Falconry the essential guide. It`s a good book but I would like more info on the husbandry side of it. Could I build a avary in a 12ft by 8ft shed or does it need to be outside? I would like loads of advice, but I read another post were a guy p**sed people off, whether Ive been tagged the same?

Does anyone on here have birds of prey? I just cant get anyone to reply to my post on the falconry forum.

Hi all, Just after some advice. I am reserching getting a harris hawk. I have posted on here as my previous post was answered once. I have bought a book on falconry but it seems that it is too advanced for my knowledge so far. I currently work ferrets. A friend of a friend is going to show me his and give me some information. I plan on getting a 12ft by 10ft shed to build an aviary in. I go on holiday roughly for a week a year. My neighbour manages my ferrets while I`m away. But so far I know a bit. Advice is greatly appreciated.

Cheers for the advice. To be honest I was recommended a harris hawk and a male. Do you need a licence to purchase one? I have bought a book on falconry, but it doesnt give any info on weighing, feeding and water. Any advice.

As my post says I need some advice on birds of prey, I work ferrets and fancy a bop. What are the species that are good for beginers? red tails? I plan on getting one roughly may next year so plenty of time to do a bit of research. How big would an avery need to be? what age is the best to buy? I have friends with harris hawks that are fab. Any advice would be grateful.

Aye crackers boy, handled every day is the way forward.

Well ive heard of people who keep them as pets cut nails but also groom, brush and shampoo. But they live in a house and dont go mining.
-
Aye, mine tend to grind naturally. I would not like to cut them as that red vein needs a lot of attention when cutting.

Ok cheers boy, It`s more of the commitment that worries me, my ferrets are not high maintenance. The dog would be kept in a kennel from 7 till say 5 or 6. Would that be ok?

Hi guys and gals, need some advice. I work 3 ferrets solo and was debating to get a terrier to work with me so I can mark. My missus is a bit off about the idea (she never has been ferreting with me). I work 7-5 mon-fri, I spend roughly an hour with my ferrets every night. What do you guys think, p.s. have had a german shepherd when i lived with my parents.

Like quixote said bit of affection wont go a miss. But myself wouldnt resort to the nose tapping nonsense, it doesnt seem to get you anywhere. Just patience, remember the people on here are have advice from experience something that you have to gain over time

how do i train a ferret to work
liftboy1 replied to FERRET MASTER 24.7's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
I found that the first 4 to 5 outings were purely training, they would rather just tangle the nets, but after a while the curiosity drove them down the hole and everything progressed. As mentioned before you dont train them its inprinted it`s more on our part that needs training No but in all seriousness they will come on well just patience boy, thats all you need. I used to work albino hobs as a kid, after a couple of years just got back with the ferts and glad to be back. -
I had this nipping problem with my two jill kits. Like quixote says there are people who know what they are on about and others that .........., But after taking advice from the likes of stealthy, one, kay, scothunter and quixote it has stopped. I found that respect, patience, feeding them flesh and putting some of the mouth pop on your finger and letting them like it off works. When I started the tapping on the nose nonsense they just got worse, I personally think they thought I wanted to play. Now when they come to the hole i can stick my hand there and lure them out. Worked for me.

Well done boy, so there are a few about then.lol
-
that made me LOL Yes me to lol Aye me too boys. I dont like grave yards, but as ive posted before i have had crap off passer by`s. But my neighbours are brilliant they all ask (how many?) And like to have a quick look. lol.
-
Like stealth said boy, as ive learnt everyone will help you. I just check out all the latest topics and you can keep the info in the skull jelly. Good luck for winter coming.
-
Cheers for the advice, I presume as they come from working lines that they should be sound. But like you said give them a go and see.

Oh right, I have heard a lot from tales of mothers giving birth to stillborn young to mothers giving birth to live young`uns and then the mother dying. So I think it`s just something that il have to look into, best thing is you can stick it on here and everyone gives advice. Feeding my kits flesh by the way like you said and nipping has totally stopped, cheers.

Well to be honest scothunter all my previous hobs were albino and were quite large and they looked the biz but I just dont think that you can beat the natural feel when a pole coloured comes out of a hole. I seen a stoat in the garden and that was a beauty. To be honest when I last kept ferts albino was the craze and poles where hard to come by but now it seems the other way round because all the kits I went to see were poles. Its just when I have seen polecats about they tend to be very dark. I understand that a local farmer told me that poles are for snow days and albinos for raptors. But I

Aye, well ferreting is all i do in my spare time, I used to keep ferrets a couple of years ago and just got 3 kits to get me back into it. I understand that colours and how tame a hob might be is nothing to do with offspring but myself prefer darker ferts and also due to my hob coming from a long line of working stock and the time and effort the breeder has put into him, I`m sure i could do it myself. I would like to have my kits from birth. As i know my jills were from a farm were there was no interaction with handling at all. And also my jills father was a decendant of a eu polecat, well so

Aye good one. Took a look earlier yesterday at my spot and there was a couple in the fields and seen a few dart to the burrows, so plenty of activity. I too am working 3 new ferrets, I dont have a ferret locator yet so I am trying to hang on till another month till I get one. I went out about a fortnight ago and didnt see a thing in the fields. But the winter is coming so roll on ice cold mornings!

Need some advice guys, Ive got 3x13 week old kits. 2x jills from a young farmer. One jill is albino and the other is extremelly dark. My hob is super tame he came from a working background and is polecat coloured. I would like to breed him with my dark jill because I would imagine the colours would be mint and they would be tame. The jills is not like a white with black markings but all black with white markings. Any advice on breeding. I would like to keep a few and obviously sell the rest. I bought the hob to serve my jills with the snip, but I dont want to put an end to the colours I have.

After reading another post I crapped myself, I keep all my kit in a new shed, everything to do with hunting because I retreat to the shed to have my me time. And to think that scallywags are stealing ferrets then they would have a field day at mine. It`s sad that you cant have anything nice without the fact of the possibility of it getting stolen.
