  1. Got both, work both. It's like a toolbox, you have to have a variety. Jill's are fast and nimble, but sometimes you need a slow and steady hob to shift stubborn bunnies. Anyone that tells you that hobs kill more than jills have a fairly limited experience. We've got hobs that never kill and jills that have a real blood lust, it's all down to drive and personality. Small jills used to have the advantage of slipping through nets, but collars have a tendency to snag anyway so don't get hung up on gender too much. Many people make the mistake of over thinking, he ferret doesn't know your plan s
  2. I've never paid for a ferret, I've never asked for money for a kit. Auctions are for peddlers to sell and mugs to buy.
  3. Fair play to you looking to get experience, it might be worth asking in any local sporting shops as well.
  4. Lie the pheasant on it's back and open its wings. Stand on the wings as close to the body as you can then take hold of the legs and pull up firmly but steadily (easier when still warm). This pulls the bird away from the crown (breast on breastplate with wings attached). Cut the wings off the crown and either cook it whole or cut the breast meat off. Chuck the rest in to the ferts.
  5. I've had some days like that, the frustration of being alone and not being able to see all your nets. I've been on an open hillside with the wind blowing my nets off the holes, just glad to be out and had to get away from the world for a bit. Remember the wise words "better a rainy day on a windy hillside, than a sunny one in the office".
  6. Cool story bro, needs more dragons.
  7. For what possible reason would you do that? Best scenario is a dog that doesn't have any interest in the ferret - either through genuine concentration on the job at hand, or through a dislike ok getting bitten so it stays away. ps: Anyone that even owns a ferret muzzle is a cock.
  8. you really are a nob. Why does that comment provoke that response? It can quite easily be taken as a joke, unless you are reading more into it (which means you were thinking the same).
  9. Well done on finding a 78 year old farmer that can send a text message.
  10. I'm not calling you a liar, but if his land is flooded the last thing on his mind will be texting the lad that comes ferreting to tell him the rabbits are drowning.
  11. If there open burrys on bigish land you can just walk the rabbits back into the warren : ) then ferret it , Do they not lie up more because they've seen you coming?
  12. Mine love squirrels, just slit the belly open and throw in.
  13. I believe they closed down through pressure and bullying from the animal rights nuts, they used to breed for laboratory testing as well as sale to the public.
  14. What's the point in ferreting when the rabbits are out feeding? Get out with a dog, hawk or rifle...
  15. As my post above then rayovac silver oxide off eBay was the cheapest I could find. Yes they are the correct ones. I know, I was just adding to your post to confirm what you said. I'll just stick to posting pictures of bollocks on EU Poley threads, people understand that
  16. Understood that, I was just pointing out that cheap isn't necessarily better. Stick with the Rayovac 394's and just eBay for the best price.
  17. They need to be the silver oxide ones, as these have a steadier discharge cycle (other batteries will give high initial output and then reduce, which means they won't power a transmitter). There's not much point chucking a ferret down under with a £65 collar round it's neck, only for the batteries to fail and you can't get it back if it falls off or the ferret lays up. A set of proper batteries will last 300 hours.
  18. Ha ha ha ha ha... Pull the other one.
  19. Yeah, she has some issues Don't want to give her to someone who's gonna punish her for it though Or fail to invest time handling her, then give up and offload to someone else?
  20. ,,,,,,,some can do it theirself tug,,but others im sure cant bring themselves to do it mate,,id personally not do it,,,,,not avin a pop at you and your advice is probably sound for those a bit harder to the world of ferrets,,,,but no doubt the other softer ones of us couldnt bring themselves to do it..me included I'm not "hard to the world of ferrets" fella, I cried like a bitch for about an hour when I knocked my own jill but it had to be done. Hardest thing to do, but the easiest decision to make. She'd chewed a hole in a rabbit pelt and then wriggled into it, spent the whole night stuc
  21. Hold ferret around chest in left hand with head towards your right side, hammer in right hand (hold the hammer head). Bring hammer stale down in one swift movement on top of head and follow through. If your ferret is suffering then there's no issue with doing it yourself.
  22. They look no different to my FERRETS. They will be thicker set because ferrets are different shapes and sizes, plus kits will be carrying extra fat. I sincerely hope you didn't pay for them.

    Kevlar

It's possibly the stuff that gloves and gauntlets for body shop and glazing workers are made out of.
