  1. Frank Are you saying you wont be training your dog at all? A dog must have basic training to be a success in the field, I started training my bitch at six months, she is well on her way, if I want to check out the next field I can leave her at the gate while I check it out and call her on if I see bunnies, makes life a lot easier. Frank I may have misread your post??
  2. My word ladies, handbags at ready,,,,,,,,,,,,, fire
  3. Agree with you fully, these are little Ba**ards, one lake we fish is full of them, unless you pop the bait you could end up running out of bait. Next time try catch one and use it on a float, great baits
  4. Reynardhunter Yes I use that method, blue band I find best. Lads I have taken loads of Pike at night, all taken on popped up Roach with tons of oil injected, and a betalight attached to the trace. Last fish was just over 22lb and was taken at 1.45pm. How about lures at night, never tried it, just wondering.
  5. Cracking dogs. How is the one woth the wax jacket bred??
  6. Macker I saw a photo of the bite, tell ya what it was nasty. It was more like a cut from a knife, really wide and deep. I am now told the sweeney Lurcher is much sought after in the greater Dublin area, I was told that in the early days the dog was lazey, always in bed and forever chasing bitches from the area.
  7. I am looking for info on a line of Lurcher that was famous in Dublin many moons ago. A friend of mine who kept Lurchers years ago has this strain and boy could these dogs work. I know that the guy who bred them was called Sweeney, he was a well known Lurcher man round this neck, not sure if he is still alive, tried to find out. Does anyone know the Sweeney line of Lurchers, he was from around Dublin, but was known to wander, spent some time in Ballymun, where I believe he had many litters. Any info please?
  8. Not to bad in Ireland, no snow where I am, got out last night, one bunny with Reynardhunter.

  10. Pike at night. I have my own thoughts on this one, but I am wondering if any of you guy fish for Pike during the night. And if so what tactics you use. I have some photos of large Pike caught after dark, will post when I get time. JR
  11. Well done pal, not many so called dog men would have stuck with a dog with suck a bad break. You are a credit to our sport.
  12. You are right, I wrote that piece for a Irish basde Angling Mag many moons ago. I still love this form of angling, 5.30am summers morning and you making you way to that little bay covered in lillies, Tench feeding all aroung and the odd pike breaking surface in search of breakfast, nothing like it. JR

  17. Nice read DS, name the lake in the back ground.
  18. What the fook is ya man like!!!! That's just some of the reactions that people come out with whenever they see me afloat in my pike tube. I suppose it must be strange to see a Michelin man look alike floating around in the middle of a lake in a car tube. To many it must be amusing but to me it's the most exciting form of piking to hit this country. Need I say any more, yes it was the Yanks that are responsible for this weird but wonderful way of catching Pike. I remember the first time I encountered such a wired looking contraption on Blessington; I was amazed at the mobility that this ang
