very nice, I love harrises everybody says its a beginers bird but I disagree, is there is a beginers bird? or is it that a harris hawk has that appealing labrador personality. Harrises forever would never fly anything else.
  2. Just like to put my foot in the door. I myself have done a lot of chatting with jan and I cant fault him. To be honest eskedale hawks is a respectable falconer, newbies dont go starting arguments that have been left. I`m sure one of you two had a pm discussion with me and I gave you advice and then seen a post on the for sale/ wanted section about harrises. So thats why eskedale gets f**ked off because no one listens.
  3. I recommend more reading boy, In my opinion a raptor is to hunt. Obviously evenings or weekdays is sort of training if you like such as jump ups. I fly weekends only and keep fit every week night. Falconry has to be done properly, cutting corners will only spoil things further on. In my opinion, read a couple of books and try and find some austringers or falconers around your patch or join the IFF. A few good books are falconry and hawking which is fairly old but is a cracker, sky hunters and any book written by jemima parry. ATB
  4. What else do you want to do with the bird??
  5. Aye got ripped too. Needed the room for raptor. Cheers
  6. Fair enough, youl be sorted then.
  7. To go from handling a air arms to a goshawk is not a very good step especially if you have never had a bop before.
  8. Welshboy im in carmarthen and tell you what if you can collect il do it all for 30quid, the hutch is no good to me as i need the space for my bird. They are awsome ferrets, Ive kept ferrets for years and these are by far the best ive had. Good hunting pack. I want shot of them in a week.
  9. West wales, they are this years young and have been out 3 times so far and have had 1 rabbit and have worked along a veteran. I want £50 for the lot. This includes 3 ferrets and a brand new 5ft hutch, 3 nets with pegs and a ferret box. They have come from good working stock. So they are going to be crackers just havent got the time as I have a raptor also. And fight the ban if your not intrested dont bother posting stupid comments, its just a bit childish.

    new begginer

Hi mate, forget a bird for a while. You need a good book and read it back to front. It`s not as easy as it looks.
  13. Cheers eskdale hawks, I do like the wire haired look. I didnt actually mean that the dog would be in the aviary but in the same compound, just thought so it would get used to the dog. And farlap unless you have any constructive help dont reply cheers
  14. Oh right, been told they are fine. But il stick to your comment there. Am I right about the catfood?
  15. Day old chicks are quite good, the more flesh they get the tamer they seem to be. I just wouldnt contemplate feeding them cat food. I know that If they are kits and arent working yet its difficult to get flesh but chicks are only 10p each or invest in an air rifle.
  16. Just a bit of advice boy, I would stick with dry rather than catfood as I doesnt contain a high enough meat content, well they usually dont anyway. I had mine on dry for a bit but stuck them on rabbit and whatever my raptor catches like pigeon and magpies. Ferrets are like an investment, stick with them and you won`t regret it.
  17. He is the only guy I know who has a ferret that goes in a hole and pi**es off with the rabbit and I dont mean a lay up!!! And he uses a akita as a marker dog.
  18. Hi all, would like some info on if a weimaraner would be suitable for falconry and possibly marking rabbit holes? I know that a lurcher would be more suited but I would prefer a weimaraner as I see a lot of them used for falconry. The plan is for to come with me to work every other day and to be kept in a shed at night that is 6ft squared. The shed would be shared with a harris hawk. Can anyone give mwe any corrections to my post, as I have only ever kept a german shepherd. Any advice would be brilliant.
  19. I once knew a guy who had 2 lovely albinos and they were from pet stock. He used to put his ferrets in holes and constantly worry about losing them, he used to tie string by the yard to them he worried so much, and he never let them work and got rid of them because he thought they were crap workers. The young lad who had them put loads of time in with them and they turned out top workers, so good they were lead ferrets when he has kits to show them the ropes. And as for the fool who gave them away now attempts to ferret with a polecat, MWOAH!!
  20. I had this problem years ago, how I sorted it was by putting them down holes constantly and they seemed to o deeper and deeper and also as one said pipes are like warren simulators, also putting a top worker in the warren will teach young`uns the ropes. ATB John
  21. Aye shey are spot on and I`m lucky to have a greyhound type also. But got a hawk coming in a fortnight for some support for the jill albino. So flat out over the winter. I much prefer the ferreting site over the falconry one mind.
  22. O ye they are ancient!!!lol. No they are this years kits, 1 polecat ferret hob, 1 polecat ferret jill and greyhound albino jill. Probably still a bit to young mind.
  23. Well to be honest its still overgrown and the holes are hidden. And as they are rookies some holes they would go down as where others they would run in and out. But getting a harris hawk in fortnight so should have high numbers then.
  24. Took my 2 jills out today for the first time after a ten year hunting break. Was out for roughly 45mins bolted one and caught 1. Holes did look a bit abandonded mind you. Not bad eh? Would have had more if the pants weather was better. We have had our first hard frost last week but now stuck with rain. Lets hope it gets better.
  25. Well done jan, really chuffed to read this post after the slating you got on another post. Do you mind if I pm you some advice. Cheers lifty
