think we know is always a goood thing. Best i give you a call soon and catch up with y
  8. will, if you go onto my site www.thenetloft.net and email me i can return all the info your after as well as a good price Im sorry i dont post prices on the open forum as most seem to get a deal off me price wise anyway. Also I try not to upset any sponsors of The Hunting Life that have paid to advertise on here
  9. I have had many of the HW range of rifles and would say that if you ask around £150 for it thats not over priced, good luck with the sale
  10. Too true This is one thing i have always said about the basket system. With the running lines being tied direct to the poles and in most cases both being held at the same tension, on un-even groud there will be places where the footline (bottom line) will stand clear of the ground. Of course this can be put right by adding a peg. This would meen carrying more gear and more time spent adding the new peg. So with this in mind you are in fact slowing yourself down whilst setting, something at night that you dont realy want, ferreting it wouldnt matter. Where as on the trad set way of setting
  11. maybe, maybe not. i never expect a bumper catch but i always set my nets with ppegs at 5yrds, or as close as i can in the pitch black. now to catch a bumper catch , NOW THAT WOULD BE NICE, WOULDNT IT?
  12. dont want to insult you by offering peanuts for it, but what i would say is if you remove the bits of camo tape and remove the residue left behind, give it a good oiling and polish you will then get its true value
  13. As we have said in the past tomo, its a personal thing like most things in the sports. As long as the mechanics of the net are right you can play with the way its set to a certain degree
  14. WHAT IM ABOUT TO SAY IS PURELY MY OPINIONS, BASED ON MY EXPERIANCE OF USING LONG NETS. It is my opinion most folk using the basket type set up will use fewwer poles because of the setting height of their nets, in my opinion to high. With the setting height being around 36inch (guessed at after looking at pics on here and in magazines) the distance between each pole will be greater as the sag in the top line will be negated over this length. Now if like me you use the trad style of nets you will proberbly like me have a setting height of around 18-22inch, so the top line is closer to t
  15. they look the part maty i tend to use the rule of thumb regarding home mades and its far removed from what many have to say on the subject. To this i say i cant be doing to much wrong to be catching virgin carp from the rivers. My rule of thumb is you have to roads to which you can go down, strong in smell and short in life, or mild in smell and catches well. Ive come to the conclusion that a strong smelling carp may catch but its catching life is short lived where as a mild smelling boilie will catch over a longer period. I always feel if it smells strong to me it may spook the fish unt
  16. I wouldnt trust a single sheet bend on any size of Z twine, a carrock bend would hold though
  17. Copied this from a news site Ultimate Fighting Championship star Evan Tanner has died in the desert east of San Diego, possibly of heat exposure. Shocking sports deaths Sports often give us our greatest moments of ecstasy. Sometimes they plunge us into tragedy. We pay tribute to the untimely deaths that stunned the sports world. Photos: Evan Tanner 1971-2008 Sheriff's Lt. George Moreno says the 37-year-old Tanner was found Monday about two miles from his campsite in a remote area of the Palo Verdes Mountains, where temperatures had reached 110 degrees. Moreno says a preliminary cor
