  1. I took the ferrets out on saturday and didnt catch a thing. Thats me for this year, Im getting my rifles out now. Its too hot for the ferrets and the cover is awful now. This was exactly a month ago and this was yesterday
  2. Cheers John, I get paid next thursday so when your anywhere near me let me know and I'll get it off you then. She's due on 7th June and I cant wait!!
  3. Its not something I find easy to be honest but Im still ferreting at the minute. Not on farm land but in peoples gardens. Ive had so many calls lately about rabbits munching their way through peoples plants in their gardens. The cover is getting quite bad though and to be honest Im hoping that this saturday will be my last spring/ summer trip with the ferrets. Ive got plans to go early morning shooting instead with my air rifle and Im hoping to use longnetting as another means aswell. Good luck to you though and make sure you have some good gardening gloves as I got stung to bits last week off
  4. I see your point Socks I just thought that with her almost ready to have the kits I would keep a kind of bond going with her so she knows its safe when my hands are in the hutch cleaning it out and changing her water, giving her a little kitten milk was supposed to be my way of doing that , like you say, Ive learned the hard way where any kind of milk is concerned and she will now be getting a little raw meat every night as her treat (They are on dry food at the minute as my freezer is empty of rabbits)Perhaps I read too many books Nothing like personal experience when it comes to learning
  5. No bother, your just a head nurse anyway, it'll be fine if they have mentl health problems The only thing you'll kill them stinkers with is love Its a fact!!
  6. Its all so odd really, Im so careful with everything to do with my ferrets; I feed them a raw diet every night and remove any leftovers the next morning to avoid any food poisoning, they get cleaned out twice daily and get fresh water morning and night. When I have no raw diet they get James Wellbeloved dry food. I read so much about ferrets and whats best for them etc, etc. So Im a bit gutted that I gave my best working ferret something that she may be intolerant to I suppose any animal could be allergic to anything at any given time All I can say is its such a good job terrier lady was her
  7. And another thing.......I meant intollerant to the milk - not lactose . God, its such a worry when something like this happens It is lactose there intollerent to I think you are right Kay She seems OK now thankfully, she must be the same as Sue's ferret as she was sick almost as soon as it hit her stomach, poor little thing eh.

  9. Its a product called Lactol and its specially formulated for kittens and small animals. I was told when I bought it that it would be ok for ferrets?? I hope it is safe after what they said!
  10. I bought some kitten milk for my pregnant ferret today. I thought as a treat I'd give a little to the other ferrets. One of them had 25mls and within a minute of finishing the milk she began wretching and was sick all over followed by diarrhoea from hell I was very carefull not to get cows milk and the rest of them seem fine. Is it possible that she has a lactose intolerance? Obviously I wont be giving her anymore and I'll stick to my original plan which is to give a little kitten milk to the pregnant jill so that I can keep a good bond with her and hopefully she wont get scared while Im clea
  11. Why don't you sell the Mrs instead!! Good luck selling it, dont think you'll have any probs though
  12. I have had a box from the ferret box company and have to say I wouldnt buy anywhere else! They are well made and really cheap in my opinion. The box came within a few days of paying for it, its varnished up and ready for action come the season. In fact, Im going to buy a triple bowback box as soon as I get paid.
  13. I just wanted to say thank you very much for the 4 mesh boards, the leather pouch they are in and the fully loaded handmade needle I received this morning!! A top job I have to say. I cant wait to get net making!
  14. Glad you have taken the advice on board Ive learned that theres a lot to learn when keeping and working ferrets, good luck to you.
  15. Sue, thats another great set up you have there!!
  16. Will, send John Hubery a PM. He built my court and its well put together! I would definately recommend him.
  17. That makes a lot of sense. If I was you; Albino Hob I would take that advice.
  18. The dog has been reunited with his owner today, the couple were visiting friends and the dog ran off, they had been searching for him for five hours!! At least he's back home now though.
  19. Today my mate found a terrier wandering in her street, what is very odd is the fact that the dog has a phone number on his collar that is in Longhorton, near Alnwick which is a good 30 miles away from where he was found Here's a picture of him. Please send me a PM if you know who he belongs to. Cheers.
  20. its a fact!! That warren was the biggest Ive ever seen! She's starting to show signs of pregnancy and I hope she has loads to be honest, I love that pic off Daddy Cool in that huge warren -What a fab day that was!! This was the end result on Woodgas permission (The dog in the pic is his - I was well impressed with him too)
  21. The court was made by DD Timber Products which I would highly recommend to everyone, it depends what you call expensive really?? I'm not rich by any stretch of the imagination but when you consider that an average hutch is around £100 if you times that by three then you could easily have a court set up, I started off with a hutch, then on to a bigger one with a run then decided that a court would be a better option as I really need a good amount of ferrets as Ive got quite a lot of ferreting permission (Lucky me - but its taken lots of knocking on doors and a great deal of effort on my behalf
  22. Workers, and good ones at that - which is why Im so keen on treating them like royalty Oh, Im breeding off one of them to keep the line going with another proven worker.
  23. A BIG thanks to terrier lady for all the hard work she put in too
  24. I thought I'd put a few pics up of my set up, Ive just changed a few things and still have to stain the bits inside but here it is anyway.
