  1. I remember looking after a finnish gos for a friend and I had 2 harrises, and found it the worst week of my life, gosses are so unpredictable, I will be waiting in the for sale section to buy it when it comes for sale, It seems that falconry has a sort of hierarchy everyone wants to fly gosses and it`s a shame because people think that gosses=macho falconer, well the newbies anyway. I would fly a gos if i was semi-retired, and i work 8 till 4.30!
  2. As stubby says its a catch 22 situation, more handling is the key here, as everyone else says its a bloody kit, not a fully grown mink! spit on your hands that works!
  3. No offence to you lad but people like you ruin the sport, the harris will be more than capable, trust me, you will shit your pants with a gos!
  4. To be honest lads the ferret gene pool seems to be going bigger ferret and less working strain, I understand the pet ferrets appeal when they are bigger, no good for working!
  5. My personal opinion is getting a gos as a first bird is mad!!!!
  6. No offence mate, but you would be diving into shit! A gos is only for someone with experience, the gos requires flying every day and to kill on each session, And obviously there are different species available and imprint and parent reared variants. Trust me you would not want a gos as a first bird but you wont understand until you have flown a harris or redtail. And flying a gos is very different to a harris.
  7. I bought 3 ferrets from a guy today, the breeder runs lurchers also. He gave 3 to me for £25. To be honest the parents work, but the only thing is which bear in mind I am not a believer in "greyhound ferrets" but the 3 are absolutely tiny!! I have owned 16 ferrets over the years, and my stock ran out when I lost my hob last week, so I treated myself, but these are about the size of a siberian hamster. I`l post a pic soon.
  8. No hard feelings lab tastic. ATB lifty
  9. labtastic, its a free forum mate so everyone is entitled to there opinions, and the reason I dont post much is nothing to do with being tight as money doesn`t affect this forum, or does it. Anyway main reason for not being on here much is I`m busy out spending time with the dogs, ferrets and so-on. All the best mate.
  10. There is some really good stuff on here but also complete and utter crap, what makes me laugh anyone with loads of points and it says donator or something are like kings. Yet it does bring the term armchair hunting to mind! Just to clear up any misunderstanding NO OFFENCE MEANT
  11. And so the arguments begin!
  12. No offence meant, keep as many as you want, after all it is a free country. Myself have two jills and one hob, all polecat coloured ferrets. The problem with this polecat stuff is everybody has a different opinion, myself think its just another thing for peddlers to sell ferrets as for some reason people seem to want eu polecats. If they look like ferrets then they are ferrets, my ferrets came from a lad who said, " the grandad is a polecat" but at the end of the day if it look like a ferret it is a ferret.
  13. scothunter nice to see you got your wooden spoon out again.
  14. no offence to the lad, but yet another "polecat myth", ferrets are ferrets boy whether no matter what colour they are, If you were advertising a lurcher like 1quarter bull and so on, would be right, but it`s a ferret. I suggest you read simon whiteheads book, because you must have your hands full with those 7. There are a few vids on youtube, type ferreting in and scroll down to a user called gunner1772 or something on those lines.
  15. My pup would bark if left in the kennel, and would sometimes bark for hours on end, Soaking him with a hose was crap to be honest, he used to open his mouth and sort of eat the water, but a full bucket of water waiting on the lawn, once he started barking, I would run as quickly as possible out the back door and launch the bucket over him. And it has stopped completely now.
  16. looks the part boy! I like that "happy as a dog with two dicks"
  17. talking to a mate yesterday and he was saying that the webley and scott ones are pretty good, his nephew bought one and no regrets, i think he paid £500 new!
  18. Stubby, just to clear up any confusion my local gun dealer was telling me that they did need a fair bit of greasing, I would try and find a s/h one and see how you get on, and then post your thoughts, I have shot one but not enough to say crap or not mind, But compared to a sx3 it didnt have the quality feel.
  19. Thats very true that it does like heavier loads there is a review in gun mart on it, I know that you can pick up some old browning pheonix`s 2nd hand up for about £450. I would just rather have something that have no faults, and good reviews, any of the big name guns are all pretty good, I have just ordered a browning maxus as I have been shooting with an old rizzini o/u lately. I know that the hatsan escort require a lot of greasing, why not have a look at webleys semi, my friend has one and it`s not bad.
  20. that will keep em goin a while boy!
  21. Hey pal, I also asked a few questions and 1 person replied. I had a go of one not so long ago, it was the luxano model. It shot ok but I know that they rarely jam, but when I had a go shooting a winchester sx3 it was a different ball game, I would rather save a few more quid and get a browning or beretta. Can I ask why you want a semi auto? Because if its a first gun I would start with a o/u.
  22. is that the dog that looks like a elastic bands/a mop head?
