  1. Hi all Over the last few months i've been accumulating all the equipment that the average pigeon shooter / decoyer would need , because i've recently joined a local shooting syndicate that shoots our feathered friends for crop protection. The last piece of equipment i needed was a rotary machine and i bought this last Wednesday. To cut a long story short , i have been out a few times this week and was really keen to try out all my new gadgets , flapper , decoys , rotary bouncers etc. Although there seemed to be quite a few birds flying around ( About 6.00am ) they just didn't see
  2. Hi 19powell90 If i was in your shoes i would save up a little and stretch your budget a bit. Although i have never owned a Hatsan Escort one of my friends did , but after a few months he had a lot of trouble with it , and it seems that numerous other people have too. A few months ago i too was after a cheap auto loader ( my first ) but i saved up a bit more cash and bought a brand new Winchester SX3 12g and boy am i glad i did. It feeds everything that i put through it and the recoil is almost nill. There are many different models of the SX3 available , but i opted for the composite
  3. Hi all As a newbie to pigeon shooting , over the last few months i've been accumulating all the necessities. The only thing i really need now is a pigeon rotary machine. I was just wondering if any of you guys could recommend a good reliable make , that wont fall to bits or break the bank. John
  4. Funny how you posted this today , as last week i ordered one direct from sue & si , and it arrived this morning. I opted for the pigeon target , and it looks like a solid piece of kit , John
  5. Unless the farm is completely isolated with nothing else around , within a radius of about 2 miles , Your best option in my opinion would be to use an Air Rifle. The .22lr bullet can travel for a distance of over a mile if shot up in the air , and if the target was missed , who knows where the bullet would end up. Another problem with the .22lr is they tend to ricochet a lot , and can be dangerous Why not put a dead rabbit in a trap , and you never know , you may even catch a few crows as well. John
  6. Hi all As the posting title asks , i was just wondering if the barrel of a 12ft11b air rifle need to be regularly cleaned to maintain accuracy. Let me explain a bit. Basically , for many years i used air rifles for hunting and i never cleaned a single barrel ( yes , not once ) Over the years i have bought and sold numerous springers , pcp's and all different makes. All my rifles seemed to stay pretty accurate and accounted for many of our coney and fluffy tailed friends , right up till when i sold them. About 10 years ago i applied for my Rimfire & shotgun certificates and so
  7. what carts were you using to drop old charlie , and what was the distance ? I'm still waiting to get my first fox with a shotgun
  8. Thanks for the link elvolcan This is just what i'm looking for John
  9. Hi all I'm looking for a knockdown target that won't break the bank , that is strong enough to stop a .22 rimfire bullet. A friend told me to buy a ' Plinker Reset Target ' as they are quite cheap , but i cant seem to find a uk supplier , only ones based in the States , Regards , John http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/the-plinker-22-auto-reset-target.aspx?a=27910
  10. About 4 years ago when i bought my CZ Varmint .22 , i bought a cheapish scope that i had never heard of , a Walther 4 - 12 - x 50 ir Basically , i think it was one of the best buys i have ever made. It even came with a set of mounts included in the price. i have used the ir settings a few times and have bagged a few bunnies just as the light started to fade. At the end of the day , whatever you buy you are taking a chance , and for the money i think that this is a bargain , John http://www.uttings.co.uk/Product/543/103401/walther-4-12x50-ao-ir-rifle-scope/
  11. Spot on advice from ANTHONYCHEZ Buy what i did , an SX3 Composite 3.5'' Truly a great wildfowling gun , steel proofed , and a lot cheaper new than a Benelli or Beretta , John
  12. Welcome to THL buster1 I'm afraid that i'm too far away as well , but you never know your luck John
  13. In this day and age , Who can afford to pay that kind of money per animal , Are these people millionaires or Billionaires I have been out to people that have been quoted £400 for a night regardless of success. Bear in mind that these are urban foxes for the most part, all townies are rich Keep up the good work firepower and get those charlies , you don't want to loose that job
  14. Nice idea but no FU#KING USE in the real world. If however you can only see 20 feet over the weeds forget it, bipods are for Rifle Ranges, Deserts and Sniper Movies.(Read EVERYWHERE except Bipod city). Get a Shooting Stix type 'stand up' rest because its the only rest worth a light in a practicle sense! AndyF This is good advice in my opinion. Recently , i too was thinking of fitting a bipod to my Cz Varmint , as a friend gave me a cheapo one a few years ago and it was never used. However , like andyf stated , it was pretty much useless , because the land on my permission is all over

  16. That's an understatement mate , you could buy a decent shotgun for that kind of money
  17. Hi all As the posting title asks , are CCI Claybuster , 28g 71/2 12g carts any good for our feathered friend the wood pigeon. A friend of mine shoots a lot of clays and reckons that these carts are fine for woodies as well. As i only ever use 32 no 6's for woodies , i thought i'd ask your opinions , as 28g seems a bit light to me , Regards , John
  18. I was recently thinking along those lines myself A couple of weeks ago i had a quick look in the fox shooting gallery for the first time and i couldn't believe one of the photo's i saw. A fox had been killed and it's unborn babies were laying by the mothers side. To say that i felt sick is an understatement. Come on guys , we all kill things from time to time , but is it really necessary to pull out unborn embryo's and then post pictures. And before anybody asks , yes , i have posted pics of recent kills before , but i havn't ripped open the animal and posted images such as the ones
  19. Hi all As a newbie to semi auto's , i was just wondering if you guys release the hammer before storing the gun , or do you leave it cocked. On my o/u i use snap caps , but with my SX3 i dont know what to do. A friend at work suggested that i put a spent cart in the barrel and use that to release the hammer , but i'm not so sure as i think i read somewhere that its better not to use this method , Regards , John
