  1. Hi Alan, I agree with Stealthy, get yourself a Spring Powered Air Rifle. I'd suggest you get something sort of mid-budget (£300ish) which should get you a decent gun and scope (telescopic sight). Below is a shopping list of essentials; ESSENTIALS Gun - Like your friend I haven't shot many of the new springers but lots of people on here will recommend any Weihrauch, Air Arms TX200, Webley, etc) You'll need to chose between 0.22 or 0.177 (the bore diameter in inches), although for shooting on farmland 0.22 is definitely the most popular. [£250ish] Scope - go for either a 4x40 (which mea
  2. That reminds me of the time when I shot a rat, unwittingly my pellet bounced off an old sheet of kitchen worktop behind it and fizzed past my head!!!
  3. I'm with Nasher on this one. I couldn't part with cash anywhere near as fast as she can if i tried. My Ultra cost less than her handbag..... mind you, that was a present from me too! However, I'm a sort of a "what do you mean, this has been lying in the shed for years" kind of guy when she points at any new toys!
  4. Hi Connor, Buster is right, the screw (grub screw, you'll need an allen key) is INSIDE the adapter.
  5. I can see you aren't getting much love for your gun! I think it looks fantastic. I'm also a little jealous.
  6. Someone should start a poll on whether or not we should have any mores polls!
  7. Good shooting Davy, bit of a "competitive dad" streak there? Maybe you should have bit of PS3 FIFA or Pro Evo and see if that evens up the score!!!
  8. STAY AWAY FROM BSA, thats my advice!!! If your after a boinger HW97 or AA TX200. atb nightstalker1 . Are you a rabbit? I have a BSA and that was the headline in the Rabbit News!
  9. I'm not sure if we're comparing apples with apples here. the one I have is definitely good to 100 yards. I'll take some pictures tonight if you like
  10. Thats quite funny! :clapper:
  11. Interesting to see a hugh following for the domed pellets. I've tried dozens in the past including pointed ones, flat headed ones and the hollow pointed ones (i think they were Bisley Pest Control) but I think you're always sacrificing something. Domed pellets are the best all round for accuracy AND stopping power. AA Field Diablo are my choice with the BSA Ultra My old Airsporter won't work with anything else other than 5.6mm Eley Wasps, but I'm not complaining as they're pretty good too.
  12. I finally got to use my Tesco Cree Torch last Friday night! Nowhere near as good as I had heard Okay out to 15 maybe 20 yards, anything further was a definate no-go!! I'd gone through all the info, got a mount, made a remote switch, but for bunnies in a field close work and in buildings they are the dogs nuts though I'm going to follow Robs advice and get one of those Phantom Which one did you get? I got the bigger one and it shines bright to 80/100 yards at night easily
  13. sweet dreams l'il bunnies! nice shooting Davy, you've some patience to hide up for an hour!
  14. I think the scorpion will make about 50/60 shots but not entirely sure on that one. You don't always need to shoot the gun to know whether or not you like it. I think when you get down to shooting it you're just confirming what you already know. If the money is tight, I'd be reluctant to go down the PCP route. the gun is just the beginning. Add £100ish for a pump or £200 for a bottle. but i'm sure you know this already!
  15. Hey Aaron, just a though.... surely if its such a tough decision as to which one to go for.... then maybe they're BOTH good guns and you can't really go wrong? I agree with everyone elses comments, just try them both and decide which YOU like best. Quite often you'll find people are still shooting with 20/30 year old guns (not just air rifle shooting) and they won't change coz the gun suits them so well. Also you'll find someone with the dogs balls, £1000+ gun, who can't hit the arse end of an elephant with it. The gun isn't the most important thing in the equation. Just my opini
  16. You know its a crow if it goes "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK" (in a crow-style) when you shoot it!
  17. Great comments Mat, totally agree. I would never shoot at anything that I wasn't certain I could kill (well, except rats!) and even then I will only shoot them if I'm certain I can retrieve them (no point in shooting a pigeon that will fall into a feed bin/get stuck in a roof truss, etc, etc) I don't think I'm alone in having the opinion that the primary reason why I have an air rifle is for vermin control. When I just want to shoot something for the sake of shooting it I'll sit in my garden and hit paper targets, maybe I might even draw a picture of a rabbit on the target, but i'm not
  18. Go for the Multishot. Loading isn't tricky, just a little unusual but you soon get into the routine
  19. Although I don't dispute the quality of these guns, they are all in a similar price bracket!!!! (£600-£800) I would suggest something like the following; Top end - S410/HW100t/Rapid Middle Range - BSA Ultra/AA S200 Lower End - BSA Lightening XL Budget - Any decent second hand springer (BSA, Webley, Weihrauch, etc, etc)
  20. nice work... good to see the farmers friend side by side put to good use. i have a Greener side by side and a Rizzini over under in the gun cabinet with the air rifle and i never take the shot guns out for pigeons. the air rifle can fell 10 times more pigeons. However, when it comes to crows and rooks in the spring gimme a shotgun and a #6 anyday!
  21. BAM, right in the kisser! it seems magpies are the opportunists quarry these days! nice shootin davy. me and the good lady just polished off the ultras first rabbit offering earlier this evening. now she's demanding some woodies.... women, eh?
  22. One thing I miss about the BSA Airporter, you could get 20 pellets into the vents in the butt pad. that was a great feature. Always struggled since for something decent as you never need more than 40/50 pellets with you on a full days shooting.
  23. Great stuff. nice addition to the R'abbatoir
  24. First rabbit killed with the BSA Ultra.... he was sitting about 35 yards away and facing away from me. he raised his head an inch and just about gave me enough room to pick him off just behind the ear. I even blood shot his eye a little. Lovely kill from a lovely gun.
