Me and a pal once went door knocking for deerstalking permission. We saw a Roe buck on this ground so decided to go and ask. At the top of this drive was a sign saying, private, please contact the number before preceeding. So we called the number and told the lady what we were doing and she rplied. "I have no deer on my ground", "well, i said, if that field next to the apple orchard is yours then there is a roe buck standing in it now". "Yes that is my field, but i don`t want them shooting cos we like to see them". Why the silly cow didn`t say that in the first place is beyond me. But it

Look for their flightline and get under it. As has been said, not a lot of point decoying as they are fattening up on berries, acorns, and cloverleaf. Pigeons are flocking together this time of year so sit and watch for a while to see where they are flighting. Good luck fozzy

Firstly, have you got a deerstalking rifle and have you had any experience at all with deer.? Look at some ads in the many forums, here and SD site are a couple to look at for availability in your area. You want to be looking at between £60- per stalk depending on species of deer. Don`t be falling for the cull fee on top of the stalking fee for does and hinds that seem to be cropping up lately. . If you shoot something, you may get offered the chance to buy the carcasse, usually at gamedealer prices, in the region of 80p-£1.00 per pound. Go with an open mind as there is no guarente

It is pricey mate, especially for does. Anyone who`s prepared to travel, (it generally goes with the territory as stalkers anyway) can pick up Sika hinds and stags and Red hinds and stag stalking at £50 per DAY, not per stalk, per DAY. They`re the kind of deals stalkers like. To me, you don`t want to be charging any more than £60 per stalk as there is lots of people offering that price, on all species too. Just my tuppence worth. fozzy

Watchman is right mate. When you get a driven bird you need to get the bead at the end of the gun under the bird then pull through it and block it out. By doing this you are pointing the barrels straight at the bird rather than the bead cos if you point the bead at it you will shoot under it. Try this test. Put a mark on a board,(somewhere where it is safe to do so)and at the same distance that you are shooting pigeons at, say 15-20 yards, point the bead at the mark and shoot. You will see that most of the pellets will have shot under the mark. Now make another mark and repeat the same but put

Can`t really see the problem depending on the size of the garden and so long as there is a safe backstop to use. I used to shoot foxes on a turkey farm on the border of Derbyshire near Totley golf course without a problem using a .22 rimmy. That place was surrounded by a housing estate. fozzy

Hi, I'm not sure Thetford has CWD of Sika. I have spent a good while down there and never seen any. However the amount of roe was crazy, 16 in one field. What i did find interesting is that the bucks never seemed to carry decent antlers, in spite of the fields being choc-full of sugarbeat and other such goodies. The roe had bad tick problems too. That said, i know that theres CWD on the coastal areas of Norfolk. Parts of Cambridgeshire has some great deer, as does Bedfordshire too, but i cannot think, off hand, of any county with all 6 species in it. But i will stand corrected. Great

I`ve had many strikes at my deeks over the years, mainly from Sparrowhawks. One of the last times a Sparrowhawk dived down and snatched a freshly shot pigeon, took off with it and landed further down the field. Later on i had to retrieve a woody from that area, from under a tree, and found the pigeon that the Sparrowhawk had taken. It had plucked it and taken the breast meat off it. I don`t mind them taking the odd pigeon off me, it`s a great scene to witness. Fozzy

Hello James. Get yourself some cammo netting from an army stores, some straight pieces of hazel branch and some shell or full bodied decoys, start with about a dozen and if you can go to it money wise, a flapper. This will be the cheapest way to start out and the best thing is, it all works as well as having all the expensive stuff like a pigeon magnet, proper hide poles and those felt deeks. I`ve used this set up for over 20+ years and it works as good as owt else. Even better is when your farm has cut his crop, Get some bales together, round or square, put them up against a wall, or

I listen to alsorts. Grew up listeing to Judas Priest, Metallica, megadeth, etc, not really chillout stuff to be honest. Lately i`ve been tuning into Judge Jules Radio 1 Friday nights, that stuff does chill me out, just lying back with my eyes closed. Marcel woods, Cliff coenraad, Glenn morrison, sand and sense, Stoneface and terminal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uY9WsY-GH04

Yep, it`s my best film of all time too, and was filmed just up the road from me, and as has been said, the ruin is still there set back across the fields between Birdwell and Wentworth. The Gamekeeper was also filmed locally on the Wortley estate. I have to laugh at the Bo Selecta character, Craig David. "Come on Kes, come on ya b*****d. come to, crrraaaaig David. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTPYfkIokbw

FERN COTTON THE MOST BORING TWAT ON RADIO 1 , Yeah, your right there mate, and the silly bitch is a vegetarian. And while we are at it, that other jungle bunny, Reggie Yates, god i hate the man. deanflute, Fair point taken mate, but to me it doesn`t really matter to me whether he is a Paki or a tree climber to be honest, he at least comes over as one with how he talks, all that street talking shite what they have brought into this country and are teaching our kids that it`s the normal way to talk. fozzy

HAHA, you are dead right mate, it`s called ask Elvis, he is class and god only knows how he stops himself from cracking up, he certainly has Steve and that Tim pissing themselves. netfull. I was also brought up on those groups you mention and was even lucky enough to see Thin Lizzy at Sheffield city hall on their thunder and lightening tour in 1983. ooops, showing my age now. I too like to listen to Jeremy Vine as he gets one or 2 good debates going. fozzy

I have to say, this is something that really winds me up. Yes radio 1 was once the answer for music with no adverts, but even that station is full of knobheads talking shite all the time and very rarely playing any music and even when they do it`s bloody tree climbing nigger shite, it drives me insane. I work about 30 mins away from home and i spend more time station hopping to find something to listen to that i reckon i am lucky to hear 1 song in that time, the rest of the time is adverts or that paki Dev on radio 1 at 5am or that other know it all Greg James, who the feck is he.? Place your decoys in a horseshoe pattern facing slightly into the wind about 25-35 mtrs from your hide. This pattern helps them filter into the middle of your deeks. Make sure that you have got set up under a flightline, or as near as you can. Don`t go over board with the amount of deeks you put out, i generally put out about 15-20 mixed shell and full bodied. Make sure they don`t look too regimented, have them slightly angled but generally facing the wind. I use a flapper rather than a magnet, just my choice. With the flapper it is important to not overflap when you have birds overhead as thi

Definately a Sparrow hawk that, and with the size of it a female one. Female sparrow hawks are twice the size of the males. Goshawks have got more barring on their chests and are bigger birds altogether. A goshawk will bring a cock pheasant down in flight no problem. In the second set of photos the bird is definately a buzzard. fozzy

And this i why i am sorry to say that if i had the finances i would be out of the shithole of a country so fast my feet wouldn`t touch the ground. I`ts a shame really because this was the greatest country to live in the world, but not now. In certain places i feel like a foreigner in my own country. We have to thank the liebour government for this for signing us up to that feckin human rights act shite. The rest of europe have us over a barrel everytime we try to deport these scum bags. Just give me those 6 numbers on Saturday night and i will feckoff from here by Sunday. P.S,

In my local woods was a big steep grass bank. We used to get sheets of cardboard from the market skip and slide down it from top to bottom. That`s when summers were hot and long. What about playing marbles if you were lucky you would own ar win a dobber. I remember ice on the windows, before double glazing was invented, and candlewick blankets. Playing releavo and tin can locky and also cannon where you have 2 teams and you have to throw a ball at 3 clothes pegs that are stood against the wall and knock em down. I wish i could go back to those days. fozzy

Fabulous post there mate. Born in 68 and that`s everything i did. Don`t forget making bows and arrows and playing cowboys and indians. We went camping up in the local woods and moors. My mam and dad wouldn`t see us all day in the 6 week summer hols. Would i let my daughter do the same now?, i don`t think so. It`s a Shame really that society can`t be trusted to help my child if she got into trouble whilst out of my sight. Society now would rather turn a blind eye and walk by a child in trouble. A lot of this is being frightened of being accused of something. One time of day i could go an

My first car was a mk 2 Escort 1600 sport on an N plate which i think was 1972. It was orange with 4 oscar cibies on the front bumper. I paid £600 in about 1985. Wish i still had it now as it would probably be worth about 5k. fozzy
