I dont think people breed ferrets to make money as if you do it properly the kits eat you out of house & home and its always nice if homes are found before they are mated, but i know from experience that by late june the rescues start to fill up with unwanted kits . no amount of education will stop some people from breeding ferrets even if they arent in a possision to offer them a correct diet & housing, then when the kits start to bite they dont bother at all & then either kill them or dump them. i think generally ferrets have a very low monetery value if you like ,

I was told today James McKay of Derbyshire is a horse whisperer , he was apparently on watchdog in the week, is it the same bloke who lets kids have kits at his roadshows & puts them in manure bags when the kids didnt have a box, that was summat i saw myself not passed on info

They are fed complete ferret food & either minced beef (not pet mince) or minced tripe & chicken as a change , the dry is just in the cage 24/7 they seem to have gone off chicken wings so i stopped putting them in for them kept finding them in there beds untouched. They are very active & have a run attached to there cage but do come indoors for about an hour in the evenings for a play in the kitchen & they never stop once i get there tube & cardboard box to play in , i have had to block every tiny gap off as the buggers get under the cooker & i had a game getting

To be honest the rescue i support tell me 90% of ferrets handed in are from pet homes & kiddies pets they have had over a hundred kits in this yr alone as well as adults I think its right about not breeding every breedable jill every yr, infact why breed any of your jills if you dont need new stock, there are a few ways of keeping them healthy . Its such a refreshing change to read such comments like i read on here & i will say you working lads put a lot of the show fraternity to shame on your ferret housing & general common sence approach to keeping ferrets I have

That nouvan top gear was good stuff in it's day but the vet's round this way stopped selling it a while back.. Millet I used nuvan top but it is no longer made for some reason, i now use frontline

These two were born on May 1st & have gone huge since the weather went colder they get nothing other than there daily food , no crappy treats

I tipped a hutch cause i couldnt get rid of the ticks, i even left the hutch empty for well over 6 months & the first ferret i put in it was covered in ticks within a week

Well for some strange reason cause i keep ferrets people knock my door with birds , cats , dogs , and anything else they find, i have spent many a night sat up syringe feeding kittens or baby birds , i dont advertise the fact i am a ferret owner

I have always been under the impression breeding silver x silver produces a lethal gene , or thats how i understand it, the few silver ferret i have had prooved to be a pain behaviour wise & i also suspected the 2 jills i had were deaf

I clip mine as well if i have no ferretone i put a tiny bit of olive oil on there tummys & as they devour it i clip away , i did there nails this afternoon & it took 2 mins no fuss & struggle

My two have really nice soft coats, but have yet to get the thick fluffy wintercoat yet
