My sow gave birth to a litter of piglets in my cow barn the other year……as they got bigger I tried milking the f***ing things but no joy……can’t work it out myself ?

They were called Laskars mate, my maternal grandad was a stoker, went to sea at age 14 in the early part of the last century and was at sea then all through both wars, my 5 uncles were at sea through ww2 as well and my father in law was also a stoker. Laskars were labourers on board ship……I wouldn’t exactly call them a community because that’s not true ?

There’s a lad doing veg at Strokestown called Jacob, really like the look of what he is doing. Theres also Drumnilra Farm who are about to open Irelands first organic drive through in the old KFC at Carrick. They raise all their own Dexter beef, grow the veg, bacon, everything. Theres a lot of exciting stuff happening in that way over here.

A chicken if it was the “proper” money would cost £20 and even then you wouldn’t be earning hardly anything out of it. £80 for half a lamb is cheap mate when you consider 1 back leg will set you back £25

There’s a lad called Clive Bright near me, he rears 100% organic grass fed beef and sells directly in a box scheme. Its €14 a kilo no matter what cut and he is sold out all the time. I did a farm walk there with him and it’s a cracking set up, everything aimed at building up nature, adding bio diversity, making the cattle and the land work with each other. He has planted mixed swords, trees, created ponds. He works a mob grazing system and moves them once or twice a day. Its fantastic

There’s a lad I know well in my old town, went to school with him blah blah. He got elected as an independent councillor in a borough that has been devastated by government policy over the last 25 years. He promptly jumped into bed with the Tory ruling administration as did a load of other “independent” councillors for the promise of a committee position and the extra money that comes with that. He made all sorts of lame, bullshit excuses about it…..the normal political double speak bollocks. Im going to say the same to you as I said to him, you can’t be part of the people

I hear you squire, I’d be worried every day if I still lived there. My older boy is 14 and my girls 18 & 19. Some of the shit my girls friends back in Blighty are having to deal with is terrible, just going to a party and people getting stabbed and all sorts, getting preyed on by county lines drugs recruiters and all sorts. EMy lad is a nice quiet lad, loves his sport and is tall and in good shape….I’d be worried for him every day. Its f***ing disgusting and I’m no choirboy that has led a sheltered life myself. As horrible as it is, I have very little sympathy left

I agree, it’s tragic mate, blokes got 5 kids…..terrible. However, taken emotion out of it for a second I can’t help but feel that this bloke is part of the party that brought that situation to Southend. I know there was always a bit went on but nothing like the south Essex of today since the clearance of the London ghettos really got started…..and I’ll say this too, it hasn’t mattered all the time it’s been our kids getting plunged for knocking a pint or simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time, nobody wanted to mention it but you can bet your bollocks they will all want to

Gloucester Old Spot mate. Yeah, I just do them as I need them but cattle for veal by about 10/11 months and boars by about a year but really they should be earlier. Sows it don’t bother me to leave. Sheep I just leave and pick as I need.

Yeah I totally get that mate. Im after more pigs myself but I’m waiting until I can get some pedigree GOS, had some lined up but Brexit put paid to that….too much hassle to import them.

Don’t know your exact situation mate but I always say they don’t take up any freezer room all the time they are walking around eating. Lol I just kill my stuff as I need it.
