  1. I was there that day, it was such a shame. She was dug to time and time again to no avail as we didnt know where she was. Like LDR says its not worth it.
  2. I've just had confirmation that I can use a hob from excellent working stock to serve my jill! Im well chuffed. For a week that started off awful its ended really well for a change.
  3. Seriously though, are your jills in full season now? mine haven't even started
  4. What I'll say is that its easier to do it wrong than to do it right! After a few attempts though - you'll eventually get there, I struggled just like you did initially, and strangelly enough putting the ring on at the end was my problem too Keep at it, your first net looks great!
  5. It wasn't cold after 3 hours of digging about!!!! I nearly ripped her out by the ankle when she said she could see it....... Im not suprised you said that!!
  6. I'm round the bend because of this! My uncle is doing a crossword and needs to know the answer to the following question; The name of a nocturnal rodent, 10 letters beginning with F. Anyone??
  7. Myself, longdogrunner and mrs longdogrunner all set off to do our last ferreting day this season at the sand dunes. It all started off great - within 30 seconds we had a rabbit in the net. The next 40 minutes we had 3 more. Then disaster struck! my polecat jill came out minus her collar and here is where it was! So we headed home with our catch and came back with a load of equipment! After poor longdogrunner had dug for over three hours into an already established hole and moved so much rubble I had a look and saw it about 6 foot from the entrance! After another 20 minute
  8. Thanks for your reply gnipper, don't get me wrong - I will be advertising some of them free to good working homes as Im not planning on doing this for money, I will be keeping most of them myself for my own needs and am planning on keeping a hob that will eventually be vasectomised to bring my jills out of season. I just need to make sure i'm not putting my best worker at risk by being impatient
  9. There is no way I would ever use a muzzle on any of my ferrets. In days gone by it may have been the best way forward without the use of locator collars. Times have changed though. No offence intended to the person asking the question at the start of the thread mind - everyone needs to learn somewhere.
  10. One of my ferrets has been absolutely brilliant this season I really want to breed from her with another great worker. This spring will be her first time in season and she will be a year old on 18th April. I've read loads about breeding and am aware of the pro's and cons to it -I have seriously thought it through and due to all the permission I've now got I need really good workers and I've now got a big enough set up to house more ferrets. The thing is - it doesn't say in any of the books Ive read how old they should/ shouldn't be when you breed from them? Now, I don't want to go and risk lo
  11. That all makes perfect sense to me now! But just one question - What is the dial thing on the back for?
  12. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=29084 Its well worth a watch!!
  13. As far as Im aware you can send mark 1 collars off for a service to Deben. There's a dodgy connection that needs looking at and sorting - I bought it off someone from e bay and they wont give me a refund it can be easily repaired by the right people so Ive decided to cut my losses and pay for the repair then swap it for a mark 1 ferret collar. If your still interested send me a PM. Cheers.
  14. pm me your address again and i will send you a 15m spoil that i have, cover the cost of p&p and its yours if you feel like spending a little more on p&p i have 2 ready made metel jigs for the 2 sizes of slider but being metel the post may be a few quid. 18. Myself, longdogrunner and Mrs longdogrunner went out on some new permission on thursday. The first set we tried was a small bury and we bolted nothing. We moved on a bit further down the field where we were yelled at by an anti the last time we were there this time we had written permission to be there but the nice lady didnt show up Anyhow, we set the nets over what seemed to be a huge set, ferrets in and bingo one got out of a pop hole we hadn't even seen on the other side of the barbed wire fence. [smiley=wavesad.gif] Bruce the wonder dog was quickly grabbed by Mrs LDR as he was carry
  19. Yep - she's gone and to be honest she will be sorely missed! I am gutted A big loss to the sites!
  20. Are the mk1 ferret collars the same size as the Mk1 terrier collars? The receiver bit ( ) dont know the proper name seems very big for a ferret I'm used to the mk3 collars which are much smaller.
  21. Right everyone - Ive tried coat hanger wire and fence post wire but they are both too thick so what sort of wire should I use to make my purse net sliders? Thanks.
