a trammel net is the same as a long net but it has a 9inch mesh net on both sides aswell. when a rabbit enters the net it takes the 4.25 mesh net through a large mesh and forms a small pouch, much like a purse net. Interesting, anyone got any pictures? sounds like it would be a right sod to set up but in theory effective.

no, the bloke im on about rents his kennels but i think he rents them off of some other racing kennels next door. Im not really sure. just wondered becuase i used to work at his kennels on a saturday, small world, lol

my S410 is fitted with a harris 6-9 inch tilt bipod, does the job for me on rabbits. although i wish i had got the next size up (9-13 inch, i think) becuase somtimes the one ive got doesnt quite clear all the tussocks of grass. to fit one you need to have a quick detatch sling swivel stud screwed into the forend of the stock, then the bipod is simply attached to that by a small clamping device (best i can describe it). its all really simple, just get your local gun shop to fit the stud for ya if you dont feel confident enough to do it your self, then just put on or take off the bipod depen

i think im right in saying that a tumbler is an old type of running dog that just used to use its force of impact to nock the quarry down, whereas obviously the lurcher strikes at its quarry. The tumbler was less popular due to its high chance of injuring intself during the collision with its quarry. well thats what i understand anyway born hunter,what sort of size are they? havnt the slightest, what i told ya is just what i read. I think im right in saying that they are pretty much the same as lurchers just they have a wider chest with more elasticated pectoral (spelling)

very good advice, its exactly what i did for a couple of years (my family had dogs with this trainer so it was pretty easy gettin sum part time voluntary work). Yeh theres the shit shuvling and the god awful stench of urine but i found it a real honour to get to know each dogs personality and just admire them for the amazing breed that they are (i am a big lover of the greyhound). Often as well each trainer has little tricks of the trade, medical knowledge and feeding and health tips. If running dogs is your passion then you could do alot worse than work at a kennels voluntarily.

DS, you ever thought of writing a autobiography. I can imagine it would be very interesting reading about your escapades and day to day ventures, such as the mink trapping you have a nack of keeping the reader waiting in anticipation

i understand that, just wasnt sure if people prefered to keep then entire and bring them out of season using a vesectomised hob if it affected thier working ability being neutered. thanks anyway, sound advice

im going to be gettin ferrets and have decided on 2 jills, i have no intension of breeding from them no matter even if they turn out to be great workers so have thought about getting them neutered. would neutering them affect their working ability in any way? from what i understand it wont and is the best thing to do in my circumstances but i like to run any doubts past you lot first. thanks

im havin a crack at makin my first purse net, had a few practice runs and now im makin a proper one. ive run out of hemp on the needle and im only just over half way throught the net! how do i start the newly loaded needle off half way through? do i just tie it on or is there a certain way of doing it?

i dont know about dangerous dogs act, i think we need a dangerous owners act. certain breeds are more likely to be agressive and capable of seriously injuring/killing people but brought up correctly and by a experinced and competant owner there would be no trouble. we (humans) made these amazing breeds and you have just gotta admire their bravery, courage and loyalty and now suposed experts are condeming them, i think thats pretty fuking disrespectful to them. jmho

i know the feeling, lol havnt had a proper days shooting in over 4 months, been ferreting once and lamping once with aload of super lamp shy bunnies all i have been able to do is get out in the country side with the binos and on my bike and i go beating every fortnight which i love becuase its pretty much all ive got at the moment. been thinking of other things that i can do that are as close to hunting/shooting as possible, ive been out looking for decent sticks to cut for beating and general mooching next year and also gonna try my hand at net making. i keep tellin myself its n

Well the only other one that was really competing with it was European Communities with just less than 30%, all the others had less than 7% of the votes So i would say that with just over 50% of the votes, the Hunting Act had the a very good majority of votes. JMO But, i agree completely about its gonna take a hell of a lot more to get the act repealed.

It probably wont make any difference, but it good to see that a vast majority are supporting us in our fight.

Thanks for all of your advice, much apreciated I think im going to get a spool of hemp to start with and then move onto spun nylon when i have got a bit more experience and confidence in my net making ability. Thanks

I want to have a crack at making some purse nets and maybe eventually a long net. My question is what strength spun nylon do most of you use? I have just got a ferreting dvd for xmas by Simon Whitehead and he was using 12z purse nets as they dont pick up as many twigs. So what do i get, 4z, 6z, 8z or 12z, and how many purse nets would i get from a 500g role of each strength spun nylon? Just dont want to spend my money without being sure ive made the right choice!

thats what i wanted it for, just dont know which models are any good, i know some give very large dots at 30 yards so would be hard to precisely estimate the range. Ive found one that looks pretty decent for what i want, SMK LS-III Hi Power Laser, £50
