Exactly ! Take my old area, crime (especially violent crime and sexual assault) has gone through the roof over the last decade.......the locals just elected the same Crime Commissioner again !!! Thick as shit !.......they all complain all the time but they are getting exactly what they asked for.

You can pay for a private assessment mate, I don’t know how much they are but probably not cheap. However, they are normally pretty understanding about these things and you will have a bit of time to save up before you get an appointment. What you can ask for is an opinion letter from your point of contact at CHAMS, explain that your lad can’t access the help without it and that may do the trick. Edited to add: That’s what we did while we wait the 2 years for a proper assessment, even the private bloke is booked up for 12 months !

Yep, but that’s not school funding mate. Their special needs funding will be coming from a different place and they won’t want to loose that.

If they are denying a kid with a statement and an assessment to a facility they get a lot of funding for then that is serious, again I’d say take that to OFSTED and tell them that’s what you are going to do. If you are all square and there’s no special circumstances (like violent outbursts/physical harm to others) then they won’t have a leg to stand on ?

There you go mate, it’s about finding the correct environment too. But schools are led by Governors and the SLT......if you don’t think they are doing their job then you go to OFSTED and make a big f***ing noise.....they will definitely take notice of that because a bad OFSTED report puts them in serious financial shit.....that means redundancies, it’s mean extra work for those left, it means special measures and a black mark for future career prospects for the head.......it’s a massive big stick. As a governor, going to OFSTED or the threat of it would be even more of a big deal

Seems a strange position for a teacher to take because they get extra funding for any statemented pupils.....an assessment and a statement opens up a whole new avenue of resources for them mate. Thats the point I’d be pushing if I was you, life is always plenty of carrot and not too much stick

That may be true at university level but I don’t agree it’s the case at primary and secondary level.......results matter too much for your actual classroom teacher to be bothered or have time for that. The ethos and ideology of a school comes from the top, the governors and SLT......get in there, change it, do something ?

I watched that game too mate and I have to say, I just can’t agree with you. We know now that the lad was a man-child and he was so fired up for this game (and with all the hype surrounding him at the time) that I think he genuinely thought he had to go and win the game alone......and it all just blew up on him......it was too much. That lad was left hanging in the wind in a system that wouldn’t be tolerated around football clubs now......today, someone would take care of him.
