Hi mate long time no see!I met you on the falconers forum at xmas. Your bird is coming on well. Fair play.
  3. No probs boy, just cant be f****d with arguing.
  4. No offence ment pal, I know a few falconers, they fly peregrines, gosses and redtails. One does have a ferrugunous too. I prefer dogs and guns, its just it seems like there are particular people on this forum that seem to want argue, AND I FOR ONE DONT! I joined the falconers forum, much better no arguements. This forum has gone down the pan, I joined because its a great place for buying equipment and finding more hunting buddies, but it seems the no1 place to let off steam. I noticed a lot of newbies come on here for advice and either get told that falconry is give it go type of thing, or get
  5. No offence to anyone, but a "respectable falconer" as you call it might be a mega hunter or whatever is the best status on here, but from my experience most guys I hunt with dont have time to go on forums as they are out with the birds or dogs. The term "armchair hunter" springs to mind.
  6. no offence pal but ferts and harnesses dont go like. My ferrets are either down a hole or in a hutch. If they bite, I know its strange but spit on your hand and let them lick it off they will soon come. I once had a proper poley given to me and he just wouldn`t tame, but the common fert will come. keep handling them too.
  7. ok cheers, always wondered the difference.
  8. I live in the back of beyond in wales and I get on with a lot of farmers so that should be ok, my pal shoots deer and he said I will need a rifle, I have gone from ferreting to guns and dogs. What is the easiset and best rifle type to apply for? whats the difference? Rimfire? centrefire? And the police said that there was no problem with the sgc.
  9. Hi all, I applied for my sgc a few months ago, I had the cabinet check about 3 weeks ago, they have taken the money from my account, but still no cert has come, I have put a deposit on my gun, but I just wish I could just go and get it. I have also aquired about 500-600 acres of farm, with plenty of foxes on it, What is involved with applying for a rifle?
  10. I myself too wanted a gos when I first took up falconry, but trust me to start with anything more demanding than a harris is like diving into shit with dumbells strapped to your arse. I looked after a gos for a week and it was like having a baby, there is much more to falconry than meets the eye. I understand you do a lot of other stuff too, It`s just it`s no life for a gos to be caged and not flown enough. They need to fly everyday and I have been advised that when turned on you really need to have kills every other day. It seems that because the harris is a good easy going bird nobody wants
  11. What you will find you need a lot of land and telemtry to fly a falcon. But hawks can be flown in sort of any enviroment, obviously you should still use telemtry but a falcon will go further than a hawk. I looked at getting a peregrine from a well known breeder and he advised me against it because of the land so I stuck with the harris. Trust me mate, I`d stick with a harris or a red tail, gosses and so-on is for the boys who have been at it years. Falconry is a really hard sport and harris hawks make it fun.
  12. I dont have a pic, but I did have one of these for falconry. It was a jill and it was albino, it was so small, like hamster. It worked well.
  13. I had a harris hawk pal, and it took a lot of time, say an hour every morning and 2 hours a day in the evening plus cleaning. Me and the missus had a few arguments too. They are fun to fly but because they are so specialist it is a hard thing to learn. I remember a blitz of people last year wanted to take up falconry and they seemed almost green to how much the birds need to fly. My friend who has a goshawk takes it to work with him on a cadge and flys it whilst at work every other hour and flys when he gets home. I tried it and didnt get on, I found with a dog and gun, the dog can sleep in a
  14. Well i`m bringing up a pointer pup so the gun is for game, I got a comment today that a local lad shot 3 geese and if he didnt have the semi he would have lost the last goose. I`d rather end the day on a good note. Just time to decide what to buy, I quite fancy the webley 800 series.
  15. cheers for all the advice guys, I really like the sx3 and I think it would suit my style of shooting. Whats the recoil like?
  16. Has anyone ever used these clay flinger type things, its like a handle and you put the clays on the end. It`s about £25. Just wondered if it was any good for a bit of fun?
  17. Hi all, I just been granted my sgc as you might have read in my other posts. I was just wondering have anyone got any of the semi`s. I shoot alone or with a friend that has a sx3. We mainly do rough shooting. I had a go of a 12bore o/u yesterday and had a go of a sx3 today. I really enjoyed shooting the sx3, but I have been advised against buying a semi by a few guys, but they seem a bit like marmite. It wasnt the fact of a 3 shot that really done it but how comfortable it was to shoot. I went to my local gun-shop which is a traditional small shop with a old boy that is a gunsmith not a salesm
  18. Ok thanks for the advice. I will take it in. To be honest I am a big fan of semi autos but the people I will shoot with hate them. So take a o/u that is of a decent weight, what cartridges would you recommend? And also recoil pads, how do they work?
  19. Na, its not my gun but, i was just trying a 12 bore. I am 22 but quite small in build and was just wondering what bore to go for, I couldnt shoot that everyday. It was wondering would a 20g be a better gun as the recoil is harsh.
  20. Hi all, Just wondering I have been granted my sgc and been out with a friend with the 12bore. Its an italian gun not sure of the make, it was 28" over and under. It looked like a marzocchi, What I am wondering is the gun was very harsh when shooting, it had a lot of kick. I dont mean to come across blue but I`m new to shotguns and just wondering do they all have a harsh kick. I have been told that recoil pads help, or to go for a 20bore. I just feel that shooting that gun I would miss as the kick lifts the gun.
  21. I bought a buffalo river 3 gun cabinet last week for £100 and the police said it was fine. I think that aslong as you have a bs no of certification on it and bolted to the wall correctly you should be fine.
  22. Na i cant fault either make to be honest, I was going to spend say about a grand but I have limited my self to £500. I know that I should be able to pick up a decent secondhand o/u. 20g might suit me better mind as I am quite small.
  23. I too have just been granted my s/c. I am a bit unsure of what to buy also. I have been advised to buy s/h sort of £400-£500 worth. But I can stretch to buy new. I will mainly be shooting alone or with a mate. Rough shooting will be the main subject, I have seen a fausti warwick or £900, but I have fallen in love with semi autos. I tried a work colleagues sx3 today and must admit it was nice to shoot. I understand that a lot of gunners hate semi`s. O/u or semi, new or s/h? I have been recommended by a very knowledgeable chap to go for s/h, and spend sort of £400 and I am not questioning hi
  24. Aye i`m a big fan of the hpr`s. I do like the weima but I`ts quite a large dog. Nice to see hpr`s on here. More pics please.
