eye discharge after ratting
MissRhianL replied to the monkey slayer's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
hiya if you dont have access to eye drops, warm tea bag will do the trick just fine and clear the eye crap up. -
some people have put bull, staffs an even engligh bull terriers into the breeding, also recently seen whippet x jack russells

when the puncture wound happened, did you treat the area yourself to make sure its clean etc? as there could of been something stil remaining in the area which has caused it to inflate and swell. its always a good idea to give your dog a jab of penicillin or some antibiotocs for about 3-4 days just to make sure it minimises the chances of the area from being infected. have a closer look at the injured area and see if there is anything unusual other than swelling.

Just wondering about a few things, are there many dogs out there of this breed bull x whippet that makes a good working dog, or is it preferred to have a greyhound breeding instead? I know whippet x bulls are hard to come by these days, are they hard to find cause they dont make a good worker or people dont tend to put the 2x breeds together or as soon as a litter is up for sale they are all taken? you see many ads these days of bull x greyhounds for sale for many reasons but hardly ever bull whippet.

Just want to know what you think about the breeding of whippet x jack russell? anybody have one or pics would be nice. and what work yours loves doing.

Id say shock collars can turn out to be very effective but then again in another way can go totally in the wrong direction. It all depends what your using them for. What seems to be the problem as theres several techniques to try first, as really a shock collar is last resort for some people. but each to their own. some dogs i do agree do need to have the shock collar first off especially if its strong headed. some dogs will put them selves through all the pain you throw at them, cause in their mind theyre gonna do and have what they want. try alternative methods first. if your not sure what,

I think the answer to your question is each to their own. Personally, if my dog gets bitten quite badly, a jab of penicillin to fight off any sort of infections that might develop. If you dont have access to this, household antibiotics will do the trick. Be sensible with the dosage for the right size dog. make sure you clear the area with warm salt water normally does the trick or TCP or antiseptic spray. Do it for a few days it will gradually clear up and reduce any swelling.

hiya not to worry my both dogs had the same symptoms, that was caught from another dog as kennel cough is so easily caught from another dog. dont spend all that money taking it to the vets, it could take about 1-2 weeks to ease the symptoms but all i did was: get any type of cough medicine for a dry / tickly cough, give it to the dog or mix a spoon of the mixture in with some water or warm milk so it tastes a little better or another alternative honey and milk or honey an a dash of blackcurrant squash, i normally add abit of warm water to it to warm them up Also antibiotics tha

i know this might sound a bit stupid but what we dont notice is a drop in temperature lately and quite recently its been quite cold. Cold weather results in less bodily fluids sweating out of the body so the only way to pass the excess bodily fluids is by peeing them out. Think of how your body reacts to the cold, a dogs is exactly the same.

anyone got any good rabbit recipies?
MissRhianL replied to daveyace's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
I quite enjoy experimenting with Rabbit. strip the meat from the rabbit and cut into pieces, heat some oil garlic and butter up in a wok an add the meat or if you want to add some spice to it, curry paste use a scoop and marinade the rabbit init, bout 30mins later quickly fry the meat so its cooked all the way through and put into tortila wraps! -

pad cuts are cows to heal cause the dog is constantly putting pressure on the cut, stopping the tissues binding and holding together and healing properly. Longs if you bath the cut with warm salt water, there shouldnt be a problem. The dog will lick the cut itself removing any foreign bodies with its tongue. You can do with yourself when you bath the area. Some people have tried wrapping like a loose but secure bandage around the cut to stop anything from getting in there. It all takes time butty

advice on a ear hanger on......
MissRhianL replied to wato's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
if you are sure that there is no insect lingering in that area, just pop to the vets just incase its a growth that may develop bigger and cause further problems and later on cost more down the line. Worth getting it checked out if it gets bigger. -
what to bath cuts and grazes?
MissRhianL replied to andyrose's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I agree with everyone on this comment: Salt water in warm water, longs if you bath the area a few times daily, the cut shouldnt get infected. The dog will lick it clean itself anyway. Cant go wrong with salt in some water. If you manage to go to a game fair or something, pick up some antibacteria spray and spray the area and leave it. Should be fine. -
My dogs have had a few rashes from different types of ground they run on. All you need is sudocreme put it on the affected area and it will clear up itself.

There was a case of a few dogs round by me a while back who caught kennel cough. My 2 had it. Both of them were given normal household antibiotics, along with warm water with honey and normal medicine for dry coughs that you can pick up £1 bottle down at the chemist, and that cleared it right up.
